hello skill boxers today we're breaking
down step-by-step the techniques and
strategies that led vasil lomachenko and
alander usk to dominate The Amateur
Boxing world and win Olympic
[Music]
gold getting the advantage through their
footwork working angles and favorable
positions using the lead hand to draw
opponents into mistakes and working the
clinch these are just some of the things
that led these two Ukrainian to the top
of the amateur
game both Fighters were trained by
lomachenko's father Anatoli which is why
their Styles resemble each other in many
ways they share several techniques that
have proven especially effective when
facing opponents with the opposite
stance today we will take a look at
exactly those techniques and strategies
that made their game so dominant and we
will also break them down step by step
so you can Implement them into your own
game but before we start the breakdown
we wanted to announce a collaboration
with our sponsor boxing timer Pro the
premier training platform designed for
coaches and future Champions the app now
has a dedicated Skiller section with a
growing collection of workouts Skiller
boxers can now train smarter and improve
faster download today and dominate the
opposition so let's start with the first
technique pre- slips
both a pre- slip is a preventive slip
done before a punch is thrown the main
benefit is keeping your head off the
center
[Music]
[Music]
line making you a harder
Target it's a key part of both l enko
and us6 Arsenal in this case as we are
analyzing Southpaw versus Orthodox
matches we are mainly speaking about the
pre-s slip to the outside or to the Lead
Foot there are many reasons why usyk and
Lama use
them as we mentioned it keeps them off
the center line and it also puts them in
position for other shots and footwork
moves so let's break down exactly how
they use
it they start off usually repeating the
pattern in the beginning of the round
mixing it up with other head movement
techniques but always getting back to
the pre- slip to the
outside if the opponent keeps reacting
to it they can analyze the reaction and
exploit an opening
Champion 20 seconds left on the 20
seconds left on the after some time the
opponent stops reacting to it and that's
when Lama and usix start to work
other than a skills contest yeah he's
trying to draw lenko in here the pre-
slip to the outside will position them
with the weight on their Lead Foot and
the head off the center line which opens
up the straight
left you'll see them repeat this pattern
over and over again pre- slip and
straight left
the right hand here Joe Joyce as he
throws that right hand the corner of
Center him get on what usek is looking
for just peering see as he's coming
forward Nick there's the right me
extremely fit got there's that speed
that you're just describing in the game
there's that speed that you're just
describing in this case they are in an
advantageous position where they are
safe and the opponent is
not after the straight left their whole
body is on the right side which works
perfectly to load the swivel
jab on the left lovely again maintaining
a favored position they remain on their
opponent's weak side and are able to
ride the movement of the straight left
adding another
punch the whole sequence would be repeat
the pre-s slip when the op stops
reacting to it pre-s slip straight left
swivel Jab
[Applause]
[Music]
fishing here
tonight contest yeah he's trying to draw
lomachenko in here let's not forget that
kaj have won the but this punch sequence
is not the only way they exploit the
pre-s slip they have more ways to use
the weak side angle and both Lama and
usk differ in
approaches but we'll see that in more
detail later on the video
level change
Lama when it comes to lomachenko he uses
pre- slips with level changes for
similar purposes the end goal is similar
to the pre-
slip in this case he will also repeat
the pattern changing levels until the
opponent stops reacting to it
into of that sou
stand range into mid and short very very
quickly out of that South po STS
then he will use the lowered position to
often throw to the body with the
straight
left oh to use his legs to push up and
throw to the
Head a second to
in these exchanges here to get his
[Music]
punch and there lenko oh and again he
had to get his punches off and there
lenko oh and again
lenko there it is
[Applause]
again while yusk also uses level changes
this is a much bigger part of L's game
on the other hand yusk also has other
resources he likes to use to set traps
for his opponents long guard trap
yusk while they both have a very solid
High guard which we'll explain more in
detail further in the video yusk uses
the long guard much more frequently for
different
purposes the main one is establishing
lead hand dominance he will often faint
punches circling hand positions and
putting traffic to assert dominance with
the
lead he will also use to block and Parry
any incoming
punches but his greatest asset is his
ability to draw opponents into traps
with the lead
hand he will use the long guard putting
traffic and bothering the opponent with
the
lead if the opponent doesn't engage he
keeps exploiting the long
guard if the opponent engages that's
when he draws them into a
trap Choice hasn't quite got the
technical skill both start probing with
the
lead once the opponent makes contact
with usix lead he shoots either with the
rear or the lead
itself with the Heat of the Moment as at
that moment the opponent's lead is
extended it is too late to get it back
to
cover that way yusk is able to land
clean
repeatedly is very gets to it
[Music]
exploiting the weak side
both when boxing the opposite stance
foot Position will be key to understand
where the advantage is in every
sequence U6 and L's game revolves
heavily in exploiting the weak side of
the opponent the weak side would be the
lead hand side and the strong side would
be the rearand side
the idea is to stay away from the rear
hand which is the strong side that is
also why they exploit the pre- slip to
the lead so
heavily but they also exploit the weak
Side by changing angles with their
footwork now they both have the same
idea but different
approaches lomachenko will often use the
front step Shuffle with the help of the
pre- slip as mentioned the PRP positions
the weight on the front
foot some sometimes he will take a
slight step forward with the outside
slip then he will Shuffle taking an
angle on the weak
side feet down so the skills he's got
the speed but he's hitting and he's
moving he's
keeping from that position he can
exploit that favored angle and land
combinations usually Upper Cuts and
hooks at this angle he can hit his
opponent but his opponent cannot hit
him on the
inside like we previously mentioned he
can blend the straight left while doing
the pre-s slip and then the shuffle
being the whole sequence pre- slip
straight left front step Shuffle
[Music]
in the case of yusk while he also uses
the front step Shuffle from time to time
he usually angles out with a pivot or a
side
step maybe a more defensive approach in
relation to lomachenko who likes to
exploit the angle while yusk uses it to
evade rearand shots and reset
[Applause]
as mentioned moving to that weak side
often leaves usk's opponents hitting air
while trying to land the
rear it's the first
round the first
[Music]
[Applause]
round another way youc gets an advantage
is by getting outside foot position to
the corner but he's really struggling
here and usk's stepped in again with the
foot on the outside the rear hand is
aligned with the opponent's
face yusk will usually use the lead hand
to put traffic then step to the outside
and land the rear while his opponent is
unable to land his
it is important to mention that while
the outside foot position has a lot of
advantages it does not mean you are
always safe as the inside foot position
has its own advantages and can be
exploited
too cork screw jab
both as mentioned the inside foot
position also offers plenty of openings
to
exploit while the outside foot position
aligns the rear the inside foot position
aligns the
lead so there are many shots that can be
thrown with the lead from the inside
foot
position it is important to mention that
you can throw any shots from any
position for example you can throw the
rear from the inside foot position too
but you will have the posture to land it
by taking the foot position into account
the punch is are already
aligned in this case when on the inside
position YK and Lama will often use the
cork screw
jab also known as cork screw uppercut or
longrange uppercut but in essence it is
a hybrid between a jab and an uppercut
but with the detail that the hand is in
a neutral
position that way it sneaks through a
high
guard the tendency to Parry and play
with the lead hand game against the
opposite stance makes for a perfect
setup of the cork screw jab from the
inside
position slows the feet down so bashof
as mentioned it can also be thrown from
the outside foot position but in those
cases they have to posture to land it
and the opponent's lead will get in the
way a lot of
times responsible High guard both
another Hallmark of their style is their
responsible High
guard while they maintain a high guard
they still remain agile and can
perfectly blend both their footwork and
head movement with the high
guarden he's movement he really I think
bashov you know is a little bit too low
so as he's coming what Joyce has got to
do now Nick he's double up the job and
he's an example of that
it often serves as a second line of
defense when a punch gets through the
first
line if an opponent's punch makes it
through their primary defenses the high
guard blocks it showcasing the
disciplined well-rounded style anaton
lomachenko instilled in
them clinch work
both lastly this is one of the most
underrated parts of their game and it
has served them well in their amateur
careers almost always getting the better
of the
exchanges the first rule which should
always be taken into account is to work
on the clinch it is as much part of the
fight as the fight
itself when on the clinch they get to
work instead of resting there confence
is just drained away from
[Applause]
if one hand is free they will use it
while the opponent rests combination of
the Ukrainian who let's not forget that
Kazakhstan have won the opening
bantamweight also when breaking the
clinch there is a brief moment where the
opponent thinks he is in a safe space
which lomachenko and yusk used to land
their punches another Italian win they
want but again smoothly yeah Mak it
looks seven points to six against the
best when the opponent tries to push
them down they use it to rip the body
with fast combinations at the
[Music]
momento holds his ground the posture
positions them already at a lower level
and as the opponent is pushing down the
sides are open to concentrate these last
15 both Lama and USC know it and will
exploit it whenever they get the chance
[Applause]
um you should then finish with that left
up to the ukraines they're strong in
every division this
[Music]
man bling left hand went in
[Applause]
from lomachenko also works on angles and
is especially good at breaking the
clinch whenever he wants to making him
one of the best if if not the best at
the
[Music]
clinch with a combined amateur record of
731 wins to just 16 losses and three
Olympic gold
medals lomachenko and yusk have
dominated the amateur scene thanks to
their refined and tactical style crafted
by Anatoli lomachenko
now that you know some of the secrets
behind their success it's time to
implement these techniques into your own
game but as always we would love to know
your opinion on the comments what other
techniques have you noticed in their
style let us know and if you like this
