Introduction to Counter Items in Deadlock
Counter items play a pivotal role in winning Deadlock matches by disrupting enemy strategies and enhancing your survivability. Choosing the right counter item, instead of rushing damage, can decisively turn tides especially during lane phases.
Early Game Counter Items
Rebuttal
- Enhances parrying by healing you for parried damage and reflecting that damage back to the attacker.
- Grants melee resistance, bonus health, and reduces parry cooldown by 2 seconds.
- Particularly effective against champions like Abrams who evade parry attempts.
- Highly impactful in lane; a single successful parry with Rebuttal often pays for the item's cost.
Rusted Barrel
- Provides 50 bonus health and increased sprint speed.
- Targets enemy to reduce their bullet fire rate and bullet resistance (32% reduction).
- Useful against gun-heavy lanes such as McGinnis and Hayes to mitigate their wave pressure.
Heal Bane
- Offers +7 spirit power and applies a 35% healing reduction to enemies hit by your spirit damage.
- Killing a hero under Heal Bane grants a large heal to you.
- Essential against champions with strong healing like Mo, Krill, and brawlers.
- One of the most effective healing reduction items for early and late game.
Reactive Barrier
- Provides 6% spirit resistance.
- Automatically restores stamina and grants a 340 barrier when stunned, chained, or immobilized.
- Especially valuable versus stunners like Abrams or Beebot to survive aggressive combos in lane.
Mid-Game Counter Items
Return Fire
- Grants 8% bullet resistance.
- Automatically retaliates with damage (50% bullet damage and 25% spirit damage) when attacked.
- Works best for tanky heroes against gun users but is generally outclassed by other counter items.
Spirit and Weapon Shielding
- Tier 2 options that reduce damage from spirit or weapon abilities.
- Best suited for early game mitigation if overwhelmed by specific damage types.
Mystic Slow and Suppressor
- Inflict movement speed and fire rate slow on enemies when they take spirit damage.
- Useful for heroes like 'Seven' to debuff multiple enemies passively.
Counter Spell
- The premier counter item offering 75 bonus health and 8 spirit power.
- Passive effect protects your next parry from all enemy ability and item damage.
- Negates every enemy ability and item on you including ultimates and major disables.
- Heals and grants movement speed after successful spell parry.
- Universally regarded as the best value counter item, capable of nullifying champions like Lash, Abrams, and Ivy. For deeper strategic insights, see Deadlock Macro Guide: Key Strategies for Winning Fights and Objectives.
Dispel Magic
- Provides 16% spirit resistance and an active to purge non-ultimate negative effects.
- Heals and boosts movement speed upon successful dispel.
- Purchase when specific debuffs are problematic but less favored since adjustments removed earlier benefits.
Debuff Reducer
- Reduces duration of negative effects on you by 25%.
- Useful generally but overshadowed by other defensive items.
Advanced Counter Items
Metal Skin
- 12% bullet resistance and active ability granting 5 seconds immunity to bullet damage.
- Movement speed and dash distance penalties apply during active duration.
- Excellent for tanks to negate burst gun damage. Learn more in Master Deadlock Itemization: Building Smart for Every Game Scenario.
Spirit and Bullet Resilience
- Grants 30% spirit or bullet resistance when below 50% health.
- Spirit resilience remains popular on tanky heroes; bullet resilience less effective due to Metal Skin.
Warp Stone
- Teleports you forward and grants 30% bullet resistance for 6 seconds.
- Highly effective for repositioning to avoid combos or ultimates (e.g., Abrams charge, Lash ult).
- Underrated and underutilized for its counterplay potential.
Disarming Hacks
- Upgrades from Rusted Barrel; gives 75 bonus health and moderate sprint speed.
- Active disarms enemy and reduces their bullet resistance.
- Useful for disabling key shooters but generally outshined by Curse for disarm purposes.
Knockdown
- Applies stone status that is especially effective on airborne targets by increasing stone duration.
- Provides 75 bonus health and 5% ability range.
- Ideal against flying heroes like Vindicta, Talent, and Celeste to control aerial combat.
Silence Wave
- Grants 50 bonus health.
- Active launches a long-range expanding projectile that deals damage and silences enemies hit.
- Damage scales well with spirit power, making it useful for heroes like Calico and Lash.
- Silence disables enemy abilities, facilitating easier engagements and team fight control.
Late Game Counter Items
Capacitor
- Weapon item with chance to shock and chain damage among enemies.
- Active deals damage, applies strong slow, prevents stamina usage, and silences movement-based abilities/items for 3 seconds.
- High cost; best suited for farming heroes like Seven, Hayes, Infernos needing crowd control.
Slowing Hex
- Applies -20% movement speed and -30% dash distance along with silencing movement-based abilities.
- Long cast range (25m) allows effective pinning, commonly bought by wardens or heroes with AoE control.
Spell Breaker
- Builds from Debuff Reducer.
- Passive provides 25% debuff resistance.
- Active suppresses negative status effects and grants immunity to stun, silence, sleep, root, and disarm.
- Vital for heroes relying on uninterrupted channeling like Lash and Seven.
Spirit Burn
- Increases ability range by 6% and deals significant spirit damage plus a damage-over-time burn.
- Burning enemies suffer 70% healing reduction, crippling heavy healers like Mo and Krill.
- Not effective against Victor who can purge debuffs; Curse is preferred there.
Cursed Relic
- The most disabling counter item aside from Counter Spell.
- Actively curses enemies, silencing, disarming, preventing item usage and removing non-ultimate buffs.
- Imposes 10% damage penalty on the user; best bought by supports.
- Long cooldown (~1 min) requiring strategic timing during team fights.
- Extremely effective against high-impact targets including Victor and dominant enemy carries.
Conclusion
Strategic purchasing of counter items in Deadlock can vastly improve your lane dominance, survivability, and team fight impact. From early lane control with Rebuttal and Heal Bane to late game suppression with Curse and Spell Breaker, understanding when and against whom to buy these items is key to outplaying your enemies and securing victory. Counter items are a massive part of winning Deadlock games, and I know for sure I am probably you have lost games
because we chose to rush a damage item when instead we really needed to buy counter spell. So, we're going to go
over all the counter items in the game today, what they do, and when you should be buying them and against who. So, the
first item on our list and the one that you're going to be seeing the most early on is Rebuttal. And Rebuttal is a parry
item that make basically makes parrying way more effective. On a successful parry against an enemy hero, heal
yourself for the damage parry and returns that damage to the target and temporarily gain increased damage. And
you already gain increased damage when you parry someone. So, this is on top of that. And the really big sneaky thing
here is that you're also going to get some some big buffs, the melee resist and the bonus health, but you're also
going to get minus two second parry cool down, which is really really helpful for when if you do have someone like Abrams
in your lane who's going to be evading your parry, who's going to try and heavy melee you and then look away so that you
stand there and parry. You can see how fast you can return your parry here.
You can hear me spamming it and how fast it comes back as opposed to if you sell Rebuttal, it's a four second cool down.
So, you cut it in half. See how long that spamming goes? That's crazy. So, it's a huge huge huge item
for you to buy in lane that's going to be the first time that you parry someone with this item. It It pays for itself
basically, the amount of damage that you're going to wind up doing to that person. Because if you parry someone
with Rebuttal, you're basically they It's really hard to not kill them because of it. And I was going to talk
about the green items first, but since that we're just talking about lane, let's go straight over to Rusted Barrel
here, which this one you're going to see much less frequently, but I actually think that this item is really really
good. Just Maybe not really really good, but good and people just don't buy it enough. You're going to get 50 bonus
health and half a meter per second of sprint speed. And you can target an enemy to reduce their fire rate and
bullet resistance. And so, this is really helpful for like I The real times that I find myself buying this item is
when you're in like those lanes where it's like McGinnis and Hayes and they can just keep shooting the minions. They
have so much lane pressure on you because they just can't shoot they can dispatch the waves so much faster than
you can. And I find this item being really really helpful and honestly just stopping them from like constantly
walking into tower with a wave. You can just put this item on them and it's going to have a 32 percent bullet fire
rate reduction and then they're also going to have their bullet resistance reduced cuz the one thing that gun
heroes have the weakness to especially in lane is that they need to present themselves to shoot you and then
you can shoot back. And so this is going to level the playing field a little bit more for you if you have trouble with
like those really kind of run you over gun lanes where just early those really fast fire rate heroes can really do
damage to those waves faster than someone like Abrams and Calico. Abrams The pro team throws me off. Abrams and
Calico can. And yeah, so those are the two big counter items that you're going to see
in lane. There are plenty of like healing items and things that you can get and you know, if you're taking a lot
of damage in lane, you should buy healing right? You should buy things like extra regen. Those aren't really
like counter items. Counter items to me are items that debuff the enemy or actually make it difficult for them to
play their game. Those are just helping those are just aiding you get back to playing your game kind of. But they're
absolutely items that you should be looking for in lane if you are if you're low HP, get healing right. It's that
simple. Then guys, we have heal bane which is one of the more counter item more common counter items rather that
you're going to see in the game mainly because of its just simplicity and effectiveness. So you're going to get
plus seven spirit power from this which is a great little boost to get to a item like this and then you're also going to
get as a passive your spirit damage is going to apply healing reduction. If an enemy hero dies under this effect, you
receive a large heal. You're going to see a lot of people rush this in lanes because of that healing. It's so big
early game and continues to be very very helpful into the late game. But the real thing here is the 35% healing reduction.
This is like one of the most effective and like one of the most bang for your buck maybe the biggest bang for your
buck healing reduction that you can get in this game. For heroes like Mo and Krill or even Abrams or just really
anybody that is going to be healing a lot. If you see this on the enemy team, this is where you really want to buy
heal bane because you're just going to make their life that much more difficult and you can do it really starting really
really early and you get a huge reward if you manage to kill somebody while they are heal bane. This is
one of the honestly I would be surprised if this isn't one of the most common items in the game. This is going to be
in a lot of builds just straight up not even in a counter section just along the way because you do get that heal on hero
kill. This is straight up one of the better items in the game. You probably know
about this one enough already. But, yeah, anytime that you have heal like a heavy healer on the enemy team or just
like brawlers which is honestly pretty much going to be every game but it's especially effective against those
heroes. You want to be getting heal bane. Then guys, moving on to reactive barrier.
This is actually one of the most situational but also in that situation it's one of the strongest counter items
in the game and it's it can be this can win you lanes just straight up this this item if you get into like an Abrams and
a B Bot lane or something like that where there's two heroes with a stun. Reactive barrier auto you get plus 6%
spirit resistance and you automatically restore one stamina and gain a barrier when you are movement locked, stunned,
chained, immobilized or slept. And it is a 340 default barrier that scales with spirit power. So, this item probably at
the end of the game you're probably not going to get nearly as much use out of it but very early on
this is going to make it basically impossible for an Abrams or a B Bot to kill you if they hook you under tower or
if they stun you into a wall because they're going to need to chunk through that barrier first and then if you get
hooked under tower you get that extra stamina to dodge out from underneath it. You're not going to get hooked under
tower with no stamina and no way to get out. Um and then you have this barrier for 10 seconds theoretically if you
don't churn through all of it. But if you're getting stunned and slept, you're probably going to wind up dipping into
your health at least a little bit. But 340 barrier, especially in lane, which is where you're going to see this most
effectively used is that's more damage than really any hero's going to be able to do on a
combo with you unless it's like Lash ults you into tower or something like that or Calico gets like her full combo
off on you. Um that's really going to mitigate. Like I want to the majority of pretty much any early game combo. And so
this item, you guys, can't stress it enough how useful it is if you're um running into an Abrams, a Beebop, I mean
Ivy, um not so much. But like those heroes that are going to pick you up and capture
you, um this is really really going to make their life difficult in the lane phase.
Then next up, guys, we got return fire, which you're going to get 8% bullet resistance with this and you're
automatically going to fire a bullet towards any attacker who damages you with their abilities or weapon. So this
recently got buffed. Now it does spirit damage return as well as uh bullet damage. And it returns 50% of the bullet
damage and 25% of the spirit damage. This is still obviously most effective against gun heroes. I do think though
that there really are still better options um to go with for counter items than for this one. This one's very tough
because um gun heroes can really easily kill themselves with it. Um if you are, like for example, a really tanky Abrams
and you see a Hayes that's, you know, not full HP that's really gunning it into you, you can activate return fire
and he's going to kill herself on this because she she she's taking the she's taking so
much damage that you already you already have more health than she can take damage from return fire. All that to
say, I'm not really sure, honestly, guys, where this one fits currently because I would rather go for, honestly,
something like metal skin or spell breaker before I would go for return fire. Um even though obviously those are
more expensive options, I do I think you just get more bang for your buck. I think that return fire um currently
unless you are just getting out you're a tanky hero that's getting melted by gun damage. I think that's where it's really
useful still. Um but outside of that I'm not sure where the use case for this is. Then
guys, a couple more that I'm not super keen on spirit shielding and weapon shielding. This is very similar to
return fire where I do think that there are just better items for this further down the tree. That said, I do think
that there there's a reason that these are tier two items. If you identify that you are just getting melted by a a a
spirit or a weapon hero early on, this can make your life very easily and really slow them down from snowballing
you guys and just you just feeding them. Um I would that that's kind of the
situation that I would get these in if you're like someone I don't know, like a Vindicata who's really having trouble
with like people just diving you or something like that. This is where that's going to help you just stop
feeding. Um but I would really only buy this item if it's an early game type of thing um where you're really identifying
that this is going to be someone who's going to be a problem later on. Then guys, I'm going to speed this up here
because we're going long already, but um I want to talk quick about mystic slow and suppressor which are two very
similar items. May or may not be counter items, but I mean it's my video, so I'm going to call them that. Um they they do
um movement slow and fire rate fire rate slow respectively whenever the target takes spirit damage. So, if I seven is
where I find super duper use out of these um but obviously anytime that you're taking spirit damage um if you
have someone who's being pretty oppressive, um this is just an easy way to add a little bit of something extra
to uh your abilities without really having to think about it. If there's a Celeste or a Mina, someone that's hard
to pin down, mystic slow might be an awesome option or for example a Hayes suppressor. Um seven is really where I
see these uh items really become super duper useful though cuz he could just put the balls out and debuff like a ton
of people on the enemy team. All righty guys, getting into the meat and potatoes here with counter spell, but before we
do, I actually want to say I am very excited to say that I'm going to be in the Deathy uh Death Slam content creator
tournament coming up on April 4th and 5th. So, I'm going to be streaming leading up to that. I'll be obviously
streaming when that is going out. Obviously, I am just so pumped to be just on
just in the just in awesome community environment with just I we our team did like a scream last night and we had a
ton of fun and it was super cool and our coach Parzalian said that Counter Spell is
basically the best item in the game bang for your buck, which I will say if you go back, I did say this, but I'm not
saying this now just because he told me this last night. I've been saying this. You can go back and see it, but I
completely agree with him in this. Counter Spell is just the best bang for your buck item in the game. You get 75
bonus health and eight eight spirit power. That's not what we're here for. We're here for the
passive. Your next parry protects you from all damage and effects of enemy abilities and items. On a successful
spell parry, heal and gain move speed and spirit. The way that Counter Spell works.
You you buy it and you when you parry, you'll notice that there's a different effect here. This purple effect with
like the shield and then I'll parry I think are cool downs on or off? No, they're
not. So, I'll parry a second time. Am I going crazy? Why do I
Why is Counter Spell got no cool down in here? Strange, but there's a long cool down for or not a
long cool down, but there's a 20-second cool down for Counter Spell. So, you can parry and that protects you from the
damage and effects of enemy abilities and items. And when it says enemy abilities and items, it means enemy
abilities and items. Every single ability and item that an enemy can cast on you in this game, you can Counter
Spell. If Ivy tries to stone form you, you can Counter Spell it. If Lash tries to ult you, you can Counter Spell it. If
Furnus tries to ult you, you can Counter Spell it. If Dormant tries to put you in the in
the [ __ ] Baroness, you can Counter Spell it. It does not matter. A Drifter ult, you
can Counter Spell it. Calico leaping slap, I could go on for every single ability because it works on every single
ability and item in the game without question. This is the best item in the game. You
can it really disable almost anything that your enemy is going to try and do to you with this. You can really be the
bane of certain heroes existence with this like Lash for example. Lash is probably the most heavily telegraphed
hero in the game. Abrams maybe is similar. But anytime you see the little Lash
clone pop up, you can counter spell and you does you're going to negate all that damage and heal a little
bit. You can do that for his old. You can it's hard for me to describe just how
good this item is guys because it is it just does everything that it says in the tool tip. Um and yeah, it's crazy. Buy
this item. It This item alone will win you games. Then guys we have Counter Spell's little brother, Dispel Magic,
recently renamed from Debuff Remover. There was a time where this was probably the best item in the game, but not
anymore. Counter Spell's really taken it over. Um with Dispel Magic you're going to get 16% spirit resistance and you're
going to purge all non-ultimate negative effects currently applied to you with its active ability. If any effects were
removed, you're going to heal yourself and gain a movement speed bonus. So, this um you really don't see this item
bought nearly as much anymore especially because now the debuff reduction is gone from that which actually I just realized
I completely forgot to mention Debuff Reducer. I completely skipped right past it. But Debuff Reducer, I'm a I'm a
bozo. Um reduces the duration of all negative effects that are applied to you. It's very simple. 25% debuff
resistance on this item. So, anytime that Abrams stuns you into the wall, that stun is going to last for 25% less
uh 25% shorter. Um Infernos hits you with his afterburn, the
duration on that afterburn is going to be 25% shorter. It's it's a very simple item. Um what it builds into, we'll talk
about that later. Um but its big brother no longer it used to build into um dispel magic. It no
longer does that, and that's a huge kind of nerf to this item. You really only see this item now bought when there are
specific non-ultimate debuffs that are really really causing issues um in your lobby. So, like for example, if Infernus
is really causing a problem for you, I don't think that this item is honestly the greatest against him because he can
just proc it back onto you. Um, but that would be like a example uh of where you could where you
could use this. Paradox damage amp would be another one. I I I honestly I really don't like that
they took away um the debuff reduction on this item cuz now it feels like spell breaker is just super overpowered, but
we will talk about that spell breaker in a little bit. Because the next one uh on our docket is
metal skin, which this one is this is the bullet item that I would go with if you're having trouble with gun heroes.
And particularly if you are a tank um going up against a lot of gun heroes, I think that this item alone will win you
games. Um, this item it's fantastic. You get 12% bullet resist and you become immune to bullets. It's straight up,
that simple. Um, you do get a meter and a half active move speed penalty and minus 20% dash distance for the 5-second
duration that it has. 5 seconds is a really long time to not take any gun damage, especially if you are playing a
tankier hero where you know there for example, right? Lash uses his slam, you know that Lash isn't going to slam you
again a second. You can metal skin up and then go face go stand in that Haze's face for a couple of seconds. Um, this
is a really really great item. I've been having a lot of fun with it on Victor recently. Um, yeah, it's it
These items honestly guys, the especially for metal skin, right? Just make you immune to bullets. Not a whole
ton to say here, but it is just so powerful how it's 100% bullet damage reduction for 5 seconds. Use that to
your use that to go stand in someone's face. And then guys, we do have the
resiliences here, which really these there was a meta there were or there was a meta. There was a time in the meta
where these were being bought by everyone pretty much every game back before the item shop rework, but not
anymore. And especially too since that we've had now so many cool counter items come into the game that are frankly just
better than these. You're going to get for bullet resistance, they behave very similarly.
You're going to get 30% spirit resist when you're below 50% health, you're going to gain additional bullet resist.
For a spirit resilience, it works the exact same way but with spirit. Um if there's one of these that you're going
to go for, it's going to be spirit resilience and you'll still see these you'll still see this build very
frequently on like tanky heroes. This is still like a very commonly bought item and it for a very good reason. It's a
very It's a very solid item and there it's the best way to get a just straight-up damage reduction from any
one type of source, right? That said, it doesn't really work that way for bullet resilience because an item like
metal skin resist item like metal skin exists rather. It's just bullet resilience is just so
outshined by metal skin in my opinion. I would almost never buy this item unless you are a very tanky hero that is just
going to be always taking a lot of gun damage. I would only buy this item on tanky heroes. I would always go for
something like metal skin or even weapon shielding over this item. I do not think you get very much value unless you are a
tanky hero out of this item. And so, yeah, I would stay away unless you're a tankier hero from both
of these and I would buy spirit resilience a lot on tanky heroes. I would not buy bullet
resilience a lot unless there it's a heavy gun comp that you're going up against because metal skin is honestly
just so much better. Then guys, another debatable item if whether or not it's a counter item, but I'm going to make the
case for it here. Warp stone. Warp stone, you're just going to teleport straight ahead gaining bullet
bullet resist. So, you're going to get 30% bullet resist for a few seconds after this for 6 seconds.
Length of a vine, shout out vine. Did it end with 6 or 7 seconds? I don't remember, but the point being that I
just want to show like this item is really, really good, guys. I really like it a lot Uh on Victor because you can
just stand in people's space. But, the big reason that this item is so good, obviously, yes, you can teleport. And
that's very useful for movement and other things. Like, I love being able to like just
warpstone straight up somewhere and then be able to climb onto something. That's awesome. But, what it's really useful
for is when you see Abrams charging at you and you can just warpstone through him so that he he can't charge you
anymore. Or when you see Lash ulting up somewhere and you warpstone out under some
under some cover. Or when Infernus is going is about to ult and you warpstone behind the
behind a block to behind some cover to block it. Dorman is
the one that I've gotten the most use out of recently is that Dorman when he's ulting you now because like he's just
got these this cool down is so fast. He's ulting you constantly, especially me on Victor. He's ulting me constantly.
I can use this for when he's standing there ready to just cart me then into his base. I stand there and wait and I
can just warpstone out instantly before the cart even gets to me. Um warpstone is a really, really useful
item and a lot of people buy it not for counter reasons, but it is so effective against so many abilities, especially
ultimate abilities in this game because ultimates in this game a lot of times are about being
they're about like your proximity to your enemy. And this allows you to break that proximity.
And so, yeah, warpstone I think is hugely effective and honestly really under bought item in this game. All
righty, guys. Now, moving on to disarming hacks. So, this item upgrades from rusted barrel and you're going to
get 75 bonus health and 0.8 m/s of sprint speed. Why the hell is that? Hey, man. I don't care that much. You
can give it 1 m/s of sprint speed. But, the active that you're going to get for this is the real counter. You're
going to disarm the enemy target and reduce bullet resist. It's got a really, really long cast range, which is
awesome. Um this item though, I again, this is another one that kind of has the struggle of there are better
ones to buy, particularly curse, which we'll talk about towards the end of the video. Um but this item, it's very
simple. You can just disarm people with it. I do think that this is still like it's still a very like it's still a very
useful item and I do think having it is very good because, for example, if you do wind up getting cursed later in the
game, this you can just put this on two people and then two people can't shoot. Um it's very straight up, very simple,
and just it's good in the right situation. I think that we'll talk about the reasons why in a little bit, but
curse is ultimately going to be a better item for you if you are looking at disarming somebody. Then we have I think
what a lot of people's first counter item that they learn about in this game,
knockdown. Just an absurdly fun item. I think that this is like one of those items that just like kind of gives the
game its soul a little bit. You put a giant anvil over someone's head and they just fall out of the sky. It's meant
it's meant to be used against flyers because you can you apply a stone after 2
seconds. Stone duration is increased against airborne targets. So, if they're in the air, that stone duration is going
to last longer. You're also going to get 75 bonus health and 5% ability range on this. So, a little bit of extra boon to
your ability range. So, yeah, take that and the stone duration is 0.5 seconds. I'm not sure if that's the on the ground
or in the air or in the air time. But regardless, even if it is on the ground, you can see,
which actually I mean I can just tell here. Probably. I mean maybe maybe it's a
little bit shorter than half a second, but even still, that's a long enough stone for you to be able to get on top
of someone for you to be able to use your next ability on someone. So, this is a great item for just in general.
Like Dorman, you'll see a lot of Dorman start buying this to help them set up the cart just because that that extra
not even half second that they get when they're on the ground. It's just just enough to get the next card going for
them. Yeah, so this item I mean this is like the vindicta counter item, the talent counter item. It's Those are
really the ones that you're going to be using on it like crazy. Celeste is awesome on her as well.
Um anytime that you have a hero that's just flying around, flying above you, high flying, like just moving, um and
you can't catch up to them, this is an awesome item to catch them with, honestly. Um you can
really easily, like for example, catch Celeste out with this item when she's like bouncing around in the middle of
her team. Just throw a knockdown on her and then all of a sudden she's just knocks down in the middle of your team.
Then guys, we got silence wave, which this actually got to like some of my favorite art in the game for like an
item. I just I don't know why. Like ever since I saw this one, I was like, "Oh, this is just badass." I remember in May
when this actually when the leaks for this came out. It's crazy. So, silence wave, you're going to get 50
bonus health and the active is you're going to launch an expanding projectile with silence. It silences enemies for a
short duration and deals impact damage. So, you're going to do a little bit of damage here, 100, which is significantly
more than it used to do. I think it only used to do like 40, so 100 damage is enough for it to be significant. Um
that's enough to add it into your combo. And then, um it's got a very long distance as
well. So, um you're going to I mean I think that it goes even maybe the length of this room.
Yeah, you can see it reaches all the way there and I I didn't realize that if you hold it, um
it you can actually see the first split second there how far it'll actually go.
And yeah, so it's an expanding projectile that is going to do damage and then silence them. So, if you're a
hero that a lot of the people buying this item are like Calico and Lash because it used
to give you a spirit it used to do a spirit resist shred as well. But now, it just does the silence, which is a
fantastic stack that still scales with spirit power. So, if you are a Calico, if you
are Lash, this is where you're going to be seeing it because eventually, I mean, let's just get boundless spirit just to
see what happens here. Just with boundless spirit, right? Which a hero like Infernos is going to buy,
um, you're getting 201 damage just off this, which is crazy. So, that's enough to add it to your, um, add it to you
your combo and then, I mean, you're going you obviously you get this giant silence on that as well.
Um, and then the other thing that's worth noting about this is that you can hit multiple targets. Um, if there were
a lawyer and enemy Infernos standing there, you could hit two of them. Um, you can hit as many people as are in the
line that get hit by this. It It penetrates. And yeah, so like because of the ease of use on this one, it's there
are honestly like anytime that you need to silence someone, this is just the item to go for because it is just so
easy. All you got to do I mean, you can do it in half second and just look away.
And, you know, if you You saw that. Yeah, first try. Um, but you know, it's the best way to
silence someone in this game. That's easiest way to do it. And then guys, we've got our if if tier three were the
meat and potatoes, we're headed into the dessert here with our tier fours. Um, we're going to start with the our only
weapon item that we're going to talk about today. Uh, capacitor, which is a pretty complicated item, but fear not.
There's a lot of text here, but it's actually kind of straightforward. Um, so your bullets This is mainly the Tesla
bullets passive here and increased an increased version. So, your bullets are going to have a chance to shock your
target. The shock is going to jump to a nearby enemy. So, you can think of this, you're just doing a little bit of extra
damage with your bullets and then that's going to bounce to a nearby enemy. So, it helps you farm up quite a bit. Um,
then the active is this is where the counter item really comes in here. So, you're going to launch a projectile that
deals damage, applies a strong slow that recovers over time, prevents stamina usage, and silences their movement based
items and abilities. So, I just realized I forgot another one that we'll talk about in a second,
slowing hacks. Um, Um I can't believe I I literally I went through and like I wrote down a list of like do I not have
it on here? Did I just skip it? I must have just accidentally I must have just accidentally not written it down cuz I
literally I went through the whatever. Um capacitor going to prevent stamina usage and silence their movement based
items and abilities. So um this is incredibly incredibly effective against brawler type heroes um
who are going to try and like get in and get out your Celestia Calicos um because you are going to be silencing them,
slowing them, um and just really preventing them from actually getting away. Um it it
you get three you get three seconds of you can't use stamina either. Like just think about how debilitating that is.
And also just to show you um the projectile this moves like very fast. Um it's almost instant not quite but it's
almost instant so it's like if you're looking at it you basically just aim it like it's your gun. Um and you're you
can see how long those down arrows are on them for. That he can't use stamina or do anything
to get away during that time. So this is a huge debuff. That said though, you're really only going to buy this if you are
a really farming heavy hero because the barrier to entry on this one is kind of so crazy because it is a weapon item
ultimately. Um and then the test it's a lot of it's a lot to invest in someone not really
being able to move and it's because you're getting this Tesla bullets investment going up to it that farming
ability that you're get that this costs 6K. Um and it's going to be
mainly your your Seven, your Hayes, your Infernos who's going to be buying this item. It's not you're not going to buy
this item on Calico because there is a Celest that's causing problems for you. Um that's where you're going to be
buying silence wave or something like that. And then guys, to go back to I mean an
item that I can't believe that I skipped, honestly. Um Slowing Hex, slows movement for an enemy target, also
silences their movement-based abilities and items. So, a little bit of what we just talked about in Capacitor there. Um
minus 20% move speed, minus 30% dash distance, and this is a 25 m cast range. So, this guys is a super duper duper
effective um ability for just pinning someone down, especially in lane. Um wardens, you see this buy this uh it
kind of goes back and forth in the meta on whether or not you see them buy this to help keep you inside of their um
keep them inside of their in the radius of the cage. Um there aren't really a ton of instances that you really see
people buying Slowing Hex itself these days, um mainly because like we've talked about, there are so many great
counter items that really inhibit people's ability to play the game even more than this, but this is a super
effective item for people who have kind of like AoE um type of abilities, and you'll see people like Doorman, like
Page buy this um because they're going to get Vortex Web later on. Strong then studio, I mean
literally right now sends me a it literally as I'm recording this sends me a message.
New idea for a video. Guide on which item does in the shop and who should buy it. Brother.
I'm so far ahead of you. And by so far ahead of you, I mean 40 minutes and four, five, six, seven seconds.
Now guys, really getting into the dessert like chocolate double fudge cake here. Um we are heading into our greens.
Um and we're going to our the first one, this is probably one of the best items in the game. Even this Infernal build
that I've just got queued up as is talking about it. Um this item is insanely good. You get 18% spirit
resist, a 25% debuff resist from debuff reducer. You meant I mentioned earlier that in no
debuff reducer no longer builds out of dispel magic and now builds out of it builds into spell breaker. This is where
you're getting that 25% debuff resist from from debuff reducer. The next Here's the passive that everyone buys it
for. The next instance of high spirit damage you take is significantly reduced and you get a 65% spirit damage
reduction and it's 175 damage threshold which means that every 9 seconds if Lash slams you, if Calico slashes you, if In
Furnace doesn't actually have an ability that's going to do that much damage to you just
off off rip. If I I think of your come up with your favorite burst hero
doing 175 damage to you off rip, this is just going to straight up do take 65% of that damage away.
There are There isn't a single other ability in the game that does something quite like that. This is really going to
disable properly disable late game like the spirit the spirit heroes that are running the
mid game. If there's a Lash or a Calico, I mean those are the two that are in my head cuz I play them all the time, but
if there those two types are just running into you running you down, Mina same type of difference, this is what's
going to stop them from actually continuing that into the late game if they don't counter item it the counter
itemize themselves. This item is one of the biggest damage reductions that you can get in the game. It's the closest
thing to metal skin that there is for spirit. There are honestly honest to god there
are not many heroes that every single hero can buy this item um and honestly I'm wondering if there's a
single hero bad buy on. I mean like Vindicator or Mina or something like that, but like you know
what I mean. Like this may be one of the second two counter spell every almost
everyone's going to get some value out of this item. And then you're presented with a choice if you do buy debuff
reducer because there's a second thing that it does build out of and it is unstoppable or build into rather. You're
also going to get the 25% debuff resist and the 125 bonus health from debuff reducer, but your active ability is
going to temporarily suppress negative status effects and become immune to stun, silence, sleep, root, and disarm.
Cannot be used while stunned or slept. So guys, this item this is a very straightforward one as well.
This item just makes you unstoppable. If you're for example a Lash who is getting hit with a knockdown, you can buy
unstoppable and knockdown will no longer have any effect on you while it's active. It is an active item, you do
need to activate it ahead of time. Sevens you're going to see buy this all the time because they are just a huge
target. And yeah, so if you have a really really big team fight old that you know that
the enemy is going to be looking to stop you or channel stop your channeling of it. Dynamos maybe a little bit.
Lash Lash and Seven are the real big ones because they're up in the air. Everyone can see them when they're doing
it. There's giant like the telegraph displays that I mean think of it is there a louder ability
in gaming than the Lash old? Like is there a louder like literally "Hey, I'm over here."
There I don't think there is one. And so those are the heroes that you're going
to be seeing buying unstoppable. The people that are if you're getting stunned while you are trying to do your
big abilities, this is where you're going to be buying this item. And then guys, we do have another item
that kind of walks both worlds here a little bit. We got spirit burn. A lot of people are buying spirit burn because of
the damage that you get and we'll talk about that. So you get six ability range 6% ability range rather and you deal sig
All righty, so we got another item that kind of walks between both worlds here and that's going to be spirit burn
because a lot of people do buy this item for the damage, but you get a really significant counter aspect to it as
well. You get 6% ability range which is nice, but you also get the passive which is dealing significant spirit damage to
an enemy within 5 seconds causes an explosion dealing damage and a burn to nearby enemies. While burning enemies
take damage over time and receive reduced healing. I might have you might have missed it at the very end receive
reduced healing and it's hidden at the very bottom of this item. Minus 70% healing reduction. That is the biggest
healing reduction that you can get in this game. That is ridiculous. That that makes it incredibly difficult for them
to heal at all nonetheless if there's someone who is like mowing krill for example really really dependent on that
healing. This is a hard counter item to those heroes that just can heal like crazy. This is not a counter item to
Victor because Victor purges this debuff. You need to buy curse to counter Victor. We'll talk about that in a
second. You deal 500 damage. You deal an extra 110 explosion damage and then you're going to do 29 DPS of burn
damage. And so you are just going to do a ton of just This is really what puts spirit heroes just really over the top
really makes them difficult to fight against if they are uh just doing crazy crazy crazy damage with this spirit
burn. And then nonetheless if you can't one v one them because you have so much healing reduction. Nonetheless if you
can't one v one them because you've got so much healing reduction. This is a fantastic item. If you are doing a ton
of spirit damage you should probably look to buy this item mainly honestly for the damage but keep
in mind guys that healing reduction and that if you are doing a ton of damage to if you are doing a ton of spirit damage
you can buy this and start really cutting back how much that enemy team is going to be effective in team fights.
This is such a great item and because because of the last two words in the tool tip
spirit burn rips. And then guys finally cursed relic this is the counter item. This is the best counter item in the
game just straight up actually no pardon me counter spell is but this is like the most disabling
counter item. This is like the [ __ ] you item. If there is someone in your game who is running the lobby who you guys
just cannot deal with every time that they show up to a fight your team gets wiped or if you just particularly don't
want to play against a hero, you can buy curse. And when you are cursed, you it curses an enemy. So, also, one thing too
to note for buying this item is that you do take a 10% damage penalty. So, it's preferable for supports to buy this
item. If your team has got their thumb in their mouth and in other places, you can buy this item, too. But, preferably
a support does if you're preferably a support instead of the carries do. Um but, the the active in it
curses the enemy interrupting, silencing, disarming, and preventing item usage. Removes all non-ultimate
buffs. So, you can use this in the middle, kind of like knock down, in the middle of someone's ult, it's going to
interrupt it. It's going to prevent them from it prevents stamina usage. I mean, it
does everything. No, it doesn't, but it feels like it does because that's how disabling this
item is when you get hit by it. You can't You can't You can't shoot anyone. You can't use any of your abilities. You
can't use any It removes all your buffs. It This thing, I mean, for free, basically. I mean, look how far away you
can be. Be cursed. And then, that's all you have to do. You don't even need to You don't even need to be looking at
this guy, really, to actually hit it. Like, you just got to be pointing in that direction.
Be cursed. I mean, look at how How cursed You You cursed Look how easy it is. Just as I'm gliding by to just
hit to hit him with that curse. And I mean, that is the most disabling thing in the world. This is the Victor uh
disable item, by the way, guys, because Victor is a hero that likes to get in the middle of your enemy team, and he
wants to stand in the middle of your enemy team. Um this item is going to completely You can just stomp him once
you have put curse on him. Um I would 100% look out for this item. It should be top of your mind on, frankly, every
single game because it's just that good. If you have any type of a hero, anybody, any any
Look at this hero roster. If any one of these [ __ ] is causing you problems, you go into that
item shop and you buy curse. I do not care who it is. I don't care if it's this magician. I don't care if it's his
ex-wife. I don't care if it's Lash. I don't care if it's Ramp. [ __ ] this guy. Buy curse and it ruin his day. Um you
it's that simple with this item, guys. It you don't need to do activate your brain at all. Just anytime that they are
in a bad position, toss this on them um and it you're you're going to make their day a living
hell. Um The one thing that's worth noting, it is a rather long cool down. It's almost a
minute. You're only going to be able to use this once in a team fight. So, make sure that you when you do use it, I said
you can turn your brain off cuz I'm trying to have a good time. You don't actually you can't actually because
these people they do need to be out of position for you to use it. So, you can't use it when they're not in the
fight yet because then you're just going to expend it yourself. So, but yeah, guys, that is the those are all the
counter items in Deadlock. Let me know what you guys like using these these on. I I mean, it's just so fun to
just like say screw you to some guy and just like completely completely I mean, just outplay the game cuz that's what's
happening when you're buying counter items. You are outplaying them. They're in the game for you to use and even
though it may be as simple as just buying an item, yeah, you're outplaying them. So, I hope that this this video is
helpful for some of you folks in outplaying your enemies and maybe teaching a thing or two to your buddies.
But, yeah, I hope you guys all have a great day and make sure to tune in for that that Death Realm content
tournament. That'll be really fun and yeah, I'll see you guys next time. Peace.
In the early game, items like Rebuttal, Rusted Barrel, Heal Bane, and Reactive Barrier are highly effective. Use Rebuttal to enhance parrying against melee champions like Abrams, Rusted Barrel to reduce bullet fire rate against gun-heavy lanes like McGinnis, Heal Bane to apply healing reduction versus healers such as Mo and Krill, and Reactive Barrier to survive combos from stunners like Beebot. Prioritize these items based on the enemy’s lane composition to gain lane dominance.
Counter Spell grants 75 bonus health and 8 spirit power, passively protecting your next parry from all enemy ability and item damage, including ultimates and major disables. Successfully parrying with it heals you and boosts movement speed, making it invaluable against champions like Lash and Abrams who rely on abilities. Its universal defensive utility and strong bonuses make it the top mid-game counter item for surviving critical enemy damage and disabling effects.
Advanced counter items such as Metal Skin provide 5 seconds of immunity to bullet damage, ideal for tanky heroes facing burst gun damage, though with movement penalties during its active duration. Warp Stone allows forward teleportation with temporary bullet resistance for repositioning away from combos or ultimates. Silence Wave silences enemy abilities, aiding in controlling team fights. These items excel at mitigating burst and interrupting enemy engagements effectively.
To counter heavy healing champions like Mo and Krill, prioritize Heal Bane in the early game to reduce enemy healing by 35% and gain a large heal on kill. In the late game, Spirit Burn deals damage-over-time and inflicts a 70% healing reduction, crippling enemy sustain. These counter items are essential for shutting down regenerative playstyles and turning fights in your favor.
Items like Debuff Reducer reduce the duration of negative effects by 25%, while Spell Breaker provides 25% debuff resistance and an active that suppresses negative status effects and grants immunity to important disables such as stun and silence. Dispel Magic actively purges non-ultimate debuffs and enhances movement speed and healing on use. Utilizing these items strategically improves survivability against crowd control and sustain fights.
Late game counter items such as Cursed Relic and Spell Breaker are crucial for controlling enemy carries and disabling key threats. Purchase Cursed Relic when needing to silence, disarm, and prevent item usage on high-impact enemies, especially in team fights; its long cooldown mandates careful timing. Spell Breaker is essential for heroes requiring uninterrupted channeling, providing immunity against multiple disables. Invest in these items as team fights become decisive and enemy threats intensify.
Mystic Slow and Suppressor slow enemy movement speed and fire rate upon taking spirit damage, useful for heroes who apply spirit damage passively to control fights. Rusted Barrel reduces bullet fire rate and bullet resistance by 32%, directly weakening gun-heavy champions and reducing their wave pressure. These debuff items strategically disrupt enemy damage output and mobility, granting you tactical advantages in engagements.
