First you will listen to a short English
conversation.
Just relax and try to understand the
main idea.
Don't worry about every single word.
This will help you enjoy listening and
understanding natural English better.

Mom just called. She's bringing her
friends over in an hour for a small
visit.
>> Okay, so we can just clean up a bit.
>> Clean up? We need snacks, drinks. I have
nothing prepared.
I can't just make food off the cuff for
five people.

Look, we have crackers, cheese, and some
fruit.
That's a perfect snack plate.
We don't need to cook a big meal.
>> H I suppose we can put that together.
But what should we talk about? I get
nervous around mom's friends.

Now, let's learn some useful new words
from the conversation.
I'll explain the meaning of each word
and give you some easy examples.
Repeat after me and try to remember
them.
vocabulary

to say or do something without planning
or preparing.
Examples.
She gave a speech off the cuff.
He answered the question off the cuff.
you for your fantastic off-the- cuff
line.
>> Like, I don't know, off the cuff.

>> Play it by ear to decide what to do

Examples.

Thinking too much about something and
making it harder than it is.
Examples.
Don't overthink the problem. Just relax.

overthinks everything.
