Opening & Worship Kickoff
The service begins with a welcome from hosts Mckenzie and Jay, celebrating the global online community joining from cities like Panama City, New York City, Kansas City, and Jacksonville. They emphasize that everyone is welcome and part of the family.
Key Highlights:
- Easter Celebration Recap: 276 people were baptized last weekend as they declared Jesus as Lord and Savior. A powerful moment celebrating resurrection in October.
- Neighbors to Nations Launch: This marks the beginning of a two-year discipleship journey centered on the Great Commission in Matthew 28. The church is praying for revival, believing they are already in the midst of it.
- Resources: A discipleship guide is available through the online store and chat links to help participants engage throughout the five-week series.
Worship Through Song
The congregation enters into worship with testimonies of God's faithfulness, singing about His presence in every high and low. The lyrics emphasize being a witness to God's faithfulness, His promises that never fail, and pouring out praises because He is worthy.
Theological Themes in Worship:
- God gives life, love, and light to darkness
- He restores broken hearts
- Jesus left the throne and chose the cross to rescue humanity
- Death was not the end, Jesus conquered hell so we could resurrect
Sermon: Matthew 28, The Great Commission
The message dives into Matthew 28:16-20, the most important passage for understanding God's purpose for our lives. For a deeper understanding of the broader context of Jesus' life and teachings, see The Gospel of Matthew Explained: Jesus' Life, Teachings, and Legacy.
Setting the Stage
- Jesus instructed the disciples to meet Him in Galilee, not at the Ascension site near Jerusalem
- Big things happen on mountains in Scripture
- Some worshipped, some doubted, even in the presence of the resurrected Christ
- Key Insight: Evidence alone does not produce worship. Only when your heart is seized by a greater affection and your need exceeds your ego will you surrender to Jesus.
Doubt and Discipleship
- The opposite of faith is not doubt but fear and ego
- You can have unanswered questions and still follow Jesus
- The disciples picked up their doubts and obeyed, eventually changing the world
- Story: A plane conversation with a young woman who had many "what about" questions but was ultimately challenged to follow Jesus despite her doubts
The Authority of Jesus
| Aspect | Meaning | |--------|---------| | By Right | Jesus is God the Son, co-equal with the Father, Creator of all things | | By Resume | He lived perfectly, fulfilled every prophecy, obeyed every law, and conquered death |
Jesus has authority over:
- Your body
- Your bedroom
- Your bank account
- Angels and demons
- Life, death, and eternity
The Great Commission Explained
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you." (Matthew 28:19-20)
Key Points:
- "Therefore" connects to Jesus's authority, He gives orders, not suggestions
- "Therefore" also echoes God's promise to Abraham: "I will bless you so that you will be a blessing"
- The only imperative (command) is "make disciples"
- "Go" is more like "as you are on the go"
- You must be a disciple to make a disciple
- First-century rabbis said, "May you be covered in the dust of your rabbi", becoming who they are, not just learning what they know
God's Purpose for Your Life
- The two most important days: when you're born and when you're reborn
- Then: when you figure out why God put you on this planet
- The answer: Make disciples. From your neighbors to the nations.
Three Gospel-Centered Initiatives
The vision video outlines three initiatives for the two-year journey:
One Name
- Continue glorifying God through worship and Word
- Make disciples who make disciples
- Expand service times, build student spaces, invest in discipleship conferences
Neighbors
- Take the gospel into communities
- Grow disciple groups from 900 to 2,500
- Have a disciple group in every neighborhood
- Launch campuses in Jacksonville and beyond
Nations
- Plant 200 additional local churches focused on unreached people groups
- Deploy 15 additional long-term missionaries
- Continue Compassion International partnership
- Support Bible translation, disaster relief, and digital evangelism
Call to Action
- Commit to all five weeks of the Neighbors to Nations series
- Join a disciple group or Discover Group (starting October 26)
- Get the discipleship guide, read it, pray through it, and ask God: "What is my role in the Great Commission through my giving, my growing, and my going?"
"None of us can do it all, but every single one of us has been called to do something."
As you embark on this discipleship journey, consider exploring Following the Lamb: Reviving Faith in the Western Adventist Church for insights on reviving faith in a contemporary context. Additionally, the call to make disciples is deeply connected to the power of prayer; for more on this, see Lord, Teach Us to Pray: The Cornerstone of Power for the Remnant Church.

[music] [music] [music]
[music] [music] >> Hey, welcome to the Church of 122.
Thanks for visiting us. >> [music] [music]
[music] >> And a big [music] welcome to the Church of 1122. My name is Mckenzie. This is my
friend Jay. >> And we're so glad [music] that you're here. Whether you're joining us from
Panama City, New York City, Oklahoma [music] City, can't forget Kansas City. >> Kansas City, just moved there. Chiefs
are doing pretty good. >> Oh, they're doing >> Jacksonville, not saying anything.
>> Whether you're joining us from any of those places or anywhere in between, we are so glad that you are here. Here at
the Church of 1122, we are a movement for all people to discover a deep and real relationship with Jesus Christ. And
that all people includes you. You're a part of our family. So, wherever you're joining from, would you let us know in
the [music] chat right now? We want to know you. >> That's right, we're family. You're in
our church. And so, don't be a stranger. You are not here by accident. So, in the chat, let us know [music] where you're
joining from, what country you're joining us from. We have some incredible serve staff that would love to connect
with you and get to know you. So, go on and let us know who you are in the chat. And it's going to be a great weekend.
But, before we talk about this [music] weekend, we got to celebrate last weekend. What happened?
>> That's right, we had an incredible weekend last weekend. We got [music] to celebrate the resurrection together.
>> Easter in October. It was great. >> And we celebrated 276 people who took the step of declaring
Jesus their Lord [music] and Savior through baptism. >> Incredible.
>> Praise God. And today, we get to kick off season eight of Matthew, our final season [music] through this series.
>> here. >> It's already here. And with that, we're kicking off Neighbors to Nations, a
two-year discipleship journey that we get to go on as a church centered all around the Great Commission found in
Matthew 28. >> That's right. [music] And we all get to play a part in the Great Commission. And
we have to ask ourselves that question, what part are we going to play when it comes to creating disciples? And so,
what I want you to recognize is I love that our church, [music] we are all over the world and we all get to play a part
and it starts with us. And so, I'm so excited to see what [music] God's going to do.
>> That's right. And we have some resources for you, our Neighbors to Nations discipleship guide that we want you to
have. It has some questions and resources [music] that you're going to want throughout this series. So, you can
get that through our online store or the link that our serve team is going [music] to drop in the chat right now.
And you are not going to want to miss a single moment of the next five weeks [music] of Neighbors to Nations.
>> That's right. We say it all the time, we're not praying for revival, we are in the midst of it. And so, when we think
about what God wants to do through our two-year [music] discipleship journey Neighbors to Nations, we think about all
that we are asking God to do it starts with our families, our neighborhoods, [music] and we're
believing the same for the nations. And so, but right now though, we're getting ready to worship. And so, go [music] on
and grab a Bible, a pen, something to write on, and let's worship together. >> Worship together.
>> [music] >> Church family, it's an honor to be in the house in the
presence of King Jesus with you tonight. I look around this room and I just see faces that are testimonies of God's
redeeming [music] love. So, that's how we're going to start out worshiping together. We're just going to testify
what we've seen [music] the Lord do in our lives. Amen. Why don't you join us?
When I [music and singing] was lost and all alone, your presence [singing] was [music] where I found home.
You were there and you're here [music] right now. In [music] every high
and every [singing] low, you never left >> [music]
>> me without hope. thing. You were good and you're good right
>> [singing] >> now. Come on, this is our story. >> [music]
>> I'm a witness to your faithfulness. I've seen you breathe life where there was none. So I
>> [music] >> pour out my praises again. You're worthy.
You're worthy of all of it. >> [music]
>> Your promises never fail. I [music] got stories I live
to tell. So [singing] I pour out my praises again. You're
worthy. [music] You're worthy of all of
You're so worthy. You [music] left the throne and chose the cross. Laid down [music] your life
>> [singing] >> to rescue us. You're the savior then. You're the savior
right here, right now. >> [music] >> But even death
was not the end. You conquered [music and singing] hell so I could
resurrect again. Resurrecting >> [music]
>> now. Resurrecting [music] then.
Resurrecting now. >> [music] >> I'm a witness to your faithfulness.
I've seen you breathe life where there was none. So I [music]
pour out my praises again. You're worthy. You're truly
worthy of >> [music] >> Your promises never fail.
>> [music] >> I got stories I live to tell.
So I >> [music] >> pour out
my praise again. Your word Your word
is forever. >> [music] >> You're worthy of
>> [music] >> forever. >> [music]
>> Your word So, come on and testify, sing.
>> [music] >> You're good and I'm a witness to tell it.
You're [music] strong and I'm a witness to it. You're constant [music]
and I'm a witness to it. Yeah, and I'm confident. That's right. I'll see it again [music] and again. You love and
I'm a witness to it. God, you heal [music] and I'm a witness to it.
You save [singing] and I'm a witness to it. Yeah, and I'm confident.
I'll see it [music and singing] again and again. You're
good and I'm a witness to it. You're [music] strong and I'm a witness to it.
You're constant and I'm a witness to it. >> [music] >> Yeah, and I'm confident.
I'll see it again and again. >> [music] >> You love
and I'm a witness You heal [music] and I'm
You save and I'm a witness [music] to it.
I'll see it again [music] and again. I'm a witness
I'll see it again and again. I pour
out my praise. >> [music] >> You're worthy.
>> [music] >> Cuz your promises
never fail. >> [music] >> I got stories I
live to tell. So, I I pour out my
>> [music] >> praise. >> [music]
[music] [music] [music]
[music] [music] [music]
[music] [music] >> You give life. [singing]
You are [music] love. You bring light to the darkness. [music] You give hope.
You restore every heart [music] that is broken.
Great are you, [music] Lord. It's your breath >> [music]
>> in our lungs. So, we pour out our praise. [music] We pour out our praise. It's your breath
>> [music] [singing] >> in our lungs.
So, we pour out our praise to you oh >> [music and singing] >> only.
To you only, Lord. >> [music] >> You give [music] life.
You are love. [singing] You bring life to
>> [music] >> the darkness. You give hope.
You restore every [music] heart
>> [singing] >> that is broken.
>> [music] >> Great are you, Lord.
Every [music] voice exalts your greatness. And our
love so [music] we pour out our praise. We
pour out our praise. Exalts your greatness.
And our [music] love so we pour out our praise
>> [music] >> to you only.
Exalts your greatness. And our love so
>> [music] >> we pour out our praise.
We pour out our praise. Exalts your greatness.
And [music] our love so
we pour out our praise to you
only. >> [music] >> To you only, [music and singing] Lord.
The whole >> [music] >> earth
will shout your praise. Our hearts will [music] cry. These bones will sing. Come on.
Great [music] >> [singing] >> are you,
>> [music] >> Lord. You're thrown on our praises. You are
>> [music] >> the earth will shout your
praise. Our hearts will cry, these
bones will sing, "Great
>> [music] >> are you,
>> [music] >> Lord. All the
earth will shout [music] your praise. Our hearts will cry,
these bones will >> [music] >> sing,
"Great >> [music] >> are you,
Lord. >> [music] >> You're so great
in our love, >> [music]
>> so we pour out our praise.
You are worthy, Lord. You're so [music] great in our love,
so we pour [music] out our praise. Oh,
only you're so great in our
>> [music] >> love, so
we pour out our praise. We pour out our praise. You're
>> [music] >> so great in our
love, so we pour out our >> [music]
>> praise. You're holy. Great
>> [music] >> are you, Lord. >> [music]
>> Yes, you are. Yes, you are. Great >> [music]
>> are you, Lord. >> [music] >> You're so great
in our >> [music] >> love,
so we pour out our praise. We pour out our praise. [music] You're
so great in lungs. So, we [music] pour out our praise to
you only. [singing] >> [music] >> To you only, Lord. To you only, God.
>> There will be no idols before you, Lord. We lift up our praise to you and you alone. To you only.
Lord, I pray that you would tune our hearts to hear your voice tonight. Above the noise of the world.
Above the whispers. Above the enemy who seeks to kill, [music] steal, and destroy.
God, I pray that you would give us ears to hear your [music] voice, the voice of the good shepherd.
Through your word. Lord, we love you. You're worthy of our worship.
No matter what we're going through, no matter what circumstance we're facing [music] here today.
No matter what hardship we're going through, you're worthy of our praise because we have an eternal hope in you
that far outweighs anything that's coming at us today. So, Lord, hear our praise.
You've given us the breath [music] in our lungs. We've received your grace. And Lord,
we're going to sing back [music] your praise forever and ever. We give you all the glory. It's in Jesus
name we all say. Amen and amen. Y'all can [music] take a seat.
>> Amen. How we doing, church? So good to worship together. If it's your first time here, you picked a great
weekend >> [music] >> to be here. We are kicking off our final
season of studying the book of Matthew. All year has been leading to this season called Neighbors to Nations. And it's
not just a [music] season this year in this series. This is a two-year discipleship journey that we are going
to go on as a church [music] called Neighbors to Nations. It's rooted in the Great Commission in Matthew 28. And over
the next two years, we're going to be asking [music] ourselves this question, "What is my role in the Great Commission
in my giving, and my growing, [music] and my going?" So right now, our team is passing out a book for you. And this
book's beautiful. I want to put it on my coffee table, but it's more than just beautiful on the outside. Inside [music]
of this book, there is lots of information about the ministry that our church is going to do over the next two
years. How many of you were at Neighborhood Nights [music] over the past couple months?
So fun, right? So good to hear Pastor Joby cast the vision for where we're headed as a church, and much of that
information [music] is in this book. So you're going to want to open it and read it. Read the stories. Look at the
pictures of where God's bringing us. [music] And and be looking at it thinking, "What is my place in this
[music] in this initiative over the next two years?" And then it's not only that, it's also going to be your sermon guide
over the next five weeks. [music] This series is going to be five weeks long, and I would encourage you right now just
pre-decide that you're coming to all five weeks. And towards the back of this book, there is space to take notes for
every sermon. [music] Now, why? Why? Well, one, so that during the series, you can see how [music] God
begins to move your heart in the direction that he is calling you to do. But also, so over the next two years and
beyond, you can [music] see what God started to do at the beginning of this journey and where he's going to take
you. >> [music] >> Because we really believe that Neighbors
to Nations has not only >> [music] >> the potential to change your life, but
to change the world. That's how big it is. That's what we're believing God to do cuz we serve [music] a really, really
big God. So we're excited about the next two years. And if you're worshiping with us online, there is a digital copy, or
we'd love to send you a free one of our books. So let [music] us know there. One thing we want to invite you to be a
part of as we begin this journey together [music] is we want to invite you to discover groups. This is a great
way to get plugged into our church family, to meet some people here, to deepen your relationship with Jesus.
[music] Our campus pastor here at San Pablo, Pastor Trey Brunson, he's going to lead this. It's over the next four
Mondays. [music] So, starting this coming Monday on October 26th. So, you if you're not in a
group, even if [music] you are in a group and you just want to continue to plug into this church family, show up on
Monday night. And listen, we're serving heavy apps. So, yeah. >> [music]
>> And there's child care. So, really no excuse for you not to be there. So, if you want to know more about Neighbors to
Nations or [music] uh sign up for Discover Groups, you can text NEXT to 441122.
Now, we're going to continue [music] in worship like we do, and I want you to grab your Bible. I want you to open up
to page 49 in your book cuz that's where the sermon notes are going to be so you're ready to take some notes. [music]
And the video that we're about to watch is a little bit longer than our normal video, so settle in a little bit. It's
not only [music] inspirational, it's also informational. It's going to unpack a lot of where we're going in Neighbors
to Nations. [music] And I want to encourage you to not just look at it through the lens of a
bystander, but as a participant. Asking yourself, "God, where might you be leading me?" Cuz you're not going to be
able to do it all. Lots [music] of things are going to pop up on the screen of what we're doing. You're not going to
be able to do it all, but you can do something. [music] So, start to ask, "God, what are you leading me? What is
my role in the Great [music] Commission?" Check this out. >> [music]
>> Go. Go, make disciples of all nations. Because all authority in heaven and on
earth has been [music] given to me. Baptize them in the name of the Father, [music]
and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.
This is the Great Commission. >> Standing on the Mount of Olives, right outside the city of Jerusalem,
Jesus gathered his disciples and he gave us a clear command. Go and make disciples of all nations.
Not some, but all. This is not a calling for a few. It is the mission of every follower of Jesus
Christ. The kingdom of God is not standing still, and neither are we. This next
season, it's not about us. It's about joining him in what he is doing from our neighbors to the nations.
>> Who is my neighbor? My neighbor is the person who is close to me, of course. My boyfriend, my
girlfriend, roommate, husband, wife, mother, [music] father, person next door, your professor, your friends.
Everyone is our [music] neighbor that lives on this little planet. >> Jacksonville is 840 square miles.
And this area [music] is one of the fastest growing regions in the country. 100 new residents move in every single
[music] day. Many people here are surrounded by homes, but they don't have a community.
>> We are demographically [music] moving closer and closer to each other, and we become a neighborhood without becoming a
brotherhood. When is the last time that you shared your life with another person? Or
someone of another race? >> In 2012, [music] 51% of young Americans regularly
interacted with their neighbors. In 2026, that number dropped to just 25%. [music]
People are more connected digitally than ever before, yet increasingly disconnected [music] from the people
living right next door. >> You have to love the people of Africa. You have to love the people of China.
You have to love [music] the people of Latin America. You have to love the people of Europe. You have to love all
of those people. The rich nations, the poor nations, the rich people and the poor people.
>> There are currently 8.3 billion [music] people living on Earth and 3.6 billion of those people live among unreached
people groups. The greatest [music] concentration of those people live in the 10/40 window,
which is a region that spans North Africa, the Middle East, [music] and Asia between the 10 and 40° North
latitude. >> The Great Commission is part of the command [music] we are given in Matthew.
It is a duty. It is a command that we should go and keep expanding [music] the kingdom of God.
>> Neighbors to Nations is a 2-year discipleship journey based in the Great Commission, where we are all asking God
to reveal to us what true obedience looks like [music] as we prepare for what is next.
As God shapes our obedience, he also is going to reshape what we value [music] and how we live.
We are believing that through us, God will accomplish three >> [music]
>> gospel-centered initiatives over these next 2 years. Initiative one, one name.
One name means that we will continue [music] to be a church that remains steadfast in glorifying God in worship
and [music] word by declaring the gospel and making disciples that make disciples.
>> I realized that Jesus suffered and [music] died a death that he did not need to do and that that counted to take
the place of my sins. >> [music] >> That was a pivotal moment in my life and
I got sober in 2020 and I've seen my addictions [music] bow before Jesus.
>> We will simply continue to seek out and disciple those [music] in need, create space and invest in environments where
people can be cared for, fight for the next generation, [music] and ensure that all people have the
opportunity to discover and deepen a relationship with Jesus Christ. >> [music]
>> God will transform life through salvation and baptism. We will expand service times to make [music] room for
one more. We will continue to disciple and care for people in every season of life and invest [music] more deeply in
discipleship through conferences. We have an enemy [music] who is seeking to take out the new generation, but not
on our watch. We will ensure that future generations are discipled through environments
designed [music] specifically for students. We will build dedicated student spaces.
We will expand [music] student camps, equip parents with ongoing family discipleship resources, and by building
[music] consistent disciple groups. Initiative two, neighbors. As we are on the go, we will take the
gospel into our communities by caring [music] for, loving, and meeting people right where they are while pointing them
to Jesus Christ. >> We have all come together to [music] make sure that this movement is for all
people. Our discipleship group is a group of real mat carriers.
>> It's not just [music] our neighborhood, and that's what's cool. We have people from all over Orange Park.
>> The baptism that we [music] had at the house, two of our one mores got baptized.
>> C.T. Studd said, "The light that shines [music] farthest shines brightest nearest home."
Spreading the gospel [music] to the ends of the earth starts in our own neighborhoods. In this two-year
discipleship journey, we will grow our disciple groups [music] from 900 to 2,500
with the goal of having a disciple group in every neighborhood. We will take marriage [music] mentoring to the next
level and provide new resources for pastoral care. We will also support local public schools and prayer walk our
neighborhoods and launch campuses in Jacksonville [music] and beyond. Initiative
nations. To make the name [music] of Jesus Christ known to every tribe, every tongue, and
every nation, we will partner to plant 200 additional local, autonomous, indigenously led churches [music] with a
focus on unreached people groups, and we will deploy 15 additional long-term missionaries while continuing to send
short-term missionaries [music] to join God's work around the world. We will also continue partnering with
Compassion International and invest in our [music] 11:22 online community, care for our military families, and offer
care for [music] displaced people groups, as well as support disaster relief, invest in Bible translation, and
leverage digital tools to communicate the gospel. Jesus has given us a clear command to go
and make disciples of all nations, and he has invited each of us to play a part in that mission.
This 2-year discipleship journey will stretch us. It will challenge what is comfortable and what is familiar. It
will require every single one of us to live with greater intentionality, but this is where we experience the true
power of God at work through us. Now, our primary goal is that every single one of us that consider 11:22 to
be our church, that we would ask God and we would ask ourselves, what is my role in the Great Commission through my
giving, my growing, and my going? And that we would also be committed to leveraging all that God has entrusted to
us to accomplish >> [music] >> our part in this God-glorifying mission.
God has entrusted each of us with influence, with relationships, with resources, [music]
and with opportunities. He is asking us all to leverage all of it for his glory.
So, I'm asking you to join us as [music] we follow Jesus to do what he tells us in the Great Commission by making
disciples and make disciples and make disciples from every neighborhood to every nation.
>> Amen and amen. Hey, everybody got their journal in their hand? We're going to page 49 is where you can take sermon
notes. All the details of the things that were in that video you can find from pages like 9 to 42. And the part of
the reason we give you this is cuz we want you reading over this and praying through it like crazy and not just
reading for entertainment, but um really sensing Lord, what is it that you were calling me to do in this season
of the life of our church. Hey, also want to thank you for being here. If you're watching if you're one of our
campuses, you're like everything is normal. It was not normal here at San Pablo today.
At about 3:00 a water main busted out on San Pablo and completely flooded Beach and San Pablo and we didn't know we were
going to have services and I can't believe I'm going to say these words out loud, but thank you JEA.
If the tomb is empty, anything is possible and it's so much better to be able to have a service. So thank you for
uh walking on dry ground cuz they parted the Red Sea and here we are. Amen.
Hey, listen. If you got your Bibles, we're going to be in Matthew chapter 28 and congratulations. We have made it to
the end of the Gospel of Matthew. And in fact, this is what This is what all of the studying that we have been doing has
been leading up to this very moment. Now, one of the things that starts a a new season, the last season in our study
of the Matthew, one of the things I've heard dozens of times over the past several
weeks is if you remember way back last Christmas Eve, I stood in front of all of our services and said, "Would you
just give me 1 year?" If you're not really connected, would you just commit this year to give me 1
year to just show up, join a group, show up to weekend worship services, just do the things, man. And over and over and
over people give me testimony. They said, "All right, I committed for the year and about 2 or 3 months in I I am
all in." All right, I've got a similar kind of ask. I would like to for you to give us 5 weeks. For the next 5 weeks,
be at every weekend service. If you have to travel or whatever, make sure you catch it online, but be in person is
better. And if you're not in a group, now's the time to join a disciple group. Or like it's been announced over the
next 4 weeks, you could you could join a discover group at your campus. And we are going to be walking through this
because again, we need each other to figure out what all of us are going to do in the next season of our church. And
as you're reading through all of the initiatives that are listed in here, you may look at it and be like, "Wow, that's
a lot." Yeah, it is a lot. But there's a lot of us. And none of us can do it all, but every single one of us have been
called to do something. And the reason that we're doing these discover groups is to help you be able to take that next
step. The text that we're going to look at in Matthew chapter 28, it's one of the most
famous texts that there are in the Bible, okay? And it's called the Great Commission.
And here's one of the reasons I'm excited about it is probably the number one question that I get asked more than
any other question is some version of "What's God's plan for my life? What's God's purpose for my life? What's God's
will for my life?" Well, if you're ever wondering that, I got really good news. It's right here in Matthew 28:19. This
is God's purpose and plan for your life. The reason he created you was for his glory. And the primary way that we bring
him glory is by by being obedient to doing what he's called us to do. Maybe you've heard this quote that says
some version of the two most important days of your life are when you're born and when you figure out why.
There's one more day in there. The most important day in your life is when you're born and then when you're reborn.
When you surrender your life to the lordship of Jesus Christ. And then when you figure out what on earth God put you
on this planet for. This passage answers that question. In fact, we have spent between all of our services this year,
we have spent 244 hours in the Gospel of Matthew. And all of it was a prequel to what
we're doing right now. This is how important this is. It was for us to know, remember we
talked about this at the beginning of the year. Remember Matthew writes the Gospel of Matthew.
He was born an insider, he became an outsider. He was a Jewish guy and then he went to work for the Roman government
as a tax collector to take taxes from his own people to give to the Romans to attack his own people, not good. And
then Jesus comes along and he doesn't call him by his given name Levi, he calls him for what he sees
in his life. He calls him Matthew and he calls Jesus calls Matthew to be an eyewitness follower, disciple, apostle
of Jesus. And so, after the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, Matthew decides to write everything down and
he's writing to a Jewish audience. Remember this? And the And what he's trying to do is
he's making almost like a legal argument, like a like a lawyer would put together a case that Jesus is the
greater Israel. That the promise that God made to Abraham in Genesis chapter 12,
that Israel missed it. Remember the promise is Genesis chapter 12, very popular verse. It says this,
"Now the Lord said to Abraham, go." Sound familiar? The Great Commission is going to have that same word. He says,
"Now the Lord said to Abraham, go from your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will
show you. And I will make of you a great nation and I will bless you and make your name great." And here's the most
important part of the blessing. So that. Say so that. So that you will be a blessing.
And I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse. And through you all the families of the
earth shall be blessed. Then what happens by the time Jesus shows up is
the people that were running Israel thought, "Well, we're just blessed to be blessed. We're just chosen to be
chosen." And Jesus is like, "You missed the so that." And so this is why like when he turns over the the tables in the
temple, that's why he's so mad because they had just gotten wrapped around the axle of themself. And so Jesus
completely fulfills all of the law and the prophecies in the Old Covenant. And Matthew is writing this to the people so
that they would know that Jesus is the fulfillment of what was promised to Abraham. And the reason that he
discipled you, saved you, rescued you is so that every family in the whole world will be blessed through Jesus.
This is the point. And so it's in that context of the reason that we studied all of the Gospel
of Matthew is so you would know all of the context when he gets to what is called the Great Commission.
So we'll pick it up in Matthew 28:16, it says this, "Now the 11 disciples went to Galilee."
If you remember last week when the women saw the resurrected Christ, Jesus told them, "Hey, go tell my brothers to meet
me in Galilee." And so for the longest time I just always assumed that the Great Commission
happened at the Ascension, kind of right near in Bethany, right near Jerusalem. That's not, it happened
way up in Galilee. So the 11 disciples, they did what Jesus said, they went to Galilee to the mountain to which Jesus
had directed them. Big things always happen on mountains. And so the 11 gather and Jesus has this
conversation with them in Galilee, where he told them to meet, and they did exactly what he said. And
now what what's going to happen over the next 40 days or so is about 40 days after the resurrection,
Jesus is going to ascend to the right hand of God the Father. And so this conversation, the Great Commission
conversation, it happens between somewhere between day 11 and 35. We don't know.
But in that in the meantime, the 40 days that the resurrected Christ is hanging out, he appears all over the place. He
appears over 500 people. He appears in Galilee and he appears in Jerusalem. He appears at the tomb, on
the road to Emmaus, in the upper room, in Galilee. He has a little shore a shore breakfast with Peter.
And then he's going to gather about 120 people around him and he's going to ascend to the right hand of God the
Father. And so they gathered together in Galilee and look at verse 17.
And when they saw him, they worshipped him. As they should, by the way. This is the
resurrected Christ. But look at this next verse. But some doubted.
Some worshipped and some doubted. Now, once again, I said this to you about 25 times, a lot of times online you'll hear
people say, "Well, Jesus never claimed to be God." This is another example of Matthew declaring that Jesus is God. If
you'll remember when Jesus was tempted by the devil in the 40 days in the wilderness, the third temptation, the
devil said to him, "Bow down and worship me." And Jesus quotes a verse from Deuteronomy and says, "You
shall only worship the Lord your God, no one else. Depart from me, devil." Now, the resurrected Christ is there and
people are worshipping him and he does not rebuke him and the reason he doesn't rebuke him is because he is God.
And some worshipped him. And others doubted. This is this kind of crazy.
There's the resurrected Jesus and here is his followers. And some people are worshipping their face off and other
people are like, "I don't know, man." Here's this crazy Dr. Carter talked about this. Matt Carter talked about it
last weekend. It's sort of like at the empty tomb. Remember the women and the chief priest have all the same evidence.
They believed that Jesus was resurrected from the grave. And some of them worshipped him and some
of them were too afraid to lose control, so they did not. Here's what this leads me to understand.
Is that evidence will never be enough to make you worship Jesus. And I'm pro evidence. We don't have
faith in faith, we have faith in a resurrected Christ. There's all kind of evidence for it. And I'm even obsessed
right now with these apologists online that argue with all the other people. I watch it all the time. My favorite's guy
named God Logic. You should look him up. He's a young fun guy and he just he just puts on blast and like Muslims and
Jehovah's Witnesses and all these different people make them look dumb. I enjoy it, but I've never heard one of
them hear his argument and then fall down and worship Jesus. Here's the thing.
It's not until your heart is seized by a greater affection that you will bow down to Jesus. It's not until your need
exceeds your ego that you will bend your knee to Jesus and surrender to him.
And I wish I could talk you into it. I trust so hard every week and I just don't have the power to
change your heart, only Jesus can. This is why I constantly tell you that my sermons are moderately delivered and
exceptionally received. And they're only exceptionally received to the people that God opens their eyes to Jesus. Some
worship, some doubted. That does let me off the hook a little bit in my preaching.
Because if the resurrected Christ can't get 100% participation, then who in the heck do I think I am to get everybody
all in? Okay, so, but it does leave me to ask this question. Do you ever doubt?
I mean, I know this is church, no place for honesty, but anybody ever have some doubts?
Yeah, me too. I don't know if that freaks you out. Follow me. I doubt, okay? Me too.
Well, I got really good news if you've got some doubt sometimes. You could make a great disciple.
And you know what they're doubting? The most important thing in the whole Bible, the resurrection of Christ. Apart from
it, we're all hopeless, but I've got good news. The opposite of faith is not doubt.
The opposite of faith is fear. Ego. I got this.
Control. You see, the reality is this is that what God wants from you is he wants a
relationship with you. Not just begrudging mental ascent to the realities of what has happened. He
actually wants you to receive his love and be able to love him back. So, if you've got doubts, it's okay,
man. I got really good news. Just pick up your doubts and follow after Jesus. In fact, that's what the disciples are
doing. Their doubts don't last forever. Even though they doubted, Jesus said, "Meet me in Galilee." And that's what
they did. They picked up their unanswered questions and they did what he said. And they Eventually, these are
going to be the 11 apostles. They're going to add one more and they're going to change the whole world.
You see, don't let your unanswered questions keep you from what God is calling you to.
Years ago, I was doing a mission trip in Africa. And to fly home from Africa, we did a layover in Amsterdam.
And we're boarding the plane and I'm It's a long flight. It's two really long flights.
And when I'm boarding a plane, I always pray for the person next to me. Not in the spiritual way that you think, but
there's certain people I'm praying don't sit next to me. And talkers are mostly what I'm praying against, okay? And
especially young female talkers. That's like my least favorite person to share a plane with, okay? Don't judge me, but
that's just what I do. And so, I'm walking up to my seat and I'm like, "Oh, no. You have not answered my prayers."
It's about a 25-year-old girl. And she's like, "Hey, how you doing?" you know? And I was like, "Oh, gosh.
Okay. So, now here's what I do on planes. I've told you before. I've always got a sermon to
write. So, I just get out my Bible. And many times that shuts down all the conversation. And then I'm just like,
"Well, the Lord doesn't want to save you right now with me. So, that's fine." And she looks at me and goes, "You
actually believe that?" And I go, "Yeah, I do. Can I tell you about it?" And she starts leaning in and I began to
share the gospel from the very beginning that she was created by God for God and that she was his idea, that she's not a
mistake and she's not an accident. But we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God and that's what
separates and all the things she's ever been looking for in the world, the reason they don't fully and finally
satisfy is because she was made for more. She was made for him and he knows that and there is more grace in Jesus
than sin in you, okay? And I'm laying it on pretty thick and she's getting kind of weepy-eyed. And if you've ever ever
done this before and somebody starts crying, you're like, "Bingo, this is about to happen, you know?"
And so I'm about to close the deal and ask her if she's ready right now to pray and receive Christ and then immediately
she puts up the brakes. She's like, "Hold on, I got some questions." Now, what I began to find
out, I didn't ask any details cuz that's what in the kind of kind of conversation I wanted to have, but she was coming
from Amsterdam as a 25-year-old single girl doing a bunch of things that she was not created
to do. Being used by people that she was not created for. There was a lot of guilt
and there was a lot of shame. And I'm trying to share the hope of Christ. And so, I mean, she's got tears
coming down her eyes. I'm talking to her about Jesus and then she puts up the brakes. She's like, "Hold on one second.
Wait, wait, wait." "But what about gay people? Does God hate gay people?
And what about And what about if if you the man that's on the island that never even hears about this Jesus, does he go
to hell? And then what about the dinosaurs? How do you explain the dinosaurs if it was Adam and Eve?"
And so I just leaned in and I was like, "Ma'am, are Are you gay?" And she says, "No."
Okay. "And you're obviously not deserted on an island, right?" She's like, "Right." I
go, "Are you a paleontologist?" "I am not." "Okay.
There's I know you got unanswered questions. There are answers to all these things,
but you've got a decision to make right now. Are you going to pick up your doubts and your your unanswered
questions and the what abouts and follow after Jesus or are you going to trust in yourself? That's what you do with your
doubts. So, there are disciples standing there in Galilee on a mountain with
resurrected Christ and he doesn't shame them for their doubts. They just decide to pick up their
unanswered questions and follow after Jesus. The best example of this I can find is in John chapter 6. In John
chapter 6, Jesus just feeds the 5,000, there's a miracle, and then he begins this very hard teaching, "Unless you eat
my flesh and drink my blood, you have no part with me." Everybody starts leaving cuz it doesn't make sense, and then
Jesus goes to the disciples. He looks at Peter, and Jesus doesn't ask random questions, and he says, "Do you want to
leave, too?" And Peter basically goes, "Sort I do."
I mean, this doesn't even make any sense. Jesus never explains anything. And he could have. He could have said,
"The whole blood and flesh thing is about communion, which points to the gospel. Apart from the gospel, you have
no part with me." That's what he was saying. But, Peter's answer is what helps me when I have doubts.
Peter's answer is, "To whom shall we go? You're the only one that offers eternal life." So, when you doubt, what do you
do? You simply pick up your your doubts, your unanswered questions, your I don't know why you would do this, that, or the
other, and you follow after Jesus. This is what they do. Some worship, and some doubt it.
Verse 18, and Jesus came to them, and he said, "All authority in heaven and on earth
has been given to me." All authority on heaven and on earth has been given to me.
So, who has all the authority? Jesus has all the authority. And it's given to him. Why? Well, one,
because of his resume. And two, because of his right. It's rightly his authority because Jesus is
God. God the Son is co-equal with God the Father and has eternally existed in as one God in three persons forever and
ever, amen. It was by the very mouth of of God the Son that everything that is created has been created for him, by
him, through him, and to him. There is not a single inch in all of the cosmos that Jesus does not rightly declare,
mine. But not only by right, he has all authority by resume. He lived a perfect
life, he fulfilled every promise and prophecy of the old covenant, he obeyed every single law, and he put death to
death. That he died on the cross bearing our sin, but he had no sin in him, so death
couldn't hold him. So, though they had him in the grave, he snatched back the keys of death, rolled that stone away,
and he rose from the grave claiming authority not just in heaven and earth, but over death itself. He has all
authority on heaven and earth. And all means all, man. That means he has authority over your
body. And he has authority over your bedroom, let that sink in. And over your bank
account, and over your activities, and over the angels and demons, and he has authority even over life and death and
eternity. He has all authority. Now, as Americans, this is going to rub us the wrong way.
Because the air that we breathe is the opposite of this. The air that we breathe is, you don't
get to tell me what to do. Jesus does. He has all
authority. In fact, a part of what it means to surrender your life to the lordship of Jesus is this. Do you
remember the beginning of his teaching ministry all the way back in the Sermon on the Mount, he kicks the whole thing
off with, "Blessed are the poor in spirit." Blessed are you when you realize you're spiritually bankrupt and
you need somebody to do for you what you can't do for yourself. And then he says, "Blessed are you that you mourn." Not
that you're in a sad situation, but that you mourn over the sinful condition of your heart. And then, the next one is,
"Blessed are the meek." Meek is a It's like a farming word, it means a bit bridled horse. It doesn't mean that we
are weak or wimpy, but a bit bridled horse means blessed are you when you turn the reins of your life over to a
different master, the Lord Jesus who has authority over all things because not only does he love you and have eternity
for you, but his ways are just better than your ways. And what he wants is for you.
And so he has all authority. And with all authority in heaven and on earth, the next thing that comes out of his
mouth are just going to be the most important thing you've ever heard in your life.
And it is called the Great Commission. So with all of the intro of the entire
Gospel of Matthew and with all authority in heaven and on earth, to his disciples he says this.
And what he says to them, if you're a disciple of Jesus, it applies to me and you today. He says this, "Go therefore
and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you." The way the Gospel of Luke records it is
later when he's going back to the mountain of Ascension in Bethany, he's going to say this to them. It's
basically the same thing with different words. In Acts 1:8, he says, "And you will receive power when the Holy Spirit
comes upon you and you will be my witnesses." You'll either be a good one or a bad
one, but you will be my witnesses. In Jerusalem, that's right here where you live. In Judea, that's like right over
there. In Samaria, those people that your mama told you weren't supposed to like,
you're even going to be a witness to those people. For me, that'd be Gainesville.
I do want to welcome our University of Florida outpost though. We love you cuz Jesus said we had to.
And to the very ends of the earth. This is what Jesus said to do. This is Matthew 28:19. Now, if you hear
28:19 and you're like, I've heard that before, it could be because there's this incredible church up in Atlanta led by a
friend of mine, Philip Anthony Mitchell, called 28:19. And God is doing amazing things through them, and Church of
11:22, we need to be in serious prayer for 28:19 Church. Here's why. Because they've experienced growth like we have
experienced growth, and they are out of room in their current facility, and they need different facilities. Our
experience with our city leaders and county leaders has been nothing but gracious here.
And up there, they're not having the same experience. And so, we need to pray like crazy that God makes a way cuz God
got his hand on what's going there. And you need to hear this, too. We are not the church that's jealous of or critical
of other churches. We celebrate everybody that's on team Jesus, and we want him to score pour out his spirit in
every gospel-preaching church everywhere. And so, he says this. Here's the Great
Commission. Ready? Therefore, well, what's the therefore there for? Well, it's really there for two reasons.
First of all, the reason the therefore is there for is because Jesus has all authority in heaven and on earth. And
he's the king, and he gives orders. He doesn't take a poll. He doesn't give suggestions. He doesn't
say, "If you feel like it, you may want to think about going to make another disciple." No, no, no. All authority in
heaven and on earth has been given to him. Therefore, he's going to tell us what to do. But secondly, the word
therefore and the word so that mean the same thing. So, just like God's command and blessing
to Abraham, I'm going to bless you so that every family will be blessed through you, Jesus is
saying, "I have lived, I have died, I have been resurrected. Therefore, you are going to be the fulfillment of the
blessing that God gave to Abraham. So, therefore, go." Now,
the only imperative in this sentence, this means like you have to do something,
is the word make disciples. When it says go, it's more like as you were on the go or wherever you go.
And in fact, so wherever you go and as you're on the go, make disciples. Some of your neighbors to nations are
going to be filled are going to be called to full-time missions and you're going to go to the Congo.
And some of you are going to go back to Carlile. Both of these are very dangerous.
Carlile, way more dangerous. So wherever you are, we are called to do the next thing, make disciples.
This is God's purpose for your life. The moment we get rescued, we become a part of the rescue team. We're supposed to
make disciples. Not just converts, but followers of Jesus.
Make disciples. Now, here's the thing. You have to be one to make one.
That in the first century when Jesus called his disciples, when you followed after a rabbi, you did not just learn
the things that they learned. You see, a lot of times when churches talk about discipleship, it because of the western
way that we think, we'll use like teacher-student kind of language and it's kind of that, it's not totally
that. Because in the teacher-student relationship, the role of the teacher is
to just give you all the information that the teacher has. But in this But with Jesus as your lord, the disciple
doesn't just learn everything that you know, but we are supposed to become who he is.
I mean, think about it. When Jesus called the first disciples, he didn't say, "Come and follow me and I'll teach
you all the things I know." He said, "Follow me and I will make you fishers of men."
In fact, there was this phrase that the first century rabbis would use, if you became somebody's disciple, they would
say this, "May you be covered in the dust of your rabbi."
In other words, you were going to follow in the footsteps of your rabbi to the point where you were covered in his
dust. And you believe not only can I know what you know, but I am to become like who you are.
So, if you do miracles, I'm going to do miracles. If you forgive, I'm going to forgive. If somebody reviles, says nasty
things against you, and you don't respond, I'm not going to. I'm going to become who you are.
And the reality is this, man. Is it if you're a follower of Jesus, then you have to continually take steps
of obedience in the direction of the good shepherd. And nobody stops. We don't have
stander-arounders of Jesus. We have followers of Jesus. And if you're like, well, I what's what
what do I do? I got really good news. Go to the website, and we have a thing called the
discipleship journey, and all of that is created simply for you to help figure out what your next step of obedience is.
Or you're in the you're in the right time, man. Pages 9 through 45 are are all kinds of
opportunities for you to start praying like crazy and saying, all right, Lord, what is my next step of obedience? And
you don't have to do everything. Nobody can do everything, but every single one of us are called to do
something. So, what is your next step? We don't have spectators. We have
followers. And we don't merely have fans of Jesus. We have followers.
The Great Commission is not get big crowds, it's make disciples. It's not even make converts. It's to make
disciples. And so, here's the thing, man. We are to be followers, not simply fans
of Jesus. Listen, I'm a die-hard fan of two football teams, okay?
And 2 weeks ago, I had the single greatest football weekend of my entire life. Two weekends ago.
Florida lost to South Carolina. I was so happy. I was so happy, Okay? You ever been to South
Carolina, guy? There's one. Okay? And then Georgia beat Alabama and God blinded the referees. They
couldn't even see the pass interference to make sure we won. Praise God. I don't want fair. I want to win. I don't care.
And then the mighty Jaguars have the ball with 8 seconds left and we return it and they kick a million mile field
goal to defeat the Eagles in London. Praise God, dude. I'm so pumped. And then 1 week later
I have the worst football weekend that you can imagine. Florida beats Texas
bad. Now, I don't like Texas, either, but and then Georgia loses to Auburn?
>> [cheering] >> That's a basketball school. I didn't even know they still played football.
And then the Jags get beat by the Texans and both of my teams lose in a last second field goal.
Now, here's the thing. I love I love football probably too much. Whatever.
Judge me. But guess what happens? While I was probably too emotionally
invested during the game, you know, and I don't let anybody watch it with me for the sake of my witness,
the wins 2 weeks ago and the losses this weekend impacted my life
zero. Absolutely zero. I've avoided sports sports center all
week cuz I don't want to see the highlights, but other than that, zero. Do you get it?
I'm the same dad. I'm the same friend. I'm the same pastor. I'm the same husband. I'm the same follower of Jesus.
I'm a big fan of these teams, like crazy, and yet what they did on the field have no impact on my life.
Here's what scares me. I think in churches all over America, we got a bunch of fans.
And you show up to the game and you love it. Sing the songs and you raise your hand
and you feel the feels. Oh, you feel the feels. And the problem is we don't need fans of Jesus, we need followers of
Jesus. That when you get run over by the grace train, it changes everything about everything about everything. My whole
life is different because I followed in the dust in the steps of my rabbi.
And so he says, "Make disciples." First, you got to be one. You're constantly taking steps of
obedience. Secondly, he says you got to make one. And actually it's plural. So you got to make more than one.
So let me ask you this. Are you making any disciples? This is the Great Commission.
I feel like this is one of the most ignored things in all of the Bible and it's the main one.
That after you believe in Jesus, then you get to work. The moment you get rescued, you become a part of the rescue
team. And it doesn't mean that you just wait on the church to make all the disciples and then you just show up. No,
no, no. We are called to disciple people. It starts with our one mores praying
like crazy, sharing the gospel with them, inviting them. And then it means to pour your life into
somebody. To say, "Hey, this is the way Paul says it." This is a crazy verse if you think
about it. I dare you to pray this. It's 1 Corinthians 11:1. Paul says, "Follow me
as I follow Christ." Can you say that? Say, "Hey, I want to invite you into my
life and I'm going to follow after Jesus and you stay close cuz if you were in my footsteps, you'll be in his footsteps."
I mean, in in fact, can you really be one if you've never made one if the whole Great Commission
is to make disciples? Every single one of us have a significant role to play.
As you were on the go, wherever you go. If you're at home, it totally starts with your kids. You're the primary
discipling in your kids' life. Take that seriously. At work, at school, at church, wherever.
Therefore, church, as you are on the go, make disciples. Of who?
All nations. That word nation there is ethnos. Sound familiar?
It's where we get the word ethnicity. So, it doesn't just mean like every nation-state, it means all the peoples,
all the people groups. By the way, this is why the Church of 11:22 is a movement for all people to
discover and deepen a relationship with Jesus. Because this is the Great Commission.
And what the church is about, it's about unity, not uniformity. That we are distinct, for sure, but we
are not divided. We may have different heritages, but we have the same father, because he unites us all. In fact, where
this whole thing is is heading, if you go to the Book of Revelation, chapter 7, this is what heaven looks like. Listen
to this. Revelation 7:9 says, "And after this, I looked and behold, a great multitude
that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne
and before the lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice,
'Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne and to the lamb.'" The God's point and purpose is to call
all different kind of people, every tribe, every tongue, every nation. We're still distinct in heaven, and yet, we
are not divided. We are all united under the lamb. Now, here's what happens, man. Um liberal theologians, also known as
lost people, they will say, "Well, everybody's going to be in heaven, but Jesus isn't the way. All the roads lead
there." Well, that's the problem with that is the words of Jesus. Jesus says, "I am the way, the truth,
the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." Now, there's this weird little kind of
I hate the left and right thing, but there's There's people,
it's always guys. And they're they would call themselves conservative and they are teaching this
weird thing now. And they say, "Yeah, Jesus is the only way for everyone, but until we get there, we should all be
separate here." Nope. That is antithetical to the scriptures.
Remember the whole year we've been focused on this, "Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." When Jesus taught
us to pray, what did he teach us to pray? He said, "On earth as it is in heaven." That a part of what our job is,
and especially at the church, it ought to look way more like Revelation 7 than like the rest of this world does. That
we are to take the good news of this gospel and make disciples of every ethnicity, every tribe, every tongue,
every nation. And then, the next word, "and baptizing them
in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit." And I don't know if you paid attention, but we've been
baptizing some people. You know why we've been baptizing people? Cuz it's the Great Commission.
It's literally what the king told us to do. Last week, 276 people got baptized.
Praise God. At Saturated, 911 people got baptized. Praise God.
Beach Baptism, 2,552 people got baptized. So far in 2026, 5,390
people have gone public with their faith and get baptized. >> [applause]
>> And you should celebrate. Now, here's the blowback. Here's what I get pushed back on. Every time we
celebrate, we tell people, and here's how many people we baptized. Somebody's like, "It's all about the numbers."
If you got baptized this year, would you raise your hand as high as you can, please?
>> [cheering] [applause] >> All right, you right here. What's your
name? >> Jeremiah Thompson. >> Jeremiah. That's a good stand up
Jeremiah. Stand up. >> [cheering] >> Guys, this is Jeremiah.
>> [applause] >> Jeremiah, in the last 14 years, we have spent tens of millions of dollars
to create facilities in which the church could meet, where we could declare the gospel, and we could worship Jesus.
We've sent out hundreds of missionaries, thousands of short-term missionaries. We have preached the gospel, we have
created worship environments. And if the only thing that happened in the last 14 years was you came to
Christ, and you went public with your faith, it would be worth every penny. Church of 11:22, would you celebrate
Jeremiah being baptized this year? Thank you, brother. Praise God.
Now, there's 500 200 5,289 other people just like him that went public with their faith this
year. Why do we make a big deal about it? Cuz Jesus made a big deal about it. He says, "Baptizing them in the name of
the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit." And then he keeps going, "Teaching them to observe." That word
literally means obey. "Teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." That we're not just fans of Jesus, we're
not just converts of Jesus, we're not just putting our belief in Jesus so that we don't die and go to hell. No, no, no,
no, no, no. That we are followers of him. We do everything he has called us to do because he is our Lord.
In fact, if you look at him and say, "I don't care what you say, I do what I want."
Regardless what you believe, he's not your Lord. That's what Lord means. And is it hard to be a Christian?
Yeah. Yeah. And it's not our hard work that saves
us, it's Christ's finished work on the cross. Dallas Willard says this, listen man.
He says, "The gospel is not anti-effort. It's just anti-earning." That God demonstrated his love for us in
this, that while we were yet still sinners, Christ died for us. And then, when we put our faith in him, he fills
us with his Holy Spirit and empowers us to hear the voice of the good shepherd and march in the direction of obedience
of what the good shepherd is calling us to. And it's in that obedience that we get the abundant life. The abundant life
is not a prize at the end. The abundant life is him, and he has called us to walk in obedience to him. Teaching them
to obey everything I have commanded you. And this is in every area of your life.
Because he has all authority. This is why we teach the whole counsel of God and we apply it to the whole of our
life. Not just the parts that we like, but all of it, because God's ways are
better than our ways. This is not pick and choose. This is I surrender. And so, this is the Great Commission.
Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And then, right on
the heels of this, of the Great Commission, we get this great promise.
The King James will say, "And lo, I'm with you always to the end of the earth." Listen to
this. The God Jesus is saying, "I am when you're on mission for Jesus, I'm with you."
And not just with you like in the God is omnipresence kind of with you. I mean, Psalm 139 is like, "Where can you go
from his presence?" Wherever you go, he is, you know? Not that. Have you ever had that sense that God's really with
you? When you walk in obedience with him, man,
that's what you get. Jesus says, "I'm with you." And listen, this is what you've been looking and
longing for. It goes all the way back to the very first man, Adam. God creates everything.
He's like, "That's good, but I'm I'm going do better than good." And so, he he forms together the dust of the earth.
The Hebrew word for dust is Adamas, where we get the name Adam. And then the Bible says that he gets
nostril to nostril with Adam and breathes the ruah, the spirit or the breath of God, into Adam's nostrils. And
I think I think Genesis is being so particular because it wants us to know that God is
face-to-face with this one created in his image and he blows into him. And then Adam opens
his eyes and the very first thing the very first man sees is the face of God, his father.
And that's what we were created for. That's why the temporary things of this world will never fully and finally
satisfy. And Jesus said, "So go and make disciples. And I am with
you." And you may ask, "All right, so how am I
going to make go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit?" Well, I got really good news. Together as a church, we're stepping
into this, neighbors to nations. And as you leaf through all the things
that we're going to be doing as a church, you may look at it and be like, "All right, that's a lot." I get it,
man. There's a lot of us. And none of us can do it all, but every single one of us have been called to do
something. And we're going to love our neighbors. C.T. Studd, this old dead missionary
with the coolest missionary name in the history of missions, C.T. Studd. What a name.
He says, "The light that shines farthest shines brightest at home." And so, we're going to love our neighbors. That means
we're going to pray for our one mores, we're going to invite our one mores, we're going to launch more campuses.
We're going to triple down on care ministry. I tell our staff this all the time. Why in the world would God bring
us people that we can't disciple and take care of? And we're going to double down on our
student ministry, man, cuz what God is doing there is just amazing. I want you to read through this like crazy and be
praying saying, "Lord, what are you calling me to do?" And we're taking the gospel to the nations.
We're going to continue to plant churches particularly in areas where people don't have access to the gospel.
One of the things I'm most excited about is we are going to take care of the men and women who have put on that uniform
and stood on that wall for our freedom, be willing to lay down their lives so we can proclaim the gospel. We're going to
start a military ministry. >> [applause] >> And I don't have time to go all through
the things. And the reason that we're doing all this is for one name. And it's not my name.
I have a dumb name. Joby is a dumb name. People call it It's not normal. It's not common. People call
me Toby and Jody and Joey. And the meaning of it, you know what my name means? Afflicted.
Thanks, Dad. And it's not for our church name. We have a dumb church name.
It's dumb. I didn't know it was going to be a church. I just called it a service and then it Everybody started coming.
So, we just kept it, okay? It makes no sense outside of Jacksonville, does it? 11:22, like, what? That's what time the
first service started. I thought people'd be on their own time. I was wrong. You just show up when you want.
There is one name under heaven that is worthy of our worship and our lives, and his name is Jesus. And the reason we're
going to take the good news of the gospel to from every neighborhood to every nation is cuz of the one name told
us, "Therefore, go and make disciples of all peoples, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." And so, we are stepping into the biggest
thing we've ever done as a church. This is not just another season in the study of the Book of Matthew.
This is the next 2 and 1/2 years of the life of 11:22, and it'll shape everything that we have ever done. And
so, here's what I'm asking of you. I'm asking that every single 1122,
no matter what campus you attend, or if you knew or one of our correctional facilities, this is you,
too. If you're at an outpost, if you're watching online, it doesn't matter how you're connected,
but if you're part of 1122, I want every single one of us to go before the Lord. And you know, there's a difference
between just saying your prayers and praying. You know the difference, right? But to go before the Lord
and ask this question. God,
what is my role in your great commission in these three areas? In my giving,
and in my growing, and in my going. And in regards to your growing and your
going, this thing is going to help you a ton. It may be a next step in your
discipleship journey. Maybe you've been leading a disciple group forever or a a participating in one, it's time for you
to lead. We're going to prayer walk our neighborhoods. Maybe you'll take the lead on that. In your In your growing
and your going, this thing is going to help you a ton. And then there's also a financial piece
to this, for sure. And the reason is because I don't know how to disciple people without going after the number
one competitor for the human heart. So, if you open up to the very back, there is this commitment card. There's
nothing for you to do with it tonight. Except to get it out, look at it, and I need you to start praying over
this thing like crazy. And all the details of the resources needed and where they're going, it's in
this journal, so you can leaf through there and you can find all the details.
And I want every single one of us to start praying like crazy. God, what does it look like, if you're married, for me
and my family, if you're single, for me, what does it look like for me to be a part of your great
commission in regards to my giving. What does it look like for us to bring our first and best?
Gretchen and I are praying through this just like you are. And
>> [clears throat] >> on November 22nd is the Sunday, the 19th is the
Thursday. That'll be our commitment weekend where we're asking every single body person in our church
to take the next step of obedience in what Christ has called you to. To say, "All right, Lord. This is what I
think you're calling me to to be a part of your great commission in my giving, in my growing, and my going."
And I need [clears throat] you to pray like crazy. And here's the thing. I'm not going to
ask you to do anything. I'm going to tell you this is the direction our church is going and my
prayer is that you would just do whatever God tells you to do. And there's another significant date. On
November the 6th and 7th, we have what we call advanced commitment night. Uh November 6th is at our St. John's
campus and November 7th, we have two opportunities here at our San Pablo campus. I think one's at 11:22 and one's
at 5:22. And this is going to be for the leaders, for the people that say, "Hey, man, I'm all in.
I'm all in. I want to go first." Because over the next 5 weeks as we're praying, or it's really just like 3 weeks from
now, as we as we approach that date, when we get to that point, you'll you'll be able to say, "Hey, I want to go
first. I want to put my yes on the table and we know this is what it looks like for me and my family to bring our first
and best. I want you to be there. Because this
is what Christ has called us to do. That every single one of us should say, "God,
what does it look like in my life to be a part of your great commission in my giving, my growing,
and my going?" You're going to have to pray, pray, pray. John chapter 10, Jesus said this, "My
sheep hear my voice. The voice of a stranger they will not listen to."
It's going to take us several weeks of prayer and preaching and Bible study and disciple group and discover group and
all these things so you can tune out the noise of this world. There's a lot of noise.
And you could tune your ear to Jesus and ultimately just do what he tells you to do.
One of the questions I get asked all the time is this.
What's the greatest threat to 1122? Cuz it's been going real good
for 14 years. It's been going real good. And I think people anticipate me saying, "Well, it's something out there, some
kind of attack from out there." That is not the greatest greatest threat to 1122. In fact, the
church has always handled external attacks really well. I mean,
for the first 300 years the church flourished with the attack of the Roman Empire
trying to squish it and it just couldn't stop a move of God. In fact, you know where the great the
the fastest growing church in the world is right now? It's the underground church in Iran.
In fact, we'll be partnering over there taking the gospel to unreached people groups.
Now, the greatest threat is not out there. The greatest threat to 1122, to what God
wants to do in this place, is complacency. Cuz it's going so good.
And the moment a bunch of people are like, "Yeah, I mean, I used to serve. I used to give. I used to do this
kind of stuff, but if there's so many people here, sure surely somebody else will go and somebody else will grow and
somebody else will give. Surely somebody else will serve a military family and somebody else can help serve a local
school and somebody else can go on a mission trip and somebody else can be generous." The moment complacency sets
in, you do that for long enough and I'm just telling you, I mean, you read the warning to the
seven churches in the book of Revelation and it's not long before Jesus says here,
"I'll take my lampstand back." Because that behold I'm with you as we are on mission for him,
especially when it's scary, here's the promise he gives. And behold.
And Matt Carter taught this last week. First time I've ever heard this. This is incredible.
Most of the time, almost every time the word behold is used in the New Testament. That's not
a word we use that much anymore, right? Like I dare you to walk into work tomorrow and be like, "Behold." Like you
should bring it back. But every time, almost every time it's used in the Bible, when Jesus says
behold, there's almost always a miracle associated with it. Think about this. And Jesus says,
"Therefore, go, every single one of you, as you are on the go and make disciples
of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey
everything that I have commanded you. And behold." You know what that means?
Get ready for the miracle. The miracle he's going to do in you and the miracle he's going to do through
you. The miracle he's going to do in your neighborhood and the miracle that he is
going to do all over the nations for the one name that is worthy of the glory. And behold, I am with you always to the
end of the age. Can I just share this with you? You just got to trust me on this part.
When you hear the voice of the good shepherd ask you to step out in obedience, and
you're giving, you're going, you're going, and you say yes,
especially when you have no idea how you're going to pull this off. You have no idea what hangs in the
balance. You have no idea what hangs in the balance.
You have no idea that one more that you pray for and invite and they get saved, you have no idea that God might change a
generation through your one more. You have no idea what that one step of generosity is going to fund and fuel to
take the gospel to a place that's never heard it before. You have no idea. Trust me on this. My own personal experience
for me and Gretchen is back in 2012 when it made no sense for us to do this thing.
And we just put our yes on the table and we had no idea what God had in mind. And there is nothing special about us.
And behold, he will be with you always to the very end of the age.
And so the way we're going to close our time together is the same way we always close our time together.
You got some homework. You need to be studying this journal. You need to be praying like crazy, God, what are you
calling me to do? You need to be praying over this commitment card over the next several weeks.
And just do whatever he tells you to do. And so tonight when we pray, you should come pray.
You should come pray, Lord, I need to hear from you. And we're going to bring there's no
special off- We don't even take up an offering. We're going to bring our tithes and offerings like we always do.
Why? Cuz God is first and God loves first and God went first and he gave us his
[music] first and best in Jesus. And so as an act of worship, we seek first him and his kingdom
trusting that he'll take care of us. >> [music] >> It's an act of worship.
And we're going to sing. And we're going to sing the song. We've sung it a million times, but I love it
so much. It's called Let It Echo and it starts out this way, We've only scratched the surface. [music]
We've only scratched the surface. I mean, even though we've baptized over 5,000 people this year, what if the
thing God wants to do through us is even bigger than what he's been doing to us? We've only scratched the surface. Then
when you get to the main part, it says this, Let it echo from this city to the nation, [music]
the sound of praise. God is going to fulfill all of his promises that the good news of the
gospel is going to go to every tribe, tongue, [music] and nation. So, why not us? And why not here?
And why not now? Would you please stand and let me pray for you? Our good and gracious heavenly Father,
Jesus, you have all the authority. Not our bank account, not our insecurities, not our personality type,
you have all authority on heaven and on earth. And God, for every single one of us who
have surrendered our lives to you, may we not just hear, but heed this great
commission. Cuz God, what we want is we just want you.
We just want to be with you. We want that great promise, "And behold, I am with you to the very ends of the age."
God, I pray against the spirit of fear, confusion, or what abouts.
But God, may we just hear clearly the voice of the good shepherd [music] and do whatever it is that you have called
us to do. God, I pray for these next 5 weeks, Lord. I pray for an outpouring of your spirit.
That we would not be taken off track. We would fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and the perfecter of our faith.
And just like the disciples, you told them to go to Galilee and they did what you said and you met them on a
mountain. Lord, I just pray that you would we would do what you say.
And that you would be with us. We [music] pray it in Jesus' name. Amen. So, church, we bring,
we sing, when we get that let it echo part, we need to let it echo.
And we pray. Let's respond. >> We've only scratched the surface.
And only heard [singing] just one thing. We've [music] tasted of [singing] your glory.

We're satisfied [music and singing] but desperate for even more
of you. We [music] want more [singing] of you, Lord. Let it

Commit to all five weeks of the series, join a disciple group or a Discover Group (starting Oct 26), and get the discipleship guide. Read it, pray through it, and ask God: 'What is my role in the Great Commission through my giving, my growing, and my going?'
The sermon declares that Jesus has absolute authority over your body, your bedroom, your bank account, angels and demons, life, death, and eternity. Because He holds this authority by right (as God the Son) and by resume (perfect life, fulfilled prophecy, victory over death), the Great Commission is a command, not a suggestion, for every area of your life.
It is a two-year, church-wide focus on fulfilling the Great Commission in Matthew 28, beginning with a five-week sermon series. The journey involves personal discipleship, community outreach, and global missions, with resources like a discipleship guide and small groups to help participants discover their role in making disciples from their neighbors to the nations.
The only imperative (command) is 'make disciples,' not 'go.' The word 'go' is better understood as 'as you are going'—implying discipleship is a lifestyle, not a one-time trip. To make a disciple, you must first be a disciple, following Jesus so closely that others 'become covered in the dust of your rabbi.'
The church celebrated 276 baptisms the previous weekend, where individuals publicly declared Jesus as Lord and Savior. This event is described as a powerful moment of celebrating resurrection life, serving as a launching point for the Neighbors to Nations discipleship journey.
The sermon notes that even in the presence of the resurrected Jesus, some disciples worshipped while others doubted. The key insight is that evidence alone does not produce worship—only when your heart is seized by a greater affection and your need exceeds your ego will you truly surrender. Doubt is not the opposite of faith; fear and ego are. You can follow Jesus even with unanswered questions.
- One Name: glorify God through worship/Word and make disciple-making disciples. 2) Neighbors: expand disciple groups from 900 to 2,500, plant campuses, and cover every neighborhood. 3) Nations: plant 200 churches focused on unreached groups, deploy 15 more long-term missionaries, and continue partnerships like Compassion International and Bible translation.
