A folder holds a note once. Tags hold it everywhere it belongs.

A note on the Calvin cycle is biology, it is on the second exam, and you still need to review it. Put it in a folder and you pick one of those. Tag it and it is in all three.

On the Notes page, open Filters and choose tags. More than one tag widens the list: a note shows up if it has any of them.

  • To narrow it instead, add a search, favourites, or where the note came from: YouTube, the web or a video tool.
  • The filter lives in the address, so a bookmarked link opens the same filtered list.
  • Or start from the tag: click it in the Tags list to see every note that carries it.

Fix a tag in one place, and every note follows

The Tags list shows each tag's colour, description and how many notes carry it. It is where a set of tags stays small and worth filtering by.

    Sort by what you actually use

    Most used comes first. Switch to least used to find the tags you made once and forgot, or sort by name.

    Edit once, change everywhere

    Rename a tag, give it another of the twelve colours or a description, and every note that carries it shows the change.

    Deleting a tag never deletes a note

    The tag comes off every note that had it, after a warning that says how many. The notes stay as they were.

    Capitals never make a second tag

    Biology and biology are the same tag: a workspace cannot hold both. If older duplicates linger, ask the Assistant to find them and merge them, with your approval.
