Our series begins with a soldier in the army heading to serve his posting on the border with North Korea. The sergeant with him is pleased when he learns our hero earned the title of best soldier in training and that his unit will finally have a decent soldier. Our hero then falls asleep and has a flashback to the days when he worked as a cashier and was struggling with difficult customers and a lack of money. But he decided to join the army because his circumstances were tough like many young men and he needed to build himself up and save money so he could one day get married. He snaps out of the memories and arrives at his base where he spots a black crow and keeps staring at it with curiosity. The sergeant calls him over and he enters the office where he meets a fellow soldier nicknamed the sparrow, well known for gossiping and never keeping his mouth shut. If he finds out anything about you, he will sell you out immediately. Our hero is handed a form to enter his information on the computer and we learn his father has passed away and he lives with his mother who runs a modest food truck that barely keeps them going. Something strange then happens to our hero and he hears an unknown voice welcoming him which startles him. So he snaps to attention and salutes. After finishing his registration, the sergeant looks at him suspiciously and thinks his details are fabricated and tells him your mother has a food truck, but you wrote it this way to seem respectable. Why not just say you have a small street food stall and leave it at that? And what is this anyway? Your father died 2 months ago and you are enlisting in the army. Your mental state must not be right. You're not going to be any use. Our hero tells him with respect, "Sir, I am completely fine and my mental state is stable and sound." But the sergeant does not believe him and treats him badly and tells him, "Go introduce yourself to your unit commander." The unit commander turns out to be a cute and beautiful girl named Song. And the moment our hero walks in and introduces himself, he starts seeing a card on the wall with his name and all his details on it as if he is logging into a game. He zones out and Commander Song finds this strange and asks the sparrow to take him and get him something to eat so he comes to his senses. Our hero reaches the kitchen and meets the chef who cares more about his health and muscles than cooking and operates by the principle of I cook what I want. Good or bad, you will eat it whether you like it or not. Anyone who objects will get a smack that knocks him out cold and gets sent to meet his maker and has his face rearranged. Our hero sits trying the food, but it is nearly impossible for any human being to eat it. The sparrow advises him not to react because that is what will get used against him. But Kang cannot help himself and when he gets up to drink water, the bully trips him and he falls flat on his face. He imagines himself floating in a bowl of soup. He snaps out of it and runs before the chef can hit him. He goes to meet the battalion commander who looks through his file and when he learns his mother is a chef, decides to assign him as a chef, too. Our hero panics and thinks to himself, "Great, the chef already cannot stand me, and if I go to him, he will string me up." But the commander stands firm in his position, even after the sergeant objects, and says, "Sir, this soldier is useless." And the commander tells him, "My word is final." A second message then appears to our hero, and he cannot understand how it reached him. It is written with his details from moments ago, and tells him, "You are the one who will change the world, and this is the beginning of your journey to become the legendary chef." Our hero wonders if he is dreaming and does not know what is happening. Whether this is a game or reality or a superpower and how will he change the world as a cook in the army. He organizes the store room exactly as the game instructs and afterward there is not a single mistake. The game rewards him and gives him extra points and his level goes up and the game unlocks a new recipe for him to learn. At the same time, the sergeant calls his colleague at the training center and says, "Could you not send us anyone but this disaster named Kang?" She tells him he was actually the best and sharpest one. You're just bitter and nothing ever pleases you. She yells at him and he hangs up in her face. Her fellow officer then enters and when he learns what she did, he tells her, "He is talking to you like that. We are going down to inspect that battalion." He enters the kitchen and finds it is not clean and makes a note for the chef who is on the verge of tears when he sees him entering the store room and tells Song the new soldier is inside and it looks like we are about to be in 60 kinds of trouble since the store room is not organized and we are about to get punished and lose our leave. But when he enters the store room, he is stunned by what our hero has done. And this is what makes the officer unable to punish them. He settles for cancing their leave because the kitchen was in bad shape. The chef is upset because this is his last scheduled leave and decides to endure it and cause no more problems so he can finish the remaining 100 days and then be free. The next morning, our hero wakes up early and is ready to prepare the new recipe the game gave him. But he finds the chef still torturing him and making him clean the floor while the chef cooks. As always, he overdoses the spice and salt and reduces the portions and does not care whether the soldiers can eat it or not. The soldiers return from training and are scared to eat. But the bully tries his luck again and feels like he is entering enemy territory. His enemy being the chef, and he fights with his food. He loses the battle after taking a bullet, which is a hot sausage. When someone tries to object, the chef yells at everyone, and the soldier eats while crying. This, of course, is not because the food is bad. No one dares say the food is bad or we will all be hung up. He leaves the place and walks out. At the same time, the commander and the officer are with their brigadier general who is a higher rank and each is talking about their work. The officer complains about the battalion kitchen and that the commander is not doing his job. The commander opens up and tells him we have the best food and the best drink. The general tells him simple enough. Come, let us go to the battalion and try it. The commander says not right now. I was joking. Wait, let me explain. Let me just explain. He lets him go and the general heads off to try the best food and best drink. We learn he added this secret blend from his own knowledge since he learned it from his father who was originally a cook and he expresses his love for his late father and mother by making them a beautiful meal and believes food is the most important thing in life. If you want to make someone happy, feed them. What a wise man, dear friend. We return to our hero finishing the food and presenting the dish to the general who at first is delighted by the taste. But in a second, the world turns upside down and he cannot breathe. Our hero stands there in shock, not knowing what he did wrong, and the general is transferred to the hospital. The doctor tells him what happened is because he has an allergy to spices. And once he takes his allergy medication, he will be fine. The officer then tries to stir up the general against the battalion and says they must be punished. But the general tells them, "No, this mistake is not worth it, and it is my fault for not telling them about my spice allergy." The food itself was stunning. When I ate it, I felt transported to another world. I felt a freshness and joy. I have never felt in my life. The commander returns to the battalion and yells at our hero and the chef for using spices and a secret blend and row since none of these are standard army ingredients. The chef confesses these ingredients belong to the sergeant who stored them in the fridge because he is always thinking about his stomach and wants something to satisfy his midnight hunger. At 3:00 in the morning, the commander then summons the sergeant who brought the spices and tells him from now on, "Do not bring or put anything from outside the army into the food again." Understood. The sergeant apologizes. The commander then says, "We want this new soldier out of the kitchen after what happened." The sergeant tells him, "Well, I told you to forget it from the start, and you said, "I have a perspective, and I gave it a chance, and now look where we ended up." The commander admits he made a mistake and must fix it. And has the sparrow summon our hero. They walk together, and the commander tells our hero, "Your place is not here. Our hero decides to think about the commander's first offer and then see what he will do. The commander also tells him I have booked you an appointment with a psychiatrist because you must get past your father's death which was only 2 months ago. The next day he goes to meet the psychiatrist who tells him tell me about your father and my son. He says he carried everything on his shoulders alone. I even heard he was going to leave you and transfer to a new job. The chef gets upset, especially since he finally found someone to help him with the kitchen who might take his place since he is finishing up soon and leaving. He feels he will be stuck in the army forever and becomes resentful. His anger toward our hero increases and he starts cooking without any care or effort. If there is any difference, it does not matter since no one can eat the food anyway. The eggs being prepared today are bad and our hero notices through his magical cook's eye ability. He catches the chef before he uses them without realizing it and inspects all the eggs and finds only one good one. He helps the chef adjust the seasonings and for the first time, the chef produces something edible. The commander praises him for it. The chef warms back up to our hero and comes to talk with him and tells him he hopes he will not leave the kitchen since he finally found someone to help him. Song hears them and goes to ask the commander to let Kang stay in the kitchen. The commander gets annoyed that she keeps interfering in his work and tells her, "Let me handle my own affairs. Do not let that happen again and do not forget your own rank. Everyone who was at your level has already made it further now and do not forget how you ended up here. Song is upset and leaves. She clearly has a big secret behind her dear friend that we will discover together. What a situation that must be. The time limit the game set to earn the commander's approval is running out, so he must hurry. He finishes at exactly the right moment and produces an unmatched dish and goes to the commander. But unluckily, the commander does not like this particular dish and tells him, "I have made my decision. You're being transferred and there is no way around it. My word is final and I know what I'm doing. Our hero is upset and leaves heartbroken and loses challenge points in the game. The cooking mission ends for him and he decides to give the food to Song for her to eat at least. But before she eats, a call comes telling her they have found a defector from North Korea coming out of the sea. Everyone gathers and takes him to a room and they all try to win his approval to have him work as a spy with them and not return to his country and stay. He tells them, "I am not even a defector. I want to go back to my leader so he does not kill me. I was out at sea on a boat and a storm came and I fell into the water. I thought I was dead and then I found myself on your shore. Send me back to my country. The commanders step outside and discuss among themselves that they have notified the brigadier general and colonel who are high ranking and must come and convince this man to stay with them so they can all get promotions. Song then enters and talks to him about freedom and their wonderful films and series. He tells them that is a tempting offer honestly, but I'm scared. Our hero then shows up playing along and Song tells him, "Let us put our trust in God. Maybe when he eats your food, he will fall in love and stay with us." They request a regular delivery order like any normal person. But of course, that does not exist in North Korea. And the commander tries to convince him that he can do all of that on a phone here. But he tells them, "What are you saying? You are bringing me restaurant food to convince me your food is good. I want handmade food, home food. I want to see your real food and be convinced by it." Our heroine then remembers the meal he made and has him heated and bring it to him. She leaves the North Korean man to eat alone and locks the door. The rest of the commanders arrive and hear the defector making sounds and think he has died. When they enter, they find him flying with happiness and he tells them, "This is the first time in my life I have eaten food like this. I went to another world, the world of music that I love. I remembered the first time I heard a song from your side when I was in North Korea and the feeling of happiness that came over me then. I felt like a rapper. I sat and sang and had the time of my life. Right then, I decided I want to be a rapper for real and stay with you and live the freedom you talk about here in South Korea. The commanders are very happy and take him to do an interview where he talks about the greatness of their country and the humiliation he experienced in North Korea. Each one takes credit for convincing him to leave his country and stay with them. Before leaving, he thanks our hero for the food and tells him, "You made me live the best moments of my life." Song takes advantage of the moment and asks the colonel to let the soldier who made the food stay in the kitchen since he was about to leave. The colonel tells them let him stay in the kitchen because of his exceptional talent and also gives everyone leave. Everyone is happy because our hero has transformed the battalion's reputation except for the bully who feels our hero took all the glory for himself. The game then reopens for our hero and continues the challenges with him raising his level and he appears to be heading into fiery challenges. The next day, the chef rewards our hero and tells him, "You did outstanding work. You did something I have never done in my life in the kitchen. You deserve a chef's uniform, my son." The game then gives him elevated abilities and transfers his rank to assistant army chef and unlocks new skills and new recipes. Our hero starts using his abilities and developing his skills. But the woman is upset because there are no more food leftovers anymore. Our hero tells her, "The meat you brought us helped us free a defector and win a person to our side." The woman is happy and leaves pleased. Our hero then goes to clean the bathrooms and is happy and singing away. But the sparrow cannot contain himself and tells him, "You love the army. Why? Because you're spoiled and sitting in the kitchen getting pampered." Our hero apologizes to him and says, "I do not mean to upset anyone." But the sparrow tells him, "You should be thankful the chef is a decent man. If you had been in the bullies group, you would have known what fate the army gave me." He then finds the bully coming out of the bathroom, holding the sparrow and humiliating him. And now we understand why he is always complaining and crying. The bully then goes to our hero thinking he is a helpless young man and grabs his face, intending to make him cry. The bully's eyes fill with rage and the game advises our hero to back away, but the muscular chef arrives and catches up to our hero who was only about to take two steps back. The chef is the one who makes an example of the bullies and tells the head bully, "If you come near my people again, I will tickle you, break you, mince you, destroy you." He takes our hero and leaves after reclaiming his dignity. And tells him, "Do not let anyone talk to you that way again. And if anyone messes with you, step on them, and I have your back. I'm going on leave soon, and I want you to be strong without me. I want you to become a legend, not someone people look at and call a pushover." They then go together to the kitchen and find today's food is fish. The chef tells him, "This is the most disliked meal in the army because fish naturally has a strong smell and there is nothing here to get rid of it." The chef leaves and the game opens up and our hero sits reading through recipes. He watches the chef moving his hands in the air and thinks, "Has this man gone crazy? What is he moving in the air like that?" He does not know our hero has a power and makes gestures. The chef leans over to him and tells him, "Are you all right, my friend? What is the matter? What is wrong? Tell me." Our hero is startled and tells him, "No, I am fine. I was just imagining myself swimming in the water and acting like a fish to see how I could get rid of it smell. They then learn an important official is coming and everything must be in perfect order or they will all be in serious trouble. Everyone tidies their rooms and cleans the barracks and makes everything 100% spotless. All that remains is the most important thing which is the food and the kitchen. Something respectable must be made. The sergeant goes and asks about what food is coming for them today. He says, "Today an important official is coming and we must make a good impression." They tell him we need to tell you something. Today's food is fish. He hears it from where he is standing and panics because this is the dish no one has ever seen anyone eat. It is well known that everyone who gets it throws it away. He knows he cannot order from outside because the official will notice and say he wants to see real army food. He calls the training center and asks them for chickens since they are responsible for food distribution in the areas. The soldier tells him at your service, sir. But the officer standing beside him is bored of this battalion and sees them as a trivial crowd of people who do not see their own work. So he decides to teach them a lesson and also sends them fish. The moment the chef smells it, he knows there's no hope. Our hero then decides to step in and cook himself. At that point, a new magical energy appears to him. But unfortunately, there's still a smell. The sergeant grabs him and says, "Handle it or I will cut you into pieces and cook you instead of the fish." Our hero tells him, "Give me a break. I'm just a kid. Please let me go check what spices in the store room might mask the smell." He goes to the store room and finds tomato sauce there and remembers standing with his father at the restaurant and adding sauce to the dish to cover the smell. The game then shows him the exact quantity needed in exchange for the last energy he has. He agrees to save the situation and puts it on the food. Everyone is terrified thinking the food is about to be ruined and this evening is going to be a complete disaster. At that moment, the important official arrives and does a tour of the battalion and finds everything is fine. He asks the soldiers if there is anything wrong or they are unhappy with. But of course, everyone is trained and says exactly what is expected and no one goes off script. The official says he has left the most important part which is the first complaint among soldiers in all armies and that is the food. Come on then. The commander is asked what they are serving today and says chicken sir. The official says good. You thought of a different dish since that was the moment the important official would have sent me to all kinds of trouble. But the important official enters and is shocked to find the food is fish. But he smiles in front of the cameras while inside he is cutting himself to pieces thinking I am seriously eating fish in the army. And he prays let us try something else. But unfortunately what is placed before him is fish again. It should have variety, but the most important thing is that it has taste. Since he said he wanted variety with the fish, they decided to make rice. But the game sends our hero an alert that his energy is depleted and he cannot cook rice. He decides to push through himself. He must keep going to the last breath in him. He goes to get rice and then faints. Because of this, the game system shuts down and he wakes to find himself in a lush green garden full of trees with no one around except the crow he saw on his first day at the base. He wonders what brought it here to his dream and keeps walking through the place until he finds his father standing there cooking. He runs to him and hugs him and sits talking to him about how he is doing. He tells his father, "My situation is very bad and I am being worn down in the army. But every time I remember you and what you did for me, I feel reassured." His father tells him, "Work with integrity. And if you ever feel exhausted, look at the joy in people's eyes when they eat from your hands. Then you will know and understand just how special a person you are." The surroundings begin to transform and our hero's father stands up and tells him, "Do not rely on the game and do not use the skills and things it gives you. Do not forget yourself. You must also be a real chef. Use your own personal abilities because if you keep using the game skills, you will exhaust yourself and everything around you will disappear. In the end, they taste the food he had been making and the father asks him to eat it and stay and not come back." But our hero tells him, "I cannot believe I finally see you. I will come back to you. I want to see you." His father tells him, "You fool, if you come here, you will not return to your world and you will leave your mother and sister alone." Our hero eats and disappears from the place and wakes up in the hospital crying and not understanding if this was real or imagination. The game system restarts and the doctor comes to check on our hero, but finds him completely fine with nothing wrong at all. Afterward, they go to meet the general who asks who came up with the fish idea and requests they serve the same food the soldiers eat. The commander tries to feel important and take all the credit for himself, but Song embarrasses him and says it was Soldier Kang who was responsible and gives him all the credit. Our hero is surprised because she was actually the one with the idea and she gave all the credit to him. The general is pleased with her boldness and tells her, "You have become a real commander now." She tells him, "It is all thanks to your guidance, sir. We are all your students." She thanks him and tells him the food being liked is the most important thing. But we have one problem. Most of the food that comes to our battalion arrives already spoiled. The general looks puzzled and soldier Kang speaks up and says all the eggs they received were bad. The general gets upset and asks the sergeant and commander if they were aware of this problem. They fall silent because they do not know what to say since they never cared about anything like this and they look very bad. The general tells them, "You must monitor yourselves what comes into the battalion. These words are directed at you. If this problem happens again, your punishment is on me. But the important thing now is to make it up to the soldiers who worked so hard cleaning and could not eat anything because of the important officials visit. They decide to have a barbecue party. Our hero goes to get the equipment and finds a new knife has been added to his skills. The chef starts grilling, but his cooking skills are what they are, and the food coming off his hands is something else entirely. Burn things nobody can eat. Our hero finds the soldiers unhappy and the game asks him to take on a new mission, which is to grill for the soldiers and earn their approval. He goes with full respect and asks the chef to rest and says he can tell the chef is tired and his muscles are taking a beating. As always, with the game's help, the food that comes out is something that whoever smells it does not even need to eat anymore. Already full just from the smell and the sweetness of it. A truck arrives and takes the first plate. The commander tries to eat it in front of the general to earn his approval, but the officer comes along and knocks his food and goes to eat in front of the general himself to earn his approval. As usual with our heroes cooking, the general feels like he has been to a resort and come back fresh. Stepped into the water and stepped out alert, young again, sharp-minded, and a young man whose only concern in life is to eat again. They all feel happy and want more. But Song tells them enough. We are already full and the soldiers and chefs have not eaten yet, so let us have some dignity and leave the rest for them.
