Ask about any page, right beside it

The LunaNotes side panel opens next to whatever you're reading in Chrome. Ask about the page, write notes on it, turn it into flashcards and review them, all without leaving the tab.

Free to start · used by 44K+ note-takers

Open it on any page with AltShiftS. On YouTube, the YouTube sidebar takes over.

Five sections, one page

Everything in the panel is about the page in the tab you're on, with your library a click away. Pick a section on the rail; the page stays where it is.

Keep the page, or make something from it

The page in the tab you're on, and whether it's already in your library. One click saves it. One more turns it into notes, a flashcard deck or a diagram.

  • It keeps working if you close the panel, and opens the result in a new tab
  • What you already made opens instead, so a page is never paid for twice
  • A deck made here goes straight into your reviews

It reads the page you see, and only when you ask

To answer, Ask needs the page's text. It takes the route that gets what's on your screen, and asks for permission only when nothing else works.

  1. 1

When LunaNotes may read the tab

It uses the text you are looking at

That's after you click LunaNotes on that tab, or on a site you allowed. Pages behind a login work, because the text comes from your browser.

  2. 2

    Otherwise

    Its servers open the address

Public articles, papers and PDFs read fine this way. Nothing in your browser is touched.

  3. 3

    If neither can read it

It asks for that one site

The panel shows “Allow reading this site”. Chrome asks you to confirm, for that site only. Never every site.

What it never reads

Pages you only visit
Opening a page sends nothing anywhere. Whether it's already saved is checked on your device.
Anything but the visible text
Not the HTML, not what you type into forms. Chrome's PDF viewer is never read from the tab; PDFs are read on the server.
A lasting copy
Text sent for Ask expires after an hour. It is never saved as a bookmark, a copy of the page or a search index entry.

Open it before you have an account

Signed out, the panel isn't a sign-in screen. It's the real thing, and it asks for an account only at the moment one matters.

  1. 01

    Every section is there

Look around before you decide. Notes and Review show examples of what you'd keep.

  2. 02

It says what the account is for

The first thing that needs one asks by name: to ask about this page, save it, make flashcards, or search your library.

  3. 03

    Then it finishes the job

The panel stays open while you sign up in a new tab. Once you're in, what you clicked goes through.

The panel is free. The AI uses credits.

Keeping a page and studying it costs nothing. Credits go on what the AI reads and writes for you, and the panel shows the cost before you click.

Running low? The panel says so before you run out, and a bigger plan or a credit pack tops you up. See the plans

Free, on every plan

  • Open the panel on any page
  • Save the page to your library
  • Write and edit notes
  • Search your library
  • Review your flashcards

Uses credits

  • Ask about the page

    ≈45–90 credits a question

Charged by what the AI actually read and wrote, on every plan. Long pages sit at the top of the range.

  • Notes, flashcards or a diagram from the page

    ≈15–45 credits each

By page length. Decks and diagrams also count towards your plan's monthly number: 5 of each on Free, 20 on Starter, no limit on Plus.

Free includes 2,000 credits a month, Starter 30,000 and Plus 120,000.

Open it from any page

Three ways in, whichever your hands are closest to. The toolbar icon still opens the Popup for saving and filing.

  • From the keyboard

Press Alt Shift S on any page (Option on a Mac). Change the keys in Chrome's extension shortcuts if they clash.

  • From the right-click menu

Right-click anywhere on the page. The same menu makes notes or flashcards from it, or from a link.

  • From the toolbar

Signed in, click the LunaNotes icon, then the side panel button at the foot of the Popup's rail. The Popup closes and the panel opens beside the page.

It follows your tab
The panel is for the window, not one tab. Switch tabs, or follow a link, and it's about the new page.
YouTube has its own sidebar
On a video, the panel hands you to the YouTube sidebar, with timestamped notes and the transcript beside the player.
