Introduction
Are you an aspiring streamer seeking the perfect webcam to elevate your online presence? Look no further than the Razer Kiyo. This innovative device is not just any webcam; it combines quality performance with a built-in ring light, making it a top contender for streamers who need reliable lighting on a budget. In this article, we’ll dive into the features, performance comparison, and unique offerings of the Razer Kiyo to help you assess if it’s the right choice for your setup.
Overview of the Razer Kiyo
The Razer Kiyo is designed with streamers in mind. It features a robust construction, compact size, and an easy-to-use clamping mechanism that allows it to fit securely on various surfaces. While it offers a maximum resolution of 720p, it can also stream at 1080p, providing flexibility for different streaming requirements.
Build Quality and Design
The Kiyo has a distinct round shape, differing from standard rectangular webcams. This unique design helps it stand out in the crowded market. Here are a few notable build features:
- Solid Construction: The webcam feels durable and well-built, ensuring it can withstand regular use.
- Clamping Mechanism: The webcam mounts securely on your monitor, providing stability during streaming or video calls.
- Ring Light: The integrated ring light is a game-changer for streamers, offering adjustable brightness to enhance your visual quality in various lighting conditions.
Performance Analysis
When it comes to webcam performance, we compared the Razer Kiyo to the Logitech C920, a classic staple among streaming enthusiasts. Let's break down the performance in terms of image quality, low-light performance, and usability.
Image Quality
The Kiyo delivers decent image quality for a webcam, though there are some nuances to consider:
- Resolution Options: Both the Razer Kiyo and Logitech C920 can operate at 720p or 1080p, offering comparable options for different streaming needs.
- Color Reproduction: The Kiyo tends to have a yellowish hue that may require some tweaking via software like OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) to achieve natural-looking skin tones.
- Detail Preservation: Observing finer details in close-ups, the Kiyo manages to capture more detail than the C920, especially in facial hair and expressions.
Low-Light Performance
One of the standout features of the Razer Kiyo is its low-light performance:
- Ring Light Utility: The integrated ring light greatly enhances visibility in dim conditions, making it easier to stream in less-than-ideal lighting. You can seamlessly adjust the brightness directly from the webcam, making it hassle-free to customize your setup without diving into software settings.
- Comparison in Low Light: The Kiyo outperforms the C920 when the lights go out. Even in near-complete darkness, the Kiyo maintains focus, showcasing the quality of its low-light capabilities. The C920, in contrast, struggles significantly in low-light environments.
Usability Features
The user-friendly design of the Kiyo includes:
- Brightness Control: The on-device dial allows you to adjust the ring light’s brightness without needing to adjust software settings, making it very convenient during live streams.
- Compatibility: The Kiyo is compatible with countless streaming applications, providing an easy setup process.
Lighting Setup Considerations
While the Kiyo excels with its integrated lighting, having a solid lighting setup can further enhance your streaming experience:
- Use of Tripods and Diffusers: Incorporating tripods for additional lighting sources or soft diffusers can help create a more professional look.
- Balancing Natural Light: For those who prefer natural lighting, positioning your setup near windows can complement the quality offered by the Kiyo.
Conclusion
The Razer Kiyo offers a compelling combination of quality, versatility, and user-friendly features that make it an ideal choice for newcomers to streaming. While the Logitech C920 remains a popular choice among streamers due to its longstanding quality and reliability, the Kiyo presents an attractive alternative with its built-in ring light and robust low-light performance.
Final Thoughts: If you're looking for a budget-friendly webcam that doesn't compromise too much on quality while providing excellent lighting options, the Razer Kiyo could very well meet your needs. It’s safe to say that the Kiyo gets a thumbs up for aspiring streamers wanting to enhance their streaming quality without breaking the bank. Scale your decisions based on your lighting needs, setup environment, and personal preferences as a streamer.

a while back razor release an interesting webcam that had a ring light built into it it is a razor keel kyl q
either one of those stay with me so this right here is the razor Q I'm gonna go ahead and call it Q might be
kind of doesn't sound right gonna kill so the razor kill is this one right here as you can see it's kind of a beefy
solidly built webcam this is the sort of melt that it has a sort of a clamping mechanism and I believe it is a 720p max
resolution but it should be a good 720p especially for streaming you'd have a little box and 1080p anything really to
high resolution there becomes a necessary so something like this would be perfect for a smaller scales setup
I'll go ahead and show you guys my lighting setup when I stream or shoot or do any of that stuff and you'll see that
the difference between this and another lighting setup and or no lighting other than regular room lighting could be kind
of a significant thing here's a closer look at the webcam and as you can see it's got a nice round style to it not
like a rectangle like most webcams and there's a closer look at the base kind of a nice set up a little clamp done and
got a little puck thing going on which i think is cool so yeah that's the cam close-up okay so here we are looking at
the lighting setup in my office so tripod right there where I shoot sitting right there but with my light
right there so the lights right on me there and it reflects throughout the room hopes that I have a mirror for the
closet door here so it helps balance the light around I have a ceiling light up there always on and as well as a ring
light over here in the corner shining right behind the c920 that I have right there so that provides some
I'm gonna be bouncing between the cameras here and so I have both cameras side by side on the top of my monitor I
try to get the color settings to match as best I could but admittedly I'm not much for like color correction or camera
stuff in general so I'm just trying to give you an average users view point as to how good these look
and to me both cameras look great personally I think the image quality of the c920 is a little bit better but but
they both deliberate in their own way it seems that the there's a little bit more detail Wow I guess if you look at my
stubble there's more detail and clarity in the razor then there isn't a c920 but the image of the c920 also has like a
good look to it so yeah the it's it it's a really good camera I mean going between the two the razor definitely has
its impressive features but the color reproduction in it I don't know if it's my monitor or something like that it
seems - it was just tough to try to get it to look what I felt was natural-looking it seems to have a
yellowish hue to it maybe with some more tuning through OBS which is what I'm using to show this right now in the
camera stuff all the sliders and such I had to mess with the gain a lot and the exposure try to get stuff to match up
there try to get as good of a comparison for you guys as I could they're both at 1280 by 720 right now so
720p FPS is set to just match output fps just a basic camera setup I know maybe earlier I mentioned that the razor is
c920 so they're both pretty competitive with each other from what it looks like here so now I'm going to do a comparison
with the ring light on the razor let me go ahead and get that fired up okay so here I am with the razor ring
light turned on on the key oh and it does pretty well now I had manually set the exposure and stuff like that if I
set it back to auto it'll probably go crazy but let me go ahead and do that for you guys I'll show you now the c920
is picking up pretty good but as you can see here at low-light performance it's just a little bit of light is better on
the razor given the settings that I put in it versus the c920 but let's switch both - to automatic and then see how
that goes so of the c920 down here there's this 9:20 configure video oh yeah the c920 so I'm gonna put that on
auto white balance in the auto game and you see it brightened up a whole lot just off of that so if you have that the
reason that it was looking the way it was before is because that's so much lightened room had to turn those things
down and right now since there's a lot less light in the room it has it's automatically gaining up so let's go
over to the eraser configure video go back over here to gain so you know I just have the basic stuff here so if I
go to exposure on automatic you see that one brighten up a whole lot to now that one is brightening brightening up a
whole lot and it's actually to the point where you'd want to turn it down a little bit
no fortunately about the razor kiddo is it comes with the ring around the light that lets you and actually turn the
brightness down a little bit so if this is too much without having to mess with the settings inside of OBS you can just
reach up to the ring and turn it down so I have it super low right now I turn it down to where it's almost nearly off as
you can see that's off and that's barely on and that's almost perfect right there and you can see the c920 struggling at
this point what this is nearly perfect now I'm gonna go ahead and turn the light to the room off and see how you
guys like that so this is just the regular room light off of the ceiling fan up top generally if you're in a room
you're gonna want to have the lightning on in the room not counting that for the room lighting but for the sake of
comparison there we go now if you're in a completely dark room that ring light where it is is pretty good even on the
low setting so it's actually its brightness is super good the c920 barely picking out my face here and now if we
want to go to 100% no light then let's go ahead and go here this is automatic performance here the c920 no longer can
even grab focus of me and the razor well it seems to be tuned for this because it's still perfectly focused on me base
off the glow right off of the screen so really happy with that kind of performance low-light performance on
this on this razor webcam is fantastic and it actually does pretty well just turning it back on check that out
check that out so let's see let's go full screen again see check that out guys on automatic settings here at 1280
by 720 I mean it is noisy but it's getting you so if you wanted to not have to disturb a lot of people or you're in
a more of a common area and they want the lights off and you want them on well here's your balance right here the ring
line off the razor q actually is pretty spectacular as a standalone unit like that so there you have it the comparison
between the c920 and the razor keel comes off like a pretty favorable for the keel if I must say so myself
especially if you don't have a really good room lighting setup it helps but also helpful that it works really well
in low light as it is and the ring light really helps it the dial on the top of it is also pretty helpful in terms of
being able to dial down the brightness or to dial it up depending on your settings so I thought that was really
cool it's a really cool idea and really cool product from Razer and I hope they keep coming up with stuff like this
because for your aspiring streamer it's a pretty useful tool pretty useful piece of little tech so-so
get the thumbs up for me and definitely if you're looking into streaming go for one of these if it's in your budget in
the c920 still a classic staple of streaming but it requires a little bit more if you want it to look really good
whereas you can get away with a bit less but with the Razer kyo so you can weigh your decision there because you know
one's gonna require a little bit more money to get everything set up right whereas the Razer kill is almost good as
an all-in-one webcam solution for streaming not quite there yet but just about so it's as close as you're gonna
get anyways I hope you guys enjoyed this video give a thumbs up if you liked it subscribe for more we always have more
Heads up!
