Welcome to iHeart Radio Live featuring
Cortis celebrating their first EP, Color
Outside the Lines from the IHeart Radio
Theater. Here's your host, Jojo Wright.
[cheering]
>> Thank you and welcome. Are you ready for
this, YOU GUYS?
>> [cheering]
>> IHEART RADIO IS EXCITED to present the
first boy band in six years from the
folks that brought you global
phenomenons BTS [cheering] and TXT.
>> YEAH, THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT.
THEY'VE JUST RELEASED THEIR first EP,
Color Outside the Lines. That EP began
with a single question, what you want?
Over [cheering]
two years, the members wrote more than
300
songs, challenging themselves
relentlessly in search of the answers.
And from this introspective journey,
they carefully selected five tracks that
best express who they are. I can't wait
to bring them out to you guys.
Presenting Martin, James, June, Seyan,
and Ganel. THIS IS CORDIS. COME ON OUT.
>> [screaming]
[cheering]
[screaming]
[cheering]
[cheering]
[cheering]
>> CURTIS,
WHAT'S UP Y'ALL? MAKE SOME NOISE.
>> [screaming]
>> YEAH.
>> Why don't you give us the official
introduction and individual intros as
well?
>> Okay.
>> Okay.
>> One, two, three. Hi, we're recording.
ONE, TWO, THREE. HI, WE'RE CORDIS.
[cheering]
>> YES. And I'm the leader of the group,
Martin. It's truly a blessing to be
here. [cheering]
>> Hi, my name is Gono. Pleasure to be
here. [screaming]
>> Hi, I'm Yeah, happy to be here.
>> [screaming]
>> Hi, I'm June. Nice to meet you.
[cheering]
>> Hi, I'm James. [screaming]
Honored to be here. ALL RIGHT, FELLAS.
TAKE A SEAT. TAKE A SEAT. CURTIS IS
HERE.
>> THANK YOU.
>> All right. You guys ready for Have you
ever been this close to Cortis? I don't
think so. Right.
>> All right. First of all, I think she's a
fan. I think [laughter] I think she's a
fan. Uh, guys, welcome to iHeart Radio.
Yeah,
>> huge congrats. Massive debut. It's been
a long journey from all that
introspection. Now, 300 songs and only
five songs made the cut.
>> What's uh you What stood out with those
five songs? Why did they make the cut? I
think uh these five songs are what
explains us and um these five songs
really represent us in a very authentic
way. It's stripped down. It's very
simple, but at the same time,
>> it's very honest. And
>> so that's our focus in this album is
just authenticity, rawness, and um how
we share our story.
>> Yeah. Yeah. I mean, [cheering] yes, sir.
I feel like it's a um true reflection of
like who we are at the at the moment and
like 2024 summer like when we were in LA
and so um working on the album, I feel
like our lifestyle is really just in the
album and it's like a diary. It's like a
journal. We really just like treated it
like that.
>> So, it begs the question, what happened
to the other 295? [laughter] Are we
going to hear any of those uh songs?
>> Archive. Archive.
>> Archive. Archive.
>> Maybe later.
>> We never know.
>> For the future.
>> Yeah. You never know. But hey, um
authenticity is uh important to you
guys. What makes these songs so
authentic? That's the key for any artist
really. Certainly for you guys.
I think we take inspiration from our
daily lives.
>> Yeah.
>> Yes. And so um from little things of
just us fooling around and playing
around and making jokes and I think that
makes it more like fun and
>> nice way. For example, like the song
fashion like we
>> fashion show.
>> So the day we made fashion, we actually
went to Fairfax in LA and we
>> [cheering]
>> Yeah. And we bought some clothes there
and like the in the session producer
said like you guys are kind of drepped
up today and
>> you guys look different.
>> Yeah. We had to say about this fashion.
>> Yeah. We had to talk about it.
>> Are you guys constantly like 24/7
writing?
I mean
>> I mean yeah we are writing songs but um
not just writing um we take videos take
photos and like make beats make
choreography
>> and everything you know like
>> we we just love to do art.
>> Yeah. You know
>> and we're always always in the studio
24/7. So like um not 24/7 but like every
day we are in the studio working on
something and or trying to cultivate our
skills and I feel like we really um like
to note stuff down like just for just in
case you know you don't know when you'll
have like a great idea and then you'll
just like you know take it out of your
pocket and just like you know make it
into a music video or like something.
>> It's crazy.
If I if I have an idea and if I don't
write it down, I think I'll remember it,
but I won't.
>> Yeah,
>> you just got to
>> write. Yes, definitely. That's why
>> right up here.
>> Yeah. Right. Hey, you guys have been
called and we talked about this earlier.
You've been called a young creator crew
as opposed to a traditional group. And I
get the impression you don't like that
name.
>> No, we do.
>> We love it. We love it. It's young
creator crew.
>> We are young and
we are crew.
>> Yeah. I mean, I mean, it's kind of
fancy.
>> Yeah. Literally,
>> it's a cool way to cool way to call us.
It's like, you know, it's Cordis aka
YCC. So, it's like, [laughter]
>> you know,
>> so I feel like um Young Creator Crew is
just uh actually it's a kind of a title.
Should I say, how do I say Sushi?
>> Kind of a label.
>> Yeah, it's a label that our label um
>> Oh, [laughter] okay. Started to call us.
>> Need a chart and a graph. label. That's
your label. Got it. Yep.
>> And um you know just the way how we work
you and um I mean I grew up listening to
a lot of ASAP Mob, Odd Future, Brock
Hampton. [cheering]
Um those crews really um yeah influenced
me a lot to um you know just be creative
and just you know have fun doing what I
do like music videos like music, art,
like everything. So, I feel like that
kind of became a culture in us and
that's how our company, our label calls
us, you know, Young Creative Crew.
>> And you guys have, and I'm sure you guys
have all noticed this, elements of like
1960s psychedelic rock, you know,
>> genre bending experimental soul in the
EP. You talked about some of your
influences. Let's get every what what
are, you know, give me some more of your
influences.
>> I grew up listening to a lot of Tamea.
[screaming]
>> Yes.
My dad My dad used to play me a lot of
tame and poll and a lot of other rock
music too.
>> Yes.
>> Me I think
>> mine is future.
>> Great artist.
>> Yeah.
>> Anybody else?
>> You go first.
>> I go first. Yeah. Yeah. [laughter]
>> Um for me I think
um mostly inspired by like our daily
lives. Oh yeah,
>> definitely
>> like
>> in our EP color outside the lines all
five songs like talking about our
lifestyle.
>> Yeah. Like going to the studio like we
like a lot of different things.
>> Yeah.
>> The like it's very broad. So
>> it's everywhere.
>> When we create something, it's basically
a melting pot of all our influences.
>> It's a solid
>> put together.
>> And when you come together, you came
together under the name Cortis.
>> Yes.
>> Yeah, man. Uh what what's the backstory
on Cortis?
>> Um
>> where the name comes from.
>> So there's a phrase called color outside
the lines. I bet y'all know it because
it's our first EP's title.
>> Um it means to do things in
unconventional ways and like you know
break the mold and think outside the box
like do like just have fun in like in
general. Um and I feel like that phrase
best represented us. And um we took six
random alphabets from the phrase and you
know put it together as Cortis and
that's how the name came out.
>> And there it is. [cheering]
>> Although you guys all knew that, right?
>> Your fans know you they probably know it
before you did.
>> Yeah. [laughter]
>> So yeah. Hey, describe the the sound and
the vibe of the EP Color Outside the
Lines. How can you put that to words?
So I think this album had I mean this
album has five has five songs and they
all sounds very different you know like
and I think that really like shows like
five different aspects of who we are
when we are making this album and you
know like I think I can see a day when
we hear this album you know
>> actually somebody explaining
>> oh yeah um so go is like the time when
you get ready you know like you're
getting ready or
>> going somewhere.
>> Get out from the bed, dressing up, um
getting washed up, everything is go. And
fashion is like, you know, the traffic.
[laughter]
>> The car
chaos.
>> It's chaos.
>> And what you want is like um how should
we put it? Like
>> what you want is traffic, too.
>> What [snorts] you want is like
[laughter] traffic, too.
>> We have a lot of traffic. But me, I felt
like it was like more like when you go
to school, your home room teacher gets
mad at you or like
>> what you want
>> when Yeah. like
>> or like um let's say you're a coworker
and you're like boss gets mad at you
like it's you you you want to crash
smash everything like you know.
>> So that's the that's the vibe and joy
ride is like on the way back home.
>> Sunset
>> sunset and like lullabi is like going to
bed.
>> Lullabi is a
>> it's a day captures a day.
>> That's like a full day. I'm exhausted.
Let's go to bed. Yeah. Um, hey, Big Hit
apparently knows what they're doing with
guy groups,
>> BTS,
TXT,
[cheering]
>> and now Cordis.
[screaming]
>> Thank you. Thank you. What have you
taken from your conversations with BTS
and TXT?
>> Um, so we had a very lucky chance to
meet both groups. Um, uh, they're
they're amazing some names, first of
all. Um I feel like uh so when we met
BTSim uh J Hope actually told us to like
you know stay humble and never take
things for granted and like you know
just enjoy the journey at the same time
and he he like really cheered us up a
lot and yeah he's he's he's a great
person man.
>> Any other any other cool stories you can
share with those with those two guys or
two groups I should say?
Um
>> yeah actually
>> you want to talk about shown a lot of
support first
>> and like compliments.
>> I saw their like singing our songs like
in their like
everywhere like
>> they they always be like Martin
>> play.
>> Shout out to Dan.
>> Yeah. They're they're so cool. They're
they're amazing people.
>> Did you guys expect the uh Go
choreography to explode like it did?
Because there was a time and I'm
thinking a time as in today where
everything on my feed is just somebody
doing the go choreo. Did you expect it
to blow up like it did? It was crazy.
>> Oh man. Actually, Go was choreographed
here in LA.
>> Yeah.
>> And u [cheering]
we we choreographed it in about like
four days. And um altogether I think
it's very intentional. I think we have a
kind of goal to kind of make it very
catchy and make it kind of cut through
the algorithm. And so go is definitely
um a coro that we are very proud of.
>> Yeah, we knew it. I mean, when we first
heard the song go, we kind of felt like,
you know, when we got to the studio to
like choreograph choreo, I mean,
choreograph the song, it was like, yo, I
think the song is just so catchy. We got
to make the coro catchy, too. Like, we
got to kind of target
the the viral, you know, [laughter]
>> the audience. And
>> so like we needed something that could
like like
>> people can follow and people have fun
with
>> have fun with and eye-catching like so
we went like boom boom boom boom boom
and then like James went like that and
it was like okay so let's start from
that and then it went like blah blah
blah blah blah and then like this came
out.
>> You say you say easy like anybody can do
that. I mean I've tried it just ain't
happening. [laughter]
>> But it's so much fun though. It's so
it's amazing. I mean, I'm just so I'm so
impressed with how you guys have blown
up so quick and just I don't know. I'm
kind of in awe right now. Congrats on
everything so far. It's just the
beginning, but so yeah, huge congrats.
[cheering]
>> Thank you so much. Thank you so much.
>> All right, we ask uh iHeart Radio fans
across the the country to submit their
talkbacks with their questions. We got a
couple lined up. Uh play us the audio
for number one here. Hey guys, it's Al
from New York and my question to you is,
what's a moment in the past two months
that made you feel the proudest of
yourselves? Oh, and by the way, Crazy
Fashion Sense,
>> thank you so much for [laughter]
great compliment. Um Um,
mostly what are we inspired mostly in
life? I feel like it's our daily life
first of all and
>> the proudest moment we had
>> is
>> Yeah. the the release like party.
>> Oh, we got to talk about that.
>> It's the release party. Like I feel like
we all will be sharing the same answer,
but the proudest moment will be the
release party because like it was
>> it's a moment that we can't forget.
>> It's an event that is like a first big
event with only us.
>> Yeah.
>> And um
>> we had fun.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. It was so much fun.
>> Enjoyed it. I think one of other
proudest moment is I heard radio I
guess.
>> Oh yeah, it's definitely a big
milestone.
>> Making it to LA.
>> I've been always dreaming about this.
>> Yeah, this is this is crazy.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> Well, thank you. Thank you guys for
being here. I mean, seriously.
>> Let's do another talk back from the
iHeart Radio app. This is uh question
number two, I believe.
>> Okay.
>> Hello. My name is Kayla. I'm from
Dallas, Texas. And my question to Cortis
is, who's your guys's biggest
inspiration? Whether it be in music or
fashion or life in general, who do you
guys look up to and follow?
>> I know he he has a very big inspiration
for his fashion style.
>> Oh, yeah.
>> He's a heady boy.
>> Slaying skinny jeans. Skinny jeans.
>> It's sick.
>> Yeah, I like that. I like that.
>> Thank you. I'm a I'm a big fan of uh the
Balain designer, the previous Balman
designer, uh Christopher Decarin, if I
pronounced it right. Kristoff Darinet,
maybe. Yeah, he's amazing, man. His his
pro his his projects, his um looks, his
fits, everything you make is amazing,
man. I'm a big fan of him.
>> Mine is Vivian Westwood.
She has this style and like this vibe
with her is awesome.
>> It's just beautiful. I love the punk
style also. So
>> yeah,
>> for me in music wise um I think it could
be Radio Head. [screaming]
>> Yeah. [cheering]
>> Do you guys like Radio Head?
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. They're my favorite rock band. And
also who else? Um, the Smashing Pumpkins
also [cheering]
Nirvana.
>> Yeah. Great. Great band music.
>> He put me on to Radio Head. So,
>> it's nice. It's nice. Nice.
>> Uh, for me and fashion wise, our
stylist.
>> A big shout out.
>> Yeah. Shout out to our stylist, man. His
looks are crazy.
>> Yeah,
>> he's more stylish than us. I mean I mean
one thing that I really want to talk
about is like when we shop on uh Fruits
there's there's an app called Fruits
Family in Korea that we uh do online
shopping but it's like all vintage
>> and um sometimes I like how I I have
like some items on my wish list and then
it gets sold and then when I come to
like the fitting
>> like I see those items like
>> and I ask my stylist did you buy them
and like yeah
>> yeah it's crazy. I think we have one
more talk back if we could uh roll.
Talkback number three.
>> Hey guys, my name is Kayla and I'm from
Atlanta, Georgia. My question is since
your name stands for color outside the
line, what is a moment that you had
where you guys felt like you were truly
breaking free from the normal. I love
you guys so much. We're so proud of you
and we're looking forward to everything
that you have in store.
>> Thank you so much.
>> Thank you.
>> Thank you. We love you too. Um,
>> he color outside the lines while he
eats. Like he can't eat [laughter] in a
plate.
>> Dirty. No, man.
[laughter]
>> You think I'm like a 5-year-old kid?
>> No. No. I I I I color inside the lines
when it when it comes to eating.
>> Comes to eating, it gets it gets a
little serious.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah.
>> But like Yeah. I think for me recently
since I've been like working on the
second album, it's like um
>> Wait, whoa, hold up. What? What?
>> It's not coming soon. So like, please
chill.
>> Um but like since we've been working on
the second album and like a lot of songs
and we've been in the studio every
night. Um I think we're trying hard to
like you know kind of very Yeah.
experiment like different kind of genres
and mix up and at times like just um you
know try different kind of uh vocal
tones and um you know just flows and
everything melodies like that is
something that is unconventional you
know unusual
>> what do you say [cheering]

They're they're so cool. They're they're amazing people. >> Did you guys expect the uh Go choreography to explode like it did? Because there was a time and I'm thinking a time as in today where everything on my feed is just somebody doing the go choreo. Did you expect it to blow up like it did? It was crazy. >> Oh man. Actually, Go was choreographed here in LA. >> Yeah. >> And u [cheering] we we choreographed it in about like four days. And um altogether I think it's very intentional. I think we have a kind of goal to kind of make it very catchy and make it kind of cut through the algorithm. And so go is definitely um a coro that we are very proud of. >> Yeah, we knew it. I mean, when we first heard the song go, we kind of felt like, you know, when we got to the studio to like choreograph choreo, I mean, choreograph the song, it was like, yo, I think the song is just so catchy. We got to make the coro catchy, too. Like, we got to kind of target the the viral, you know, [laughter] >> the audience. And >> so like we needed something that could like like >> people can follow and people have fun with >> have fun with and eye-catching like so we went like boom boom boom boom boom and then like James went like that and it was like okay so let's start from that and then it went like blah blah blah blah blah and then like this came out. >> You say you say easy like anybody can do that. I mean I've tried it just ain't happening. [laughter] >> But it's so much fun though. It's so it's amazing. I mean, I'm just so I'm so impressed with how you guys have blown up so quick and just I don't know. I'm kind of in awe right now. Congrats on everything so far. It's just the beginning, but so yeah, huge congrats. [cheering] >> Thank you so much. Thank you so much. >> All right, we ask uh iHeart Radio fans across the the country to submit their talkbacks with their questions. We got a couple lined up. Uh play us the audio for number one here. Hey guys, it's Al from New York and my question to you is, what's a moment in the past two months that made you feel the proudest of yourselves? Oh, and by the way, Crazy Fashion Sense, >> thank you so much for [laughter] great compliment. Um Um, mostly what are we inspired mostly in life? I feel like it's our daily life first of all and >> the proudest moment we had >> is >> Yeah. the the release like party. >> Oh, we got to talk about that. >> It's the release party. Like I feel like we all will be sharing the same answer, but the proudest moment will be the release party because like it was >> it's a moment that we can't forget. >> It's an event that is like a first big event with only us. >> Yeah. >> And um >> we had fun. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. It was so much fun. >> Enjoyed it. I think one of other proudest moment is I heard radio I guess. >> Oh yeah, it's definitely a big milestone. >> Making it to LA. >> I've been always dreaming about this. >> Yeah, this is this is crazy. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Well, thank you. Thank you guys for being here. I mean, seriously. >> Let's do another talk back from the iHeart Radio app. This is uh question number two, I believe. >> Okay. >> Hello. My name is Kayla. I'm from Dallas, Texas. And my question to Cortis is, who's your guys's biggest inspiration? Whether it be in music or fashion or life in general, who do you guys look up to and follow? >> I know he he has a very big inspiration for his fashion style. >> Oh, yeah. >> He's a heady boy. >> Slaying skinny jeans. Skinny jeans. >> It's sick. >> Yeah, I like that. I like that. >> Thank you. I'm a I'm a big fan of uh the Balain designer, the previous Balman designer, uh Christopher Decarin, if I pronounced it right. Kristoff Darinet, maybe. Yeah, he's amazing, man. His his pro his his projects, his um looks, his fits, everything you make is amazing, man. I'm a big fan of him. >> Mine is Vivian Westwood. She has this style and like this vibe with her is awesome. >> It's just beautiful. I love the punk style also. So >> yeah, >> for me in music wise um I think it could be Radio Head. [screaming] >> Yeah. [cheering] >> Do you guys like Radio Head? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. They're my favorite rock band. And also who else? Um, the Smashing Pumpkins also [cheering] Nirvana. >> Yeah. Great. Great band music. >> He put me on to Radio Head. So, >> it's nice. It's nice. Nice. >> Uh, for me and fashion wise, our stylist. >> A big shout out. >> Yeah. Shout out to our stylist, man. His looks are crazy. >> Yeah, >> he's more stylish than us. I mean I mean one thing that I really want to talk about is like when we shop on uh Fruits there's there's an app called Fruits Family in Korea that we uh do online shopping but it's like all vintage >> and um sometimes I like how I I have like some items on my wish list and then it gets sold and then when I come to like the fitting >> like I see those items like >> and I ask my stylist did you buy them and like yeah >> yeah it's crazy. I think we have one more talk back if we could uh roll. Talkback number three. >> Hey guys, my name is Kayla and I'm from Atlanta, Georgia. My question is since your name stands for color outside the line, what is a moment that you had where you guys felt like you were truly breaking free from the normal. I love you guys so much. We're so proud of you and we're looking forward to everything that you have in store. >> Thank you so much. >> Thank you. >> Thank you. We love you too. Um, >> he color outside the lines while he eats. Like he can't eat [laughter] in a plate. >> Dirty. No, man. [laughter] >> You think I'm like a 5-year-old kid? >> No. No. I I I I color inside the lines when it when it comes to eating. >> Comes to eating, it gets it gets a little serious. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> But like Yeah. I think for me recently since I've been like working on the second album, it's like um >> Wait, whoa, hold up. What? What? >> It's not coming soon. So like, please chill. >> Um but like since we've been working on the second album and like a lot of songs and we've been in the studio every night. Um I think we're trying hard to like you know kind of very Yeah. experiment like different kind of genres and mix up and at times like just um you know try different kind of uh vocal tones and um you know just flows and everything melodies like that is something that is unconventional you know unusual >> what do you say [cheering] >> this is ih radio live I'm Jojo Wright AND THAT IS CORDIS [screaming] Y [cheering] >> this has and iHeart Radio Live featuring Cortis celebrating their first EP, Color Outside the Lines. Thanks for joining us. [music]
