Fact Check: The History and Legacy of Islamic Spain and Muslim Persecution
Generally Credible
16 verified, 2 misleading, 0 false, 1 unverifiable out of 19 claims analyzed
The video provides a comprehensive historical narrative of Islamic Spain (Al-Andalus), covering key events such as the Muslim conquest, Umayyad rule, cultural achievements, coexistence with Jews and Christians, and the Reconquista culminating in the fall of Granada in 1492. It accurately documents the subsequent persecution during the Spanish Inquisition, including forced conversions and suppression of Islamic practices. The legacy of Al-Andalus as a center of learning and tolerance is well-supported by historical research. Contemporary parallels drawn with events in India are confirmed by recent news but represent politicized topics deserving nuanced discussion. Some specific claims, such as the exact number of books burned or financial aid from Gaddafi, lack direct evidence or appear exaggerated. Overall, the video is a largely credible source on historical facts with minor issues of verification and occasional narrative framing. The content stresses the importance of historical awareness for Muslim identity and resilience.
Claims Analysis
Muslims ruled parts of the Iberian Peninsula for more than 700 years, never the entire peninsula.
Historical records confirm Muslim rule in parts of Iberia from 711 to 1492 CE, mostly southern and central regions, while northern parts remained under Christian rule.
Tariq ibn Ziyad landed in Gibraltar (Jabal Tariq) in 711 CE to begin the conquest of Iberia.
Historical consensus identifies Tariq ibn Ziyad's landing at Gibraltar as the start of the Muslim conquest of Iberia in 711 CE.
The Umayyad prince Abd al-Rahman I escaped the Abbasid massacre and established the Umayyad Emirate in Córdoba.
Historical accounts document Abd al-Rahman I fleeing to Iberia and founding the Umayyad Emirate of Córdoba after the Abbasid revolution.
Mosques like the Great Mosque of Córdoba still partly stand today despite attempts to convert them to churches.
The Great Mosque was partly preserved when converted to a cathedral; notable Islamic architecture remains.
Al-Andalus was a center of learning and culture, with Córdoba as one of the largest cities with extensive libraries and public facilities.
Córdoba in its peak had a large population, multiple libraries (estimated hundreds of thousands of manuscripts), and was a cultural center attracting scholars.
European scholars traveled to Islamic Spain to study Arabic and sciences for several centuries.
Medieval European scholarship was influenced significantly by translations and teachings from Andalusian centers; scholars like Robert of Ketton translated the Qur'an into Latin.
The Umayyad Caliphate of Córdoba was established in 929 CE by Abd al-Rahman III who declared himself Caliph.
Historical record states Abd al-Rahman III declared himself Caliph in 929 to assert independence from Abbasids and Fatimids.
Muslims governed Jews peacefully during the golden age of Al-Andalus and included Jewish officials such as Hasdai ibn Shaprut.
Historical consensus confirms relatively tolerant treatment and Jewish officialdom under Muslim rule; Hasdai ibn Shaprut notably served as a diplomat and physician.
The Nasrid dynasty ruled the Kingdom of Granada from 1250 to 1492 and built the Alhambra Palace.
Historical records confirm Nasrid rule of Granada and construction of Alhambra as a royal palace and fortress during this period.
The Catholic Monarchs Ferdinand and Isabella united Castile and Aragon through marriage and completed the Reconquista with the fall of Granada in 1492.
It is well-established that their marriage unified Spain and that Granada fell in 1492 marking the end of Muslim rule in Iberia.
Terms of capitulation at Granada guaranteed religious freedom to Muslims, but these were later revoked leading to forced conversions and persecution.
Historical documents record initial terms allowing Muslims religious freedom, but soon revoked leading to forced conversions and the Spanish Inquisition targeting Moriscos.
The Spanish Inquisition forced Muslims to eat pork, curse Muhammad, and abandon Islamic practices under threat of torture or death.
Historical accounts confirm Inquisition methods included coercion to abandon Islam, including forced desecration of Muslim customs, under severe penalties.
Islamic call to prayer (Adhan) ceased in Iberia for centuries after the Reconquista.
Muslim public worship was banned and mosques converted or destroyed, with call to prayer silenced until modern times.
Islam is reviving in Spain today, with new mosques built by converts and the Adhan being called again.
Reports and news confirm contemporary growth of Muslim communities, construction of mosques, including in areas like Granada.
Colonel Gaddafi financially supported the building of a mosque in Spain in the 1990s/2000s.
While some sources indicate Libyan support for Muslim communities abroad, specific verified documentation regarding Gaddafi funding mosques in Spain around this time is limited and anecdotal.
Approximately 1 million Muslim books were burned publicly in Granada after the Reconquista.
While there are historical mentions of book burnings by Catholic authorities, the exact scale of '1 million books' burned is not definitively documented and likely exaggerated.
Jews lived mostly under Muslim protection for over a thousand years before Zionism, enjoying a 'golden age' in Al-Andalus.
Historical research confirms Muslim-ruled Spain was a period of relative prosperity and cultural flowering for Jews; most Jews lived in Muslim domains prior to 20th century.
Indian Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb employed a significant number of Hindus and was not anti-Hindu as commonly portrayed.
While Aurangzeb employed Hindus in administration, his reign included controversial religious policies viewed by many historians as oppressive towards non-Muslims; the narrative is subject to ongoing scholarly debate.
Extremist Hindu mobs in India have recently persecuted Muslims, forcing them to say 'Jai Shri Ram' or face death.
Numerous news reports document communal violence in India involving forced religious slogans and attacks against Muslims by Hindu extremist groups.
They would tell the Muslims, "Bite on pig meat." And they would have to bite. And then they would ask them to curse
Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam. And they would have to do it. In India, you see all those
extremist Hindu mobs surrounding an elderly Muslim. They're slapping him. They're beating him. And they're saying
to him, "Say JJ Shirram or you die." So you have images of Muslims, men and women being rounded up, brought to a
fountain, being baptized by the Catholic priests. Alhamdulillah.
foram. Respected brothers and sisters, I am honored to be here today in Harlesfield
in this masjid masjid Iman. And the topic I have been given today is a very important, a very pressing topic,
a very relevant topic to our challenges today and at the same time a very emotionally
charged painful history to go through and you will see why what I mean by that.
The topic is when the minates when the minates went silent or when the minates became silent.
What does that actually mean? That means that there were aans being called from
multiple minitates in a place and that adan went quiet. It was no longer there. The sound of Allah Akbar, Allah Akbar,
Allah Akbar, Allah Akbar stopped coming from these minets. Nothing can be more painful for a Muslim
individually and even as a community. Nothing can be more painful for Muslims to not be able
to pray the salah, to not be able to hear the call to pray.
And this is exactly what happened in Alandalus. Alandaloo
today known as the Iberian Peninsula or Spain and Portugal put together. This territory was ruled by the Muslims
for more than 700 years. Muslims ruled the territory called Spain or parts of it for more than 700 years.
Never did the Muslims rule the entire Iberian Peninsula. There was always some part that was left
ungoverned or governed by Christians in the north. So how did this happen in the first
place? And why did the minerits in Alandaloo become silent? Why was the adan not heard anymore?
Why were the Muslims not praying anymore? Why were the Muslims not Muslims
anymore? So these are some of the lessons we will look into today. And I want you to brace
yourselves for a tour divorce through the history of Islamic Spain in a very short time. Books, volumes,
articles upon articles have been written on this very topic. It is another matter that most Muslims
unfortunately do not take much interest in their own history, let alone someone else's history. So we need to do some
introspection, some self assessment, looking inwardly. What are we actually doing as a
community to help our future or to nurture our future generations? What are we doing for them? If we're not
teaching them history, if we're not talking about history with them, then they don't know who the their heroes
are. They don't know who to look up to. They don't know what to admire. They don't know
what examples to follow. We start with the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam and our love for him
which is absolutely necessary for iman. The prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
said you will not believe you will not truly believe until I
belove more I become more beloved to you than your parents your children and all of mankind put together. So it is a
condition of Ian to love the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam. So much of our history starts with the
prophet and it ends with him. We don't teach our children what happened afterwards. What happened during the
Omayyad period? What did the Abbassads do for Islam? What happened during the Mughal period in India? What happened
after the Mughals? What is the history of Islam in the Indian subcontinent in the 19th
century? Most of us we come from the Indian subcontinent, right? majority of us here I'm assuming some may be from
the Arabian Peninsula others may be Kurdish some may be Persian some may be Egyptians who knows but respectively we
must teach the history of at least our regions to our children what how did Islam come to this region who brought
Islam to us how did we become Muslim because majority of us our ancestors were not Muslims someone brought Islam
to them. And how did Islam come to us? Who came knocking the door and someone in our line of ancestors
accepted Islam? And this is why you sit in the masid today. This is why Allah blessed you with the blessing of IM. The
greatest blessing, the greatest of Allah subhana tala upon a human being is im to to be able to believe in Allah
even that comes from Allah's permission. He knows best who deserves guidance. So how did this come to us?
We need to teach our children. If we don't, then
what goes around comes around. But if you don't know what goes around, how do you know what's coming around?
Malcolm X said, "If you want to use, abuse, and misuse a people, if you want to brutalize a people, if you want to
destroy a people, take away their history from them or take away their their awareness of their history from
them. And once you do that, you have control over them. You can feed them with anything and they will take it. A
man who stands for nothing will fall for anything. So he was right. Absolutely right. You
want to completely destroy your future, then take away the knowledge of the past
from your children. They will be nobodies. They will be nobodies. But if you teach
them history and you teach them correctly and you instill love for their
civilization in their hearts and minds, then they will replicate
all the virtues of the past and they will avoid all the vices of the past. They will be careful about their future
and they will realize how important it is to learn history. And today the Muslims
are facing so many challenges around the world. I believe one of the greatest challenges is ignorance of history. This
is why we are in the situation we are in today. We keep falling for the same traps.
And you will see when we when I go through the history of Alandalus, you will see how we are facing the same
challenges today right now. I mean we you will you will be crying about the Muslims Muslims of Alandaloo. Cry now
because it's happening right now. What happened in Alandaloos in Spain to Muslims is happening right now around
the world and we are not realizing because we live in relative harmony and peace in our little homes but on the
global scale when you have a bird's eye view of the world when you look downward from from from the top you see
you know when you when when a when a when a plane is flying right when you look down you see a bird's eye view of
the world. You see everything. You see the rivers, you see the forests, you see the mountains, you see the deserts,
right? But if you are in the desert, all you can see is sand because you don't have the view from the top. So that's
why you need to start looking at the world and at your history from the top and you
will see how what is happening today is exactly what happened in the past. That's why history is so important.
So our entire dean is based upon history. The Quran 30 to 40% is history.
Our sunnah is history. Hadith it means history. Okay?
Hadith these are all interchangeable words. Arden is history. If you don't know
history, you cannot be a good Muslim. Full stop. So, how about knowing the history of the world and the history of
your past, your own predecessors? So, how did the Muslims end up in Spain? Let's start with the topic. Having
explained how important history is for us to learn today so that we can see hopefully it's not being repeated. And
if it's being repeated, what do we do that our predecessors didn't do to stop catastrophes and oppression and stop the
minerets going silent? If we cannot spread the boundaries of Islam, if we if we're not doing dawa, if
we're not going out to spread Islam, at least don't lose territory. At least keep the territory you possess.
Don't lose it to your enemies. And this can mean ideological boundaries. This can mean theological
boundaries. This can mean geographical boundaries. This can mean anything. So sallahu alaihi wasallam was born in
the year 571. He preaches Islam when he was 40.
And for the next 23 years, Rasool Allah wasallam preached this message we know today as al-Islam, submission to Allah,
surrender to the creator. And the message came to him through the Quran which Allah the creator of the
heavens and the earth, God almighty who sent all the prophets sent this message to the prophet
sallallahu alaihi wasallam. Prophet Muhammad received the Quran and taught, preached, explained it to his followers.
Part of the message was the world has to benefit. If what I bring does not benefit the
world, if it doesn't bring peace and justice to the world, then what message?
Then what mercy? So Muhammad rasool Allah sallallah.aii wasallam came as a mercy for the words
and not only in word but in action. That was the point. If the Muslims today in the world do not manifest the mercy
of Islam in their actions in their behavior then you are not following the same Islam as followed by Muhammad
sallallahu alaihi wasallam and his followers. If
your existence, your presence does not bring benefit to people around you. If it doesn't make your environment
safer, if you are not the most intellectually sound
and the most educated people, the most civilized people, the most well- behaved people, then you are following a
different religion. Remember just coming to the masid, praying five times a day, fasting in the month of
Ramadan and going for Omrah every now and then is the is the basic.
These are the foundations as the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam said, right?
Ramadan. These are the foundations and most Muslims are living in the foundations. Have you ever seen anyone
they start building a house, they dig the foundations and they sit in the foundations with the family?
Are you listening to me? Have you ever lived in foundations of the house? Where do you live? You live
in the rooms. You you you enjoy the living room. You enjoy the kitchen, right?
Right? This is the house because you have built upon foundations. The prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam said Islam is
based upon these five foundations. So these are the basics. You build on this. You don't live in this. This is the
basic. Most Muslims are living in foundations. They're not building. What does building mean? Building means start
doing extra extra ibada of Allah subhana wa ta'ala. Start adding to the foundations. Start
building the walls, put the roof, okay? Make a house on top of the foundations. Right? This is why you have to go beyond
and change the world around you by your presence, by your good behavior, by showing the world that Islam is the
solution for all our problems. Islam is the truth. Islam is the way to success. Islam is the way to happiness in this
world and in the hereafter and you must show that by your actions and this is why the prophet sallallahu
alaihi wasallam came. So when he preached his message he taught his companions that this is why I came.
Allah sent me as a mercy for the worlds and this mercy is not just for your homes and for your deserts. It needs to
go out. And what did the Sahaba do? They went out to take this mercy to the world. But what happens? They found the
Romans and the Persians standing on the way. They are blocking them. In the west, they had Romans. In the
east, they had Persians blocking them. They were the wall of major giant massive armies. They had the excuse to
turn around and say we have we are madur we have an excuse that we cannot deal with these people look at us we are only
10,000 and they are 150,000 what are we going to do so go back no they said we're going to go through them so they
defeated the Romans and the Persians simultaneously they defeated two superpowers of the world militarily the
Romans and the Persians were the largest were the most effective were the most trained armies in the world and they
have become even more battleh hardened than they were before because they now fought
each other before the rise of Islam. So the Sahaba fight them and defeat them. Why? Because they wanted to bring
the justice and the mercy of Islam to the people of these lands. So this is why when he had a dialogue with Rustam
the Persian general Imbari he narrates this in his almuk the history of Imabi he narrates this
dialogue asks who was a sahhabi why are you here what
do you want camels goats money take it and go he said No, it's not about that. Yes, we are poor. We come from the
desert. But it's about removing you from the way. We want to bring your people from the worship of man to the worship
of the creator. This is about this is about worshiping Allah. And you are blocking us from reaching your people.
So either you surrender or we go through you. And we know what happened. The rest is history. The battle of Kadia and we
know what happened. So likewise the Muslims took all this land and territory and when the
non-Muslims of these territories realized what these Muslims are doing in lands
they are conquering. They are giving peace and justice. They are offering terms to Christians. For example, what
happened to the Christians of Najan? what happened to the Christians of Jerusalem
and what happened to the Christians of um much of Iraq and Syria because there are treaties documented.
There are treaties documented. We have documented treaties whereby the Muslims offered terms of peace to the
Christians that you may live peacefully, keep your religion, keep your churches, keep your bishops. We're not going to
interfere in your religion. As long as you don't attack us and don't cause disturbance, we will rule. You pay jiza
and you have peace. This is a separate topic. I've actually written a book on this topic which will
be soon published inshallah. The second edition or the extended edition uh is coming out with a lot of evidence in
this regard. the treaties between the Muslims and the Christians and others and how these treaties were practiced
effectively and what was the outcome. I put it down to a golden chain of events. It's a formula easy to remember. There
are four locks in this chain. Number one is the Quran. Number two, the justice that came from
the Quran. Number three, peace that came from the justice. And number four is progress that comes
from peace. So go backwards with me. No progress without no peace without and no justice without
the Quran. In the Muslim context, this is what we believe in. You cannot have justice without the Quran. Full stop.
Period. We don't care what civilization or what system or what governing system we're discussing. We believe as Muslims,
you cannot have justice without the Quran. Full stop. Period. Whether it's a Muslim country or a
non-Muslim country, you want to live in the best way possible on this planet, then apply the Quran, adopt the Quran as
your system and you will see what happens. Okay? We have shown it through our history and I will explain this in
very uh in due course in a bit a bit more detail. So moving forward and you will see why I'm telling you all
this inshallah. So the treaties are done. Muslims promise peace and then they deliver this
peace. Christians testify that the Muslims they live with us peacefully. They allow us freedoms that we did not
have before even under the Romans and the Persians and we have absolute freedom.
Similarly, Muslims went on taking land in North Africa, moving westwards. They took what we today call Algeria and
Morocco and Muslims remained there for the next 50 years. And then in the year 92 Hijri to be
precise according to the Gregorian calendar 711 CE when Wed bin Abdul Mik was the kaiff in Damascus the Umayyad
Kiff. Wid bin Abd Malik who was the kaiff in Damascus who ruled from 86 hijri to 96 hijri 10 years during his
reign in the year 92 hijri that corresponds to 711 CE Muslim generals or Muslim armies landed
in three different parts of the world far apart from each other. So in the extreme west, Tariq bin Zad lands in
Alandalus at a place called what?
Gibralar, also known as Jablot Tarik, right? The word Gibralar is a corrupted version of
the Arabic term Jablaric, the mountain of Tarik. So that's why it came to be known Gibralar, which is today British
territory. Did you know that Gibraltar is British territory today? It's a rock where Darbik bin Zad landed with his
army. Same time Muhammad Kasim at Takafi. He landed in Sind current day Pakistan with an army and then we at
Kotabin Muslim in China. So we're going to leave China and Central Asia aside. We're going to leave India for now
aside. Inshallah for that you're going to have to invite me again. Pab inshallah. Yeah. Yeah. Part two.
Inshallah. We'll do Islam in India. Okay. and how this history is being repeated in India. We're going to we're
going to come to that as well inshallah very quickly. Right? So we're going to focus on Spain. So Tariq bin Zad takes
this territory and he goes on taking this territory for the next four years. His master Tarik bin Zad was a client of
a man called Musa bin Nuser who was again working for the kiff wed bin Abd Malik. Musa bin Nuser falls Tariq bin
Zad into Spain and together they conquer pretty much 80% of the Iberian Peninsula if not 90%. Most of it they conquer
within four four years they conquer all of what we know today Spain and Portugal uh except some northwestern parts
of the Aberian Peninsula what we call the Atorious mountains. So then followed a change of regime in
Damascus. Widbin Abd Malik died in 96. Hijri Solan comes to power his brother and he
changes the entire establishment. Unfortunately he calls back the generals and he dismantles them. He dismantles
the the entire campaign of conquest in all these territories. Why? Long story. It's a long story. I'm not going to go
into that cuz that's not the topic today. Okay. So, the conquests in Spain stopped and then followed a period of
chaos for the next 40 years to the extent that Islamic Spain as soon as it was taken it
was going to fall because the Muslims could not work with each other. They started to fight each other. And these
were not theological conflicts. These were not the conflicts between the burlvies and the Wahhabis and and the
and the Shia Sunni or anything like that. It wasn't it was anything like that. This conflict was tribal. It was
ethnic. It was raci racism. Basically the Arabs not willing to work under the authority of the Berbers and the Berbers
not willing to accept the Arabs and the Arabs within themselves. The Syrian clan and then the Yemeni. Long story short,
they started to conflict with each other. For 40 years, there is a conflict. There's like a civil war
period going on in Spain immediately after the Muslims took the land of Spain. So, it was a huge lesson for the
Muslims. And many Muslim intellectuals and sincere thinkers at that time, okay, like we have some today, they
started to look for the solutions. How do we stop this? We're going to lose all of this. We just got it. Allah blessed
us with this territory to put the flag of Islam there to bring tohed to this land so that people can bow to Allah on
this territory and now we are about to lose it because of this infighting and then something changes at the
center. There is another revolution that takes place in the Muslim world and this is
the Abbasid revolution. When Banu Abbas comes to power in the year 132 Hijri 132 Hijri. So the Abbasids they remove
the Omayyad from power. And now after they remove the Umayyads from power they know they cannot leave
any claimment to power alive. This is how things were unfortunately at that time. A dynasty has lost power. If
you leave any prince alive, that prince can become the next kaiff and launch another rebellion and fight us. So wipe
them out. That was the idea of the Abbassids. So the Abbassids went on a killing spree killing every single adult
male Umayad. And one of them was the grandson of one
of the Umayyad kiffs called Hisham bin Abdul Malik. Hisham bin Abdul Malik ruled from 105 Hij to 125 Hij. This is
when Imam Malik is alive. This is when Imam Abu Alan is alive. Right? So this is a very vibrant period in Islam. In
fact he was one of the most powerful um kaiffs. He dies in 125. 7 years later the omay are gone and then one of his
grandchildren known as Abdul Rahman why is he known as Abdman the first we
will see inshallah very quickly right so Abdman he runs for his life because the ambassad
prince who grew up in Damascus who grew up in the palace who who who who has tasted power who has seen power and he
is a threat to the Abassads. So the Abbassids are pursuing him like many other um princes. His mother came from
the Barbers. His mother was a barber from North Africa from Karand Morocco. So he makes
his way towards the Berbar people because [snorts] he knows they will protect him
eventually. Long story short, he's on the run for many, many months and he ends up in current day, Morocco.
I'm cutting the the long story short because there are books written on him by the way. Abdman Dah Abdman the first
his struggle. He's still very young. He's in his early 20s, right? Very young man, maybe 21, 22 years old. He's on the
run. And Allah subhana wa ta'ala saved him for a reason as we will see. Allah saved him to save Alandus from falling
from destruction. So he runs for his life and he finds refuge with the barbers. The abbasses come looking for
him and they cannot find him. Then the Muslims in in Alandaloo find out about him. They somehow from their
intelligence learned that right next to us in Morocco, current day Morocco, there is a there is an umad prince who
can potentially unite all of these divided factions. Why? Who is fighting in Alandaloo at this time? The Syrians
against Yemenes and the Yemenes and the Syrians against the Barbars. This is one man who
possesses the qualities that all clans or all factions will accept. Why? His mother is Berber. So
the Berbers will surrender to him. He is He's Kureshi. He is Kureshi. He is Umayyad. He's from
Banuaya. So he's Kureshi. Yemenes will accept him. And he came from Syria
because the Umayads ruled Syria. So the Syrians will accept him. So they approach him and they ask him to
come to Alandaloo and save us from this destruction. There is a civil war going on. We're going to lose Alandaloo. Okay.
So Abdahman who is already on the run. He wants refuge. He wants his own territory. He wants protection. So he
finds this opportunity. He thinks this is from Allah. So he makes his way to Alangus. Again, long
story short, okay, he unites the factions. They surrender to him. They accept him as the Amir. Okay, so he's
given this title, Amir Abdman, bin Muavia, bin Hasham, bin Abd Malik, bin Marwan, bin Hakam. So he goes back
all the way to the genus. So he's a he's a he's a bonafide um confirmed um so they surrender to his authority. So now
he becomes the Amir as a young man but then he spends the rest of his life consolidating Muslim power. He moves the
capital to Kaba and then he does what amazingly one of the first things he does is he
builds a masid in a ruined place where there was a church once upon a time. It's a ruined
church which has been abandoned. He takes the land. He buys it from the Christians. Okay? Because he cannot take
this land by force. You cannot build a masid, a house of Allah to worship Allah through haram means. So he satisfied the
Christians. He gave them money. He took this land and he built that masid called masjid Kartava. Guess what? That part
stands to this day. That very masid built by Abdman I in 780s almost
120 150 years after the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam almost 150 years after the prophet sallallahu
alaihi wasallam the masjid stands to this day that part stands to this day recently there was a fire in that masjid
in the roof Allah protected alhamdulillah so it has stood for the last 1,000 300 years and it is beyond my
I I cannot make sense how it's still standing. If you know the history of Alandalos, if you know what happened in
Spain in subsequent centuries and years, you will just look at the building and you will think how has this building
survived? How has how is this Islamic monument standing to this day 1,300 years later after all of that? After the
Catholics went on a genocide spree, they went killing Muslims, wiping out any trace of Islam and Muslims. Today,
you cannot find a Muslim grave in Spain. I have not seen one. I've been traveling to Spain for years.
Not one of a Muslim in Alandaloo and millions, not hundreds of thousands. I'm very
confident about this. Millions, tens of millions of Muslims are worried in Spain. Their blood, their sweat,
their flesh is part of that land. When you drive through Spain, Alanderus, southern territory, when we are in the
bus, we look at the mountains and the fields and I tell all the people who are touring with us that in these fields are
Muslims buried. I can guarantee you in these fields there is blood of the Muslims. The blood of the shada
but we don't find a trace. And that mashid is standing to this day. Those pillars, those horseshoe arches,
those palm tree arches are standing to this day. So Abdman, this is one of the first
things he did. And then he established a center of learning. He was an um prince. He was so nostalgic about Damascus, his
life in Damascus that he wrote poetry about it. He saw a lone palm tree in Spain somewhere. I don't know exactly
where. Um when he saw this lone palm tree, he said, "You are like me away from his home, longing to be with his
people, but we are like each other, you know. So he really loved Rousafa. Rousafa was a garden uh summer garden
made by his grandfather near Damascus. So he made another rosafa in Kava. The land is well known where it was built
but the remains don't exist anymore unfortunately. Even his cabar is not known. We don't know where he's buried
in Spain and his descendants. But what he has done for Islam still stands to this day. Allahbar that masid. So Abdman
he consolidates power. He establishes Islamic hold on what we call central and south central Spain through his capital
Kartaba. He moves the capital from Toledo uh to Kartaba and he rules from Kartaba
and then is established a dynasty called the Umayad dynasty of Spain. Then for the next 250 odd years his
descendants rule Spain. Okay. one after another. I don't have the time to go through the history of
every single one of those amirs and the deeds, but this was the golden age of Spain. This was the golden age of Islam
in Spain. This is when some of the greatest scholars of Islam were born. When Muslims came to Spain, they
established peace and justice and harmony between the Christians and the Jews and the Muslims. Of course, all of
these three faiths coexisted together under the protection under the rule of Islam. This territory was ruled by
Sharia, the law of the Quran. The Amirs applied the law of the Quran on Spain and that
brought brought so much peace that it gave rise to what the world has never seen before or after.
One of the German nuns, she visited Kartaba in the 10th century, 900s. She saw Spain, she saw Kartaba and she had
no other words than to call it the ornament of the world. She said there is nothing like it in this world because it
was such a spectacle. It was the largest city in the world with over a million people living in it
at that time. A million people in a city was a lot of people. a lot of people. It had water mills. It had a huge book
market, the largest in the world. Kartava became the magnet of all learned people in the
world, Europeans and Arabs and others. European men, men from Britain, from
England, and the rest of Britain were traveling to Spain to seek knowledge from Muslims
and non-Muslim Arabs, which is the Jews and the Christians, cuz they also spoke Arabic. Here in England, for 500 years,
you could not be considered an academic or a learned man if you did not know the Arabic language. Did you know this? Did
you know this? Know this today. In this country called the Great Britain
today for 500 years from 900,
the year 900 to 1200s, right? So let's say from the 9th or the 10th century to the 13th century within
these 500 years Englishmen and Scotsmen
and possibly some Welsh people Welsh scholars were traveling actively to the Muslim lands in
particular Spain to seek the knowledge formed the Arabs to learn the Arabic language. I will name people, people
like Adilad of Bath. There's a place called Bath near Bristol. Adel was from that city and he learned the Arabic
language. Then we had Robert of Ketton who translated the Quran from Arabic to Latin for the first time for the
Europeans. Then we had Michael Scott. Then we had Daniel of Morle. All of these men I just
mentioned are British men. You want to learn more about this particular aspect of British history and the English
history. How Britain in general and England in particular benefited from Arabs and Muslims directly. There is a
book titled the matter of Arabi in medieval England. It is authored by Dorothy Metslitzki.
She's a Jewish historian. She has written this book. She has documented this history in this book. The matter of
Arabi in medieval England. Google it and you will see the book and the details that will blow your mind
away. How these English men were traveling to Spain. What was happening in Spain? What was so special about
Spain? Why were they traveling this? Because all of this territory was the outback, the backward part of the world.
Britain, Germany, France. This was the most backward part of the world at the time.
This is where people lived in mud houses. When it would rain, their their ceilings
would be leaking. Their streets were completely full of mud and human excrement because they
didn't have any sewage system. So they would throw everything on the on the road. And this was happening up to the
18th century. By the way, this is not medieval. Europe only became organized and clean
and and uh sophisticated in the last two to 300 years, possibly more than that. Of course, I I have to be fair. I'm I'm
not going to you know renaissance started in Europe in the in the 15th century when European authors and
intellectuals they started to write and a lot of this knowledge came from uh Spain from the Arabs. When I say the
Arabs I mean the Jews, Christians and Muslims put together all of them. They were all Arabs. They were writing in the
Arabic language. They were working in the Arabic life. All of this was produced by the dominance of Islam in
Spain. This was the fruit of Islam. This was the fruit of the Quran. This what was the fruit of Muslim civilization.
Some people would come and say no no no Muslims are against science. Actually Muslim theologians were against
scientists and they were against uh this kind of advancement. But we can show examples where people
who were working on these things they were not only scientists they were also theologians. They were
they were fa they were muddin. I can give you just one name. We study his book today to this day. You
might even find that book here in this masid on the shelf. So he was not only a theologian, he was
also a philosopher and an intellectual who was right. Europeans took Aristotle from him.
Thomas Aquinus in the 13th century when he was writing commentaries on Aristotle he was taking knowledge from
all of this comes from Spain there are books written on this I advise you to get some of these books and I
hope while you're editing this video you can put the pictures of these books it's very simple Google the name of the book
the title you'll get the picture put it there on the screen so that everyone and see it. Pause it and see it and go and
read it. Hidden debt to the Islamic civilization. There's another book I strongly recommend, Hidden Debt to the
Islamic Civilization. Another book I strongly recommend is the legacy of Alandarus edited by Salma
Khadra Jusi. Then there is another book by the Muslim Spain by Anar Shahana. Okay, beautiful
books that document a lot of this history I'm discussing. Okay, and then also specifically looking at astronomy,
there is a book authored by um a Christian um historian George Siba. He is an Arab Christian and he has authored
this book, the Arabic origins of the European Renaissance. The Arabic origins of the European Renaissance. All of this
goes back to Alandaloo, Spain. These libraries, these books, these scholars, studies of science,
philosophy, theology, hadith, taps, poetry, you name it. Some of the best poets ever produced in the Jewish
history specifically were produced during this period. The Jews call period between 900 to
1200. They call it the golden age. They call it the golden age of the
Israelites. This is when they produce some of the best thinkers,
rabbis, philosophers, statesmen, even prime ministers. And I'm going to come to that very
quickly. So all of this was the fruit of Alandalus,
a land in Western Europe ruled by Islam and Muslims. And there were calls of prayer, calls to
prayer from the minits all over while all of this was taking place. The largest book collection anywhere in
the world was in Kartaba. Kaiff Hakam II, he had the largest book collection in
the world. Half a million books in his collection in Kartaba. There were 70 public libraries. There was no concept
of public libraries before this. There were 70 public libraries in Kartaba. The streets were paved. There were street
lamps in the 10th century in Kartaba before they came to London in the 17th century or maybe 18th century if I'm not
mistaken. So Kartava was far ahead of the rest of the world on every single level.
Culturally, educationally, intellectually, ideologically, militarily,
Kartaba was the most powerful, the most sophisticated, the most educated, the most clean, the most moral city on the
planet. That's why it's so important to study it. And this happened during the Umayat
period. So Abd Rahman ruled passed away passed on power to his
descendants who came to power. One of them was called Abd Rahman III
who ruled for a very long time from 912 to 9
I forgot the exact uh in the 970s. uh his reign went on until 970s. Abdman III he came to power in 912 as a
young man and in 929 CE he stood on the member in Masjid Kartaba and he declared himself to be the Khalifa. Previously
the rulers of Umayyad Spain were called Amir. They had the title Amirs. Now in 929 Abdman III declares himself to be
the Khalifa. He is now a kaiff. Why? Why did he do that? When we had an ambassador kaiff, albeit a puppet in
Baghdad, why did he do this? Because that kiff had lost his power. And there was another caliphate in Egypt called
the Shia Fatameid caliphate and they were already poking the Andurusian territory in North Africa. So to deal
with them, Abdman III needed a status, a level to claim authority with the Muslims.
He became the kaleiff himself. Now because the kaleiff in Baghdad is powerless. He's unable to do anything. I
will become the kiff. I am as per the hadith. So I am from quresh. His mother was
white and he himself was blonde. Right. And it is stated in the sources that he used to dye his hair black to look like
an Arab. Today people go blonde. Huh. Yeah. You go to the Arab world today. Yeah. You
see women walking around in blonde hair because they want to be blonde because the dominant
civilization today materially is the western civilization. Right. Yeah. You see people now go walking around in
suits, men, right? Because they think we look we look more slick. Yeah. You you look more uh presentable,
right? While in the middle ages it was the other way around. Europeans learned men used to wear turbans like
Muslims. They wanted to look like Muslims. There are European paintings painted during
the ren renaissance period where they are painting scholars with turbans and they are non-Muslims, Christian
scholars, Europeans. Why? Because they want to look learned. This is the attire of the learned people. So Abdman III he
felt because he was blonde he felt inferior among all these Arabs. So he start he used to dye his hair black to
look more Arab right and he was a very powerful figure. He took the territories of Alandaloo to the farthest corner of
the the Iberian Peninsula because he became the caiff. Now to fight for him is an Islamic obligation, right? Because
he's the kaleiff now. So he was successfully fighting the fatides in North Africa and in the north against
the Catholic powers or the Christian powers. So he kept them at bay and then he built this magnificent city called
Medina Zahara just to send shock waves through his opponents and his vessels. So this was an exercise to demonstrate
his power. It was a spectacle. So he built the city about five miles or 5 kilometers outside of the city of
Kartaba called Medina Zah. It was named after one of his favorite wives or concubines, right? Her name was Zah. So
he called the city after her, Madina Zah. And the remains still stand to this day. Even by looking at remains you
think Allah Akbar if these are the remains what would the city look like when he was alive when it was all
complete and standing right so there would be a line of guards standing for miles to welcome any ambassadors coming
from the north from the Christian nations from France from Germany from Britain if the ambassadors came to pay
homage to him to pay their taxes or to receive receive decrees from him. They would pass through this army of guards
guarding the road from miles before they get to the caiff. So before they get to the kaiff, they deal with the vazir
called Jaffur. Okay? And Jaffer would organize their lodging and then eventually they would meet the kaiff
from a distance. In this case of Dhman thei and Hakam II, his immediate successor.
And this was a spectacle created to be a spectacle to show the power and glory of not only
Islam but the Umayyad state in Alandarus. Again he because he was dealing with hostile enemies. He had to
do all this pomp and uh and power a display and show of power right unfortunately it didn't last very long.
within 80 years the city of Madina Zahara was sacked due to a civil war that occurred uh as a result of the fall
of the omead state in Alandulus. We're going to come to that very quickly inshallah. So this was the period of
Muslim power in Spain. Okay. So from 912 to 970s Abdman III and his son Hakam II ruled together.
Hakam the second was a scholar par excalance and I mentioned his library already earlier he had agents planted
all over the Muslim world just doing one thing collecting books for him right he didn't send them as ambassadors he had
them planted in every single Muslim capital from China to Cairo or Damascus every everywhere
Baghdad and collect books for me and they would collect special books for him and bring
them back to Alandaloo. And then he had an he had he had a team of women, ladies transcribing these books for him. These
were expert calligraphers sitting in his library transcribing books for him. Subhan Allah. This was Hakam II. So this
is how the situation was up to this point. And then after Hakam II died, his juvenile son was put uh on the throne
and he couldn't rule obviously. So for him came to rule another man called al-Mansour.
When Hakami dies Abdulman III he declared himself to be the kaiff and because of that he got a lot of uh
influence and potential that comes with the office of caliphate. So he used that to the maximum potential and he expanded
the territories of Islam uh in Alandaloo and in North Africa and he successfully averted the threat of the Fatameid
caliphate in Egypt right at that time. So uh he had consolidated his power. He even had a prime minister or finance
minister called Hazdai Ian Chaprut who was a Jewish man. So when today the Zionists, the propagandists tell us that
the Muslims are the enemies of the Jewish people by default. Muslims are by nature
anti-semitic. Muslims inherently hate the Jewish people. Therefore, we need the state of
Israel and we need nuclear weapons to protect ourselves against these bloodthirsty Arabs. But amazingly when
you study the history of the Muslim civilization, you will come to realize that the Jewish people survived only
because the Muslims protected them for over a thousand years. Over 90% of the Jewish people
in the world for 1,000 years lived under the protection of Islam in Muslim domains.
Whether that is the Middle East during the Abbasid period and the Umay period, whether that is Alandaloo, Spain
throughout the Muslim period, whether that was the Ottoman territory as late as the 20th century, the Jewish
people found a safe haven with the Muslims, the Jewish people, before the rise of Zionism, before the rise of
these terrorists and these These extremists called the Zionists, Muslims and Jews
lived peacefully for over a thousand years over a thousand after the rise of this terrorist entity called
the Zionist movement that committed acts of terrorism as we know historically the King David hotel bombing and all that
you know and the rest and it continues to this day it's happening the whole world ICJ case and all that you It's not
even uh uh a controversial statement to make anymore because everyone knows previously people were scared right
people were very terrified of talking about this because of the influence of this movement. Now their actions have
made it possible alhamdulillah that everyone's talking about it and soon this oppression and this terrorism will
end inshallah. So these people they claim that this is a lie. Muslims never protected the
Jewish people. Muslims never took care of the Jewish people. In fact, the Jewish people always suffered. This is
the Zionist narrative. By the way, it is quite recent. But if you look at the Jewish historians who are not Zionist or
who are writing before Zionism, you will see all of them unanimously called this period the period of
the golden age. I'll give you two examples very quickly. There is a German Jewish historian called Hinrich Ges
writing in the 19th century. He writes about this period and he calls it the best
period in Jewish history. The best time in Jewish history was Alandaloo Islamic SP Islamic Spain.
Then we have a recent Jewish historian called Zion Zohar an American Jewish historian. He writes in his book a
history of Safhadic and Mitsarah Jury on page 9 and 8. He calls it the period between 900 to 1200. He calls it the
Jewish golden age. Then Dean Philip Bell another Jewish historian from Chicago
from Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies. He writes that this period is generally known as the golden age of
the Israelites. And this notion was only questioned recently due to the political events.
So this narrative, this propaganda is false that the Jewish people suffered. Of course, I'm not claiming utopia. I'm
not claiming perfection. I'm not claiming that Jewish people they were flying around like uh My Little Pony
cartoon, you know, like you you see the rainbows and stars and ponies flying around. I'm not claiming that. I'm
saying it wasn't as good as that my little pony land and it wasn't as bad as the Zionist
claim. It was a relatively good period for the Jewish people. That's why the Jewish
people chose Muslims over Christians. For 1,000 years, 90% of the Jewish people lived in the Muslim domains. And
not in one place by the way from Egypt to the Ottoman ter from Aubid Egypt to Ottoman Turkey and Jerusalem and and
other territories and Iraq and Alandalus during the Omayad period and beyond up to the fall of Granada.
So why I mention this because one of the the things we mention in this regard is
that Iban Shaput was a Jewish man who was a prime minister, finance minister dealing with the finances of the
caliphate. The califf had his finance minister as who a Jewish man
chap was also a physician. Ironically another slur we hear today that Orurange Zalangir in India the Mughal emperor he
was wiping out temples he was anti-Hindu he was destroying Hindus he was an enemy of Hindus therefore we're going to
remove his name for mystery the BJP currently the BJP government in India they want to wipe out any trace of
orangalangir from the history of India you know about this do you know about this can know about this inshallah from
from now on. Okay. And they don't stop there. The BJP establishment, anyone who writes any objective history of Orurange
Balangir, not in his favor, not against him, just objective history as found in the sources. Anyone who writes an
objective history of Orurange Balamir is a target for them. One history has been written recently
the life of Orurange Balamir by a lady an American historian called Odre Trashk and she faced immense backlash on
Twitter and online and offline. So on Twitter she had all these BJP Twitter accounts attacking her day and
night. You are this, you are that. Swearing at her, cursing her. You, how dare you write a history of Orang and
not curse him, not criticize. She's saying, I'm a historian. I'm a historian. I'm writing history.
What do you want me to do? No, no, no. We don't want history. We want you to curse him. So he sorry. She went to
lecture in India. She's such a brave lady having written this book. She went to lecture in India. She was being
heckled while she was lecturing by these extremist Hindus in India.
And ironically, historians tell us that the highest number of Hindus employed by any Mughal
emperor ever was done under the rule of Orang. 31% of his state
employment was in the hands of Hindus. His finance minister was Hindu. And you call him a bigot. You call him
an anti-Hindu bigot. And just because he was a Muslim, just because he really loved Islam, just because he patronized
fataw alamir al fatawal alamir or al fatal hindia, just because he patronized scholars, just because there was an
Islamic renaissance in India during his reign, you hate him for that. That's the reason. The reason is not his bigotry.
Likewise, you know, Hazan Shaput was a finance minister for an Islamic khif, an Islamic ruler
and he did a good job for the khif. That's why he stayed in power. That's why he was used for his credentials and
his abilities. So Akam the second his son succeeds his father and he doesn't live very long and
his juvenile son comes to power and then follows chaos again and
one of the prime ministers his name is Abi Amir and also known as al-Mansour the conqueror he took the
reigns of power into his own hands and he ruled Spain on behalf of the young kaleiff.
So in order to assert his authority, he invaded the north, the Christian territories repeatedly.
In fact, there was a legend that grew in medieval Spain that when you are in the battlefield against the Muslims, you
shout the slogan for St. James of Santiago. Santiago de Compastella. It is a place in northwestern Spain
which is the most visited shrine in the Catholic world today. Is that clear? It is the most popular shrine for the
Catholics in the world. It is in Spain. It's called Santiago de Compastella. Who is buried there? St. James.
James the disciple of Jesus Christ. Allegedly he's buried in Spain. We don't know what he was doing there and how he
got there because historical record tells us that he was killed in Jerusalem. He was thrown off the walls
of Jerusalem and this is documented by Ucius the church historian. So we don't know how James got to uh Santiago
Compastella and Muslims are mashallah you know they don't they don't want to be left behind as well. They also claim
the Sahaba are buried in China for example there is a place in Gongu right? So there is a claim that uh
is buried there. Has anyone been there? China. But do you know about it? Do you know about the claim? There is a claim
and people actually believe it that Abiwak the companion of is buried in China in Gongu
and there's a big shrine there right and what do the historians tell us? Islamic history sad radi he died in Medadina in
the year 55 hiji so either his body was carried all the way to China or he didn't go to China right so you
have to be very careful just because someone attributes a to someone doesn't become their
right and this is a big problem it's a big problem and I don't mean to criticize people and their beliefs and
you are free to believe what you want but have sense, right? How a lie can become so huge that that
it becomes more factual than facts. You know there is a place near Apabad in Pakistan called Kotakabar
right and I have grown up you know about this it's close to our it's close to our
village it's called Kotakar which literally means donkey grave and people actually go to this cabar to ask
for blessings and all sorts of things you know and they know it is a donkey buried
I'm [clears throat] not making this up. Go and check. There's a place between Ababad and Haripur.
Right there. These are two cities in the Hazara region of Pakistan about 70 to 80 kilometers from Islamabad, the capital.
There is a place there's a small village called Kotak Kabar, donkey grave. People know there's a donkey in this cabar. And
they go seeking blessings and they put all sorts of cloths. They tie cloths on the tree and you know
colored cloths and all sorts of things. You ask them why are you doing it? They say this donkey was a law
and you're you're laughing but this is real. We ask them why is this donkey a let's talk about it. Let's be rational
about it. Why is this donkey? They said this donkey belonged to a baker. This donkey was a special donkey. It
belonged to a baker rotalini on there right people who used to cook bread with. So this baker used
to make bread and used to load the donkey with the bread and donkey would go from door to door delivering bread
for the baker without being guided. So the donkey knew the routine. Every day this donkey was delivering bread to
houses. Therefore this this donkey was the value of Allah because of this characteristic this quality this
beautiful quality we value this donkey as a friend of Allah right so when this donkey died we made a
grave out of it this donkey and then we do all these things don't believe me go and check because I
grew up seeing it I grew up I've I know the place I've seen the the the sign board kabar going this way We're going
to we're going to come. You've seen it. >> Okay, you've seen it as well. I have a witness as well. Alhamdulillah. I have
two witnesses in the crowd now already. So why am I making this point? Santiago de Compastella,
St. James is buried in Spain in northwestern Spain. Okay, let's say it's true. No problem. Right. My question is
now so when the when u when the Spanish Christians started to fight the Muslims on battlefields they would shout this
slogan Santiago which is St. James Metamorus they would
call him the mur killer in other words the Muslim killer so the saint is a Muslim killer saint right so we shout
his name so al-Mansur when he came to power he said okay if your saint is a Muslim
killer I'm going to show you so he went and he attacked this city called Santiago de compastella he went all the
way to the north and he attacked the city and he conquered it and he dismantled the whole shrine and he asked
the Christians where is the saint Muslim killer here I am at his shrine right so he took the bells and he made the
Christian captives carry that those bells back to Cordoba right to make a point that you hate us
you use this slur against us this is our response to it so al- Mansour became uh a very huge threat for the northern
Christian states, the Catholic states, right? So that's why he was called al-Mansour and he did the last expansion
expansion to Masid Kartaba. Masjid Kartaba went through few expansions. If you visit the masid today, you will see
the oldest part built at the time of Drahan the first. Then you will see the next expansion that took place during
the reign of Abdman the second. Then the next expansion took place during the reign of Hakam II and the final
expansion took place during the reign of al-Manssour the reign of ibnu Abir there's a there's a very powerful story
I want to mention in very quickly that before we move forward inshallah because I know it's it's a very detailed detail
requiring topic and I don't want to go on for too long exhausting you with too many details but there is when he was
expanding the masjid Kartava there was a house that came uh in the way and this house belonged to a lady
and she was an old woman and she didn't want to sell her house so they tried to reason with her so this is for the
masjid take the payment and go and build a house somewhere else right she said I'm not selling my house so ibn ibn abi
was the de facto ruler he was the wazir but he was the de facto ruler he could easily wipe her out or clean the place.
But he didn't want to do that. He didn't want to take that land unless she agrees to it because this is about masid.
That's why Allah Akbar, you know, subhan Allah. I believe one of the reason that masjid stands to this day
as a testament of Islamic or Muslim presence in Spain is because of these these measures this these careful
measures that were taken into account. So if there was any haram or oppression involved in that place that masid
wouldn't be standing today Allah. So he didn't want to take this land from that woman. So they tried to reason Ola
went there people went to convince her and she wasn't listening and then they said what do you want she
said I love this palm tree in my house and I love the the I love my house this the way it looks they said if we do
exactly the same thing for you elsewhere will you be happy with that same place the palm tree and same house same design
she said yes if you make me the same house somewhere else I'll move to it They did it. They made the same house
for her somewhere else and then she moved out and they expanded the masid. Subhan Allah. Today if you go to the
masid, the largest expansion was done by Abi Amir al-Mansur. And when you look at the pillars from that time, the pillars
have the names of the the the workers carved on them to this day. You will see names like Mansour. You will see names
like uh if I'm not mistaken mas uh you'll see uh uh and then some pillars have the wordah inscribed on them
just for Allah. I don't want to put my name on it. Whether it was for payment or whether it was for remembrance they
didn't want to put their name on it. So the worker simply inscribed lilah on the pillar. You go to the masid today you
will see these things inshallah. Moving on. Al Mansur couldn't basically uh uh you know he couldn't take the authority
of the omayat kaiffs and claim it for himself although he tried to create his own dynasty and when he died his own son
was put in power but he could not hold on to power any longer in 1031 CE almost 250 years after the Umayad uh state was
established it was dismantled unfortunately it was dismantled and Muslim amama were very disturbed
including Innu Hazam who was alive at the time. Innu Hazam Alandalooi who was among many other scholars who were born
in Spain and they wrote their books on hadith. Some of the greatest hadith works were produced in Spain in Kartava.
The largest collection of hadith ever produced in the history of Islam. Do you know what it's called? Does anyone know?
>> Sorry. Hazam's al no anyone else.
>> Thank you very much. Allah bless you. Mashallah. Very good. One of our brothers know this. Mashallah. Must be a
Talib. Allah. Bless you. Okay. Baki bin Mak was a scholar of hadith who was a direct student of Imam Ahmed Humbul who
had come from Spain to Baghdad. And there is a story attributed to him and Imam Ahmed Hambo not so
authentically but it is documented in if I'm not mistaken in Su Alamah uh that Bakib Makl when he came to
Baghdad to take hadith from Imam Ahmed Hal from Spain from from Alandus Imam Ahmed was banned
from teaching at the time by the ambassad authorities because they were mazari at the time right so Imm Ahmed he
came to the door he said Yeah. When he came to Baghdad, he found out that Imam Ahmed cannot teach. So he went to the
house and he knocked the door. Imam Ahmed came to the door and he said, "Yeah, Imam, I've come from Spain,
Alandarus." And you know today, you know today you can take a flight from Dubai to Madrid.
How long does it take? 6 hours. At that time traveling from Kartaba to Baghdad, you know what it meant? It meant a
matter of life and death. It meant crossing deserts, seas, mountains, rivers, you name it. It meant traveling
on camel back, on horses, walking, fatigue, lack of food, disease, you name it. Everything was there.
Life was truly threatened. In those days when people used to go for Hajj, they would say salams to their families. If I
don't return, then please forgive me. And this is happening as late as the early 20th century from India. You know
when you know in India nowadays it's not a big deal but back in the day even when I was a child you know Sab. Yeah.
You know what I'm talking about. Hajis Sab was a very big title for someone in any neighborhood. Sab would be the
most noble man. You know why? Cuz this man's been on Hajj. I'm talking about the 80s when I was a child. I still
remember Ajisab today if you call someone Sab you what are you talking about Hajj yeah I've done 50
Hajj over 50 like five 10 Hajj so what do you but at that time so imagine if someone had been to Hajj because Hajj
was so difficult bakin Maklat comes from Spain to Bakdad and Imam Ahmed cannot teach so he goes to the door IM tells
him sorry says Imam Sab I've come from very far so you have to teach me something so the story goes that Imam
Ahmed and him they agreed that he will come as a beggar to the door every day to
collect one report a day from Imam Ahmed. Okay. And then they would do that and the result or the potential the
possible result was his musn. His musn was larger than the mus of Im Ahmed bul. Unfortunately we lost it. We have no
trace of it today. Uh there there are mentions in the reports that there were copies found like Imam Dahabi in his
library he had two volumes but we have never seen it unfortunately we don't know what the Muslim of Bakib and Maklad
look like but this was produced in Kartaba then scholars like Abdar a great Maliki fak Imam Kabi
your two best taps of the Quran in the world today are which ones? Who is going to tell me two names? They
always come up. No, no, no, no. And
when the word taps is mentioned, two names come up. Tabari and Kabi. One produced by Immari
who was from Tabaristan, Persia and the other produced in Kaba, Cordoba. Then people like Inn Ham and people like
Innush the list I mean the list of Islamic scholars produced in Spain there are chunky volumes written on their
biographies. I cannot possibly sit here and mention every single one of them. Right? So Hazam was very disturbed by
this new situation that in 1031 the Muslim caliphate is dismantled. What follows is a period 50 years period of
mulaw petty kingdoms. Now because caliphate has dismantled all the governors who
were ruling different territories in Spain they announced the independence and every single one of them became a
kiff. One of the Muslim travelers during this period when he visited Spain he said I
have never seen so many kiffs in the world because there were so many kaiffs and
this is the period where you see the Muslim situation today if you look at the Middle East today it
looks like that surrounded by enemies in Spain these small petty kingdoms the kingdom of Valencia the kingdom of
Seville the kingdom of Cordova, the kingdom of Toledo, for example, Toledo was uh was conquered soon after uh and
then the kingdom of Granada, all these petty kingdoms, right?
And they are surrounded by enemies, Catholics, Christian kings from the north, they are watching, they are
looking for opportunities to attack the Muslims and take all this territory back from the Muslims. Why? Because the
Catholic Church, the Pope is breathing down their necks that you better take this territory from the Sarisons, from
the infidel. Okay? That's why they sent a crusade to the Middle East to conquer Jerusalem. And they wanted, they said,
"You're doing a crusade in Jerusalem. In the Middle East, what's going to happen with these guys? They are right next
door to us. They have territory. You need to take it back." So, the Christian kings were waiting for the opportunity.
And guess what happens? because of these petty kingdoms and them not working together,
not coming together, not joining their heads together, not putting their money, their potential, the their their power
together. One by one they were picked by the crusader kingdoms of the north and they were being wiped out. One by one
they were being taken. You see the Middle East today without mentioning the petty kingdoms we have the kingdoms in
the Middle East, right? Some bigger, some smaller, right? Okay. And they are surrounded by enemies.
You have Iran on one side and you have Israel on the other side. Enemies, open enemies, right? So this is a sandwich,
right? And this is not a sandwich of bread. This is a sandwich of two bricks. As they say, you are stuck between a
hard place and a rock. Yeah. On one side you have a rock, the other side you have another hard place. This
is exactly what the Middle East is today. It's like the petty kingdoms of Malucat period in Spain. So learn from
history's our history Muslims. I'm reaching out to the Muslims out there. Whoever you are. Maybe one of the rulers
from the Middle East is watching this lecture. Hopefully someone is right. Do something about it before things start
to change. May Allah protect us. May Allah subhanaa tala protect our territory. May Allah protect our sacred
spaces. May Allah subhanaa tala enable our brothers to rule firmly collectively for the greater good of Islam and
Muslims. We pray that may Allah protect us against our enemies. But the enemies are very powerful and they are working
together just like that time in period. But then what happens? Allah subhanaa tala always has a way out. So when the
Christians started to conquer land from these split Muslim dynasties, small you know petty kingdoms here and there
in Spain when they started to take territory one of the Muslim kings ruling from
civil al- Mid well-known poet a poet par excalons amazing Arabic poet he could see my kingdom is going to fall the
kings from the north are threatening and they will attack and it will fall. So what does he do? He reaches out to the
al- Morabetun ruling in Morocco at the time, a very powerful dynasty ruled by Ysef Tashi. So
he reaches out. Someone told him, "You're going to get these camel herders.
You're going to get these camel herders to come and take Alandaloo." He said, "I rather be a shepherd for the camels than
be a farmer for the pigs." So what was he referring to? He said, "If the Christians, the Catholics came
from the north, they will bring a herd of pigs with them." So I'd rather have a herd of camels coming from Morocco than
a herd of pigs coming from the north. And then lo and behold, in 1080s, Al- Murabetun intervened. They come to
Spain. There's a battle that takes place between the Christian kings on the north and al- Murabetun and
the Christians are stopped having taken some of the cities in the north. They took Babbastro in 1060s. Then in 1080s
they took Toledo and now the Muslims are alarmed now the Christian crusaders are coming forward and they are taking all
this territory. So Al- Muravetun came and they stopped that advance and then they came to power. they started to
rule. So al- Murabetun ruled for the next 50 odd years. From 1080s to 1140s, Al- Murabetun ruled. Then came another
dynasty to oust them and that was al- Mahun. Al- Moahidon, also known as Al- Mouds.
Al- Mozs from 1140s they ruled until 1250s.
What happened in 1250s? There was a famous battle that took place in the year 1212. I'm fast forwarding to get to
the minates inshallah. Okay. 1212. In the year 1212, this battle called last navas dtoloa. It took place where a
coalition of Christian kings came to fight the kiff at civil. The al- mo kiff at civil. This battle unfortunately was
a catastrophe for the Muslims. Muslims lost the battle against this huge coalition of Christian kings. Okay.
Three major powers came to fight the al mahun. For example, these three powers to be precise were uh to mention them uh
basically king Alonso 8th of Castile. He was joined by the armies of his rival Senko IIIth of Navar and Peter II of
Aragon. These three kings came to fight the caiff Anasir who was ruling from Seville and Pope Innocent III the
Catholic Pope was directly behind this. So, Muslim armies were defeated and as a result, unfortunately, Muslims as a
result of this battle in the next 40 odd years, Muslims lost pretty much all of central Spain. Okay. Cordoba fell after
600 years of rule. Cordoba fell into after 500 years of Muslim rule. Cordoba fell into the hands of the Christians in
1236. This was an absolute catastrophe. This was an absolutely this this is like Delhi or Damascus or Baghdad falling to
the Christians at that time. It was tantamount to that. When Kartaba fell, shock waves went throughout the Muslim
world in 1236. And when the Christians came, they saw the Kartaba masid and they wanted to make it a cathedral. So
the Christians immediately occupied it. But when they wanted to destroy it, demolish it, break it to build a masid,
build a church at its place, the people came out and they said, "No, we will never allow you to do this." So there
were many attempts made to break Masjid Kartava to build a cathedral and they were not successful in doing so. This
happened eventually in the 16th century when Charles V was the emperor and they built a cathedral right in the middle of
the masid that stands to this day. If you go to masjid kartaba you will see this big cathedral okay uh with all
sorts of idols of angels and children and human beings right in the middle of the masid and you see the masid uh built
around. So about 20% of the masid was demolished to build this cathedral right in the middle. Alhamdulillah, the 80% of
it still stands to this day. So when you go to visit the masid, you are not allowed to pray. You cannot walk inside
with your Muslim hat. You have to take it off. You're not even allowed to call adan or make dua aloud. You are not
allowed to do that. If they see you praying, they will pick you up and they'll throw you out because they
insist at the door, this is a Catholic cathedral now. So they let you know this is a Catholic cathedral now. So you
cannot pray inside. So when Muhammadbal the poet when he went to visit Kartava
in the 1920s he sought special permission to pray in the mab of Akam II. So you see his
famous picture on the musah making dua praying there. So they gave him special permission for that right and then he
wrote some absolutely painful poetry about Alandaloo and Kartaba in particular. So for that go and read the
poetry of Muhammad Ibal. So it doesn't stop there. After the Muslims lost all of this central Spain um unfortunately
uh what was left was only one state in the south called Granada. Okay. Granada fell into the hands of
another dynasty called the Nasared dynasty. The Nasaredits ruled Granada from 1250 all the way to 1492. So for
another almost 250 years, Muslims were able to rule this territory Granada because Granada is naturally protected
by the mountain range called Sierra Nevada. It is impregnable. Even in the 15th century, in 1490s, it
was impregnable. If the king had not lost his heart, the Catholics could never take this city. So I'm going to
fast forward very quickly. Go to 1492 when the kingdom of Granada fell to the Catholics. Okay. So for 250 years,
Nasared kings have used uh their power, their influence, their knowledge to rule successfully the kingdom of Granada.
They built this magnificent palace in 1230s. They started it called Alhamra Palace and it was completed in its
current form in the mid300s. Okay. Uh the 14th century. Uh it is uh as they say a gem of the world. It is a
wonder of the world. If you haven't seen it, you know, I would say take your children to see it. Let them behold it.
Let them see the absolute sheer beauty of it. It is mindblowing. I mean, I've seen Korean and Chinese and Japanese and
European travelers and Latin Americans standing there with their jaws dropped looking at the walls. How can human
beings produce this in the 14th century? How did the human beings the calligraphy in different styles, okay, the the
content, the poetry written on the walls, the design, the architecture, okay, the the advancement scientifically
is unbelievable. This is what really breaks the narrative of the Islamophobes around the world.
You know when they claim Islam equals this, Islam equals that, Islam equals this, Islam, Islam, Islam. Just take
them to Alhamra Palace and leave them there. Don't preach anything to them. Don't reason with these people because
they are so bigoted. They're so brainwashed. No talking will do anything. Just tell them we will buy if
some if it's someone important not some scumbag like Tommy Robinson uh none of these people they don't deserve it right
but if it's someone worth sending right tell them we will buy you a ticket don't talk to us go to Alhamra Palace go and
stand there visit the palace and then come back and tell us Islam this Islam that that's a product of Islam that's a
product made by Muslims okay you cannot separate that from the Quran. Okay. So this is why our children need
to see it. So how did we lose that? In 1480s, two states in Spain, they joined their
hands through marriage. Okay. Castile and Aragon joined their hands through marriage. Queen Isabella married King
Ferdinand and they came together. And Isabella was a diehard Catholic and she made a mission of her life to destroy
Islam completely from the Iberian Peninsula because she was working directly with the pope. The pope's every
single pope who came to power okay before that his life mission was to remove Islam from Spain. Okay. And then
she married Ferdinand for this end. And in 1480s they started to launch attacks against
the kingdom of Granada. The kingdom of Granada consisted of many major cities like Granada and Malaga and uh there
were some other cities um that came under the kingdom Canada because this was in the south on the sea. So it was a
Medit Mediterranean Sea and now the Ottomans remember what happened in 1453. Who's going to tell me why why are the
popes shivering in their pants at this time? Why? What's happening in the 15th century? No, no, no. Something big
happened. Something very big happened to send shivers down the spines of the European monarchs and the religious
authorities, Constantinople. In 1453, Sultan Muhammad Al Fat takes the crown jewel of Christendom, right?
The most important city after Rome itself, Constantinople, the seat of Eastern Orthodox Christianity,
Sultan Muhammad Al Fat takes Constantinople. And this shs shivers down the spines of
all European leadership. And now when they see Granada right at the doorstep, they are imagining Ottoman ships coming
from the Mediterranean Sea landing at Granada and attacking Europe from this side. So they are looking at Muslims as
a fifth column therein. Right? So they attacked the kingdom of Granada. This is one of the reasons as well. So 10 years
this war went on and in 1491 they besieged the city of Granada and for one year they
besieged the city and the army of the the Catholic monarchs is already giving up. They're getting tired. They're
getting fatigued. They want to go away. King in Granada was Abu Abdullah who was a weak king. No doubt the people did not
want to surrender. The people, the Muslims of Granada, scholars, artists, farmers, you name it. Granada
is uh is possibly the most civilized city in the world at that time, 1492, right? Some of the most advanced people
in the world were in Granada. Muslims and Jews, right? So they all there and then the Catholics they tell them
surrender and we will let you live in peace. So there were terms of capitulation
capitulation right. So the king capitulated without the knowledge of the people of Granada without telling the
Muslims. The king capitulates and signs on the terms and the terms are the Catholic monarchs will not impose
Christianity on the Muslims. They will not mess with Muslim religion and Muslim places of worship. They will and there
were other details that you can see the terms of capitulation online. Google the terms of capitulation 1492. You will see
the terms. Long story short, the king surrenders the city of Granada to the Catholics and
Muslims wake up one day the armies of the Christians walking into the city with bands and celebrations and they are
completely aruck. How did this happen? I thought we were fighting. We thought we were fighting. We We will We will fight
to death. And you know what? It would have been better for them to fight to death and not surrender to these people
because as soon as they came in, as soon as they came in, as soon as they took power, as soon as they occupied the city
of Granada and King Abu Abdullah left, he left with his entourage. He he took his treasure and his belongings and he
left from Morocco and he left the Muslims behind. hundreds of thousands of them,
close to a million Muslims, right? And now they fell in the hands of the Catholic monarchs. So what do the
kings uh the Catholic king and the queen do? Isabel and Ferdinand, long story short,
they cancel the capitulation terms because they now want to force the Muslims into Catholicism.
So they gave two options to the Muslims. You die or you baptize. You become a Catholic or you die. They did the same
thing with the Jewish people. Die or become Catholics. And many Jewish people died. Some Muslims fought to death. They
didn't want to surrender. When they saw this, they fought to death. They died shahil. There are many names in
histories, right? majority surrendered for the time being thinking of better days, expecting
[clears throat] an army to come and rescue them, expecting to rebel in the future, organize themselves in the
future. So they said, "Okay, we will baptize." So you have images of Muslims, men and women being rounded up, brought
to a fountain, being baptized by the Catholic priests. You go to this cathedral in Granada today where you
find Ferdinand and Isabella Buret. You see the statues Ferdinand and Isabella. Under the statue of Isabella, you see
this image of Muslim women in borcas, proper borcas. And I request from the editor to take this image from online
and put it up. Okay? where Muslim Muslim women are in the in the veils and they are being baptized by a priest who is
shaved in the middle of the head and then these hundreds of thousands of Muslims were handed over to this
institution institution called the Inquisition. So the archbishop who was doing all of
this was Cisneros. He forced all Muslims to baptize to become Catholics. And now the Muslims
are so hardpressed in the city of Granada particular particularly not necessarily in the countryside because
there there was some freedom there for the Muslims but in the city of Granada the Inquisition was working very hard to
ensure that the Muslims are actually Christians. So they would go to the Muslim houses,
they would knock the door and they would go in and they would try to see any signs of Muslim practice.
So they would ask the Muslims to hang a leg of pig, pig meat, hang it and bite on it. So
they would go inside a Muslim house, they would tell the Muslims, "Bite on pig meat." And they would have to bite.
And then they would ask them to curse Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam and they would have to do it. Okay? And if
they found anyone bathing on Friday, they would be handed over to Inquisition for torture.
If they saw lamps burning at fudger time in a Muslim house, they would raid the house.
This is the Inquisition. Okay? So this is how the Muslims now were facing. This is what they were facing. They couldn't
pray. So Muslims wrote a letter to the MUI of Wran which is current day Algeria asking him what do we do in this
situation. Okay. So about the inquisition and what happened to the Muslims. These Muslims who were left
behind and became Christian because they were not Christian. They only became Christian because they were forced. But
they were internally they were Muslims right? They were practicing the verse of the Quran that if you have to stay state
kufur and you have iman in your heart then there is no blame on you right so they were all majour they were all
forced they couldn't leave as well if they tried to leave they would be killed on the way they could not leave they
couldn't even go to the sea you may be thinking why didn't they leave why didn't they go to Morocco they could not
they were not allowed to leave right so one of the books I strongly recommend is called the Morisos by Henry Charles Lee.
Henry Charles Lee has authored this book titled The Moriscos. In this book, he documents what happened to the Muslims
after the Catholics took over. Okay. So, how is this relevant to us today? This is exactly what's happening today
in some of the countries in the world with Muslims. In India, in India, you see all those
extremist Hindu mobs surrounding an elderly Muslim. They're slapping him. They're beating him. And they're saying
to him, "Say JJ Shirram or you die. Say JJ Shirram or you die." We've seen the clips, right? Who has seen the clips
here? A big number of you have seen them, right? Then if Muslims want to have
beef, right? They get killed for that. These gaak teams right protectors of cows they come and they hunt them down
they are breaking Muslim mosques they are persecuting the Muslims right so just like the Catholics came in they
burnt 1 million books of the Muslims in a square in Granada central Granada they gathered all the Muslim books taps
hadith poetry and there are reports that The Catholic priests were stealing books from there. Anything to do with science
and geography or anything, any knowledge that they can actually benefit from, they took it. Anything, any Quran
manuscripts, hadith, fick, poetry, theology, any Islamic literature, fire, 1 million books, when we go to visit, we
actually take the tour, the participants to that square so that they can actually see it. Right?
So 1 million books were burnt. So they wanted to wipe out any trace of Islam
and Muslims. They even wanted to destroy the Alhamra Palace. But when Ferdinand and Isabella saw the palace, so we
cannot destroy this. In fact, Isabella was buried in uh Alhamra Palace before she was shifted to the cathedral. before
she was moved to the cathedral. Right? So now the situation of the Muslims for the next 100 years was Islam completely
banned. Arabic language completely not allowed. So the Muslims had to come up with another language called Alamyad.
Okay? So they invented a new language that they used to communicate with each other secretly. Right? They would pray
secretly. So when they asked the MUI of Wahran to give us a fatwa, what do we do in this situation? The mutyran he wrote
back saying that you pray by gestures by the gestures of your eyes. And if you want to make voodoo just rub yourselves
on the wall by an excuse and make the knee ofum rub yourself against the wall and that would be your tayyum. And if
they ask you to curse the prophetam do it to save your life. And there is no kufur upon you because you believe in
the prophet you love him. So this does not count. And if you have to bite off pig, bite enough to save your lives. So
again what we know from Islam like in a situation like this you can you know as long as you don't believe in that you
can do these certain things to save your life in a situation like that right? So it's called the fatwa of it's very
famous again you google it you'll find it the fatwa of o r a n. Check it out inshallah. So the minance minerets went
silent. Adan having been called for 700 years from this peninsula was completely wiped
out. Every single cathedral today in Andalucia
in south central Spain, every single cathedral if not all, I mean I would say the overwhelming majority of them were
once upon a time a masid. Every masid was demolished and a church was resurrected in its place and a bell was
put up there. So every minate went silent. One of the largest minates stands to this day next to the masjid of
civil which is now a cathedral. So when you look at the minate in civil which stands to this day from
the al- moat period you can only imagine what the masid would what the masid was like. Likewise,
the the Granada Cathedral, the cathedral in Granada, the grand cathedral of Granada was the Jam Masid was the
biggest masid in the kingdom of Granada. It was completely wiped out. It was demolished completely and the cathedral
were was resurrected in its place. So the minerids, the minerits calling the adan went silent.
There was no more Razan after that in Spain. But there's a good news.
Islam is being revived in Spain. Now after the absence of 500 years, the Azan is still being called again in Granada.
And this time, you know who's calling the Aan? Spanish convert Muslims. You go to Granada today, you see the
Alhhamra Palace on the mountain and right opposite Alhamra Palace on the other mountain, you see a white minate
and it's a masid and this masid was built by Spanish converts to Islam.
Okay, they most of them they belong to this Sufi movement called al- Murabun. So they are
like reviving the memory the legacy of al- morabun who came once. Okay. So most of these converts belong to this
uh group called Al- Murabetun and they accepted Islam through this group and they realized that we are Muslims and
there's no place to worship. So there is this neighborhood called Albene in Garnata. They bought the land. Okay.
So they didn't have the money to buy the land. So the first thing was to buy the land without announcing that they want
to build a masid there because the Spanish government will not allow them. So the Muslims are only allowed the
freedom to come back to Spain after General Franco died in the 70s because Spain was a fascist country under
General Franco. He died in the 1970s and then the Muslims were allowed to come back in and many Muslim converts were
there. Now they run into hundreds of thousands. Islam is being revived in Spain again. Alhamdulillah.
That blood of the Muslims that was shed shed on the land of Spain, the sound of Adan is coming back in Alandaloo. And
the evidence for that is uh that masid. So I know the time has gone on for too long. I've been speaking for nearly 2
hours now. But I hope this was worth it inshallah. And I hope it will help uh people uh learn about the history of Isl
Islamic Spain online as well. So I'm finishing uh in my final minutes inshallah of the talk. Right. So this
land was bought in the '90s. So what happens? They didn't have the money. So these Spanish converts they approached
Colonel Kaddafi of Libya. So Colonel Kaddafi he said I will buy the land for you but I cannot build the masid. So he
bought the land for them. Okay. And this is one of the good things he did. Right? So they bought the land. But now when
they went to the government to seek permission to build a masjid, right? The government refused flatly. No way. Islam
was wiped out from this country 500 years ago. You want to bring it back now? No way. Did they say that? Of
course they didn't say that. But this is the assumption, right? This is the assumption on our part because they were
they would not allow them to build the masid. So the Spanish converts, these white European Spanish converts, some of
them possibly have Arab blood in them, who knows? They threatened the Spanish government with action against uh them
with the European Court of Human Rights. They said we're going to go to the European Court of Human Rights and we're
going to get our right because we according to the law of this country have the right to worship. And then
eventually they granted the permission and then the ruler of Sharah Sheikh Sultan Al- Kasami granted the permission
not the permission the money the funds right and then he came in 2006 the masid was opened after the absence of 500
years and the adan is still being called from that minute I have seen it with my own eyes I have witnessed the adan so as
they say Never give up. Never give up. Even if it takes 500 years, okay? Allah subhana wa ta'ala will bring Islam back
to these lands. And it is coming. It is coming back. Okay? Whether the enemy likes it or not, it is happening. And
the adan will continue to go on from the minets and we cannot afford to lose even one minate, let alone hundreds of
thousands of minates. So let's pray that we are strong enough intellectually, educationally
in and and financially okay to continue defending our civilization, our values because we
believe we are the only hope for humanity. We are the only hope for humanity. There is no hope left.
Humanity has seen what is happening in the world. What the so-called rulers of the world are doing to the world.
Humanity see Islam is the only escape. Islam is the only solution left. And if you believe that, if you want that, then
protect your minates and the call from the miner.
