Overview: A Message of Hope and Restoration
This passionate sermon, delivered on Easter weekend as a church homecoming celebration, focuses on two transformative truths: God's restoring power through difficult seasons and Jesus Christ's finished work on the cross that provides complete forgiveness for all sin.
Part 1: God as Restorer
The speaker begins by testifying about his church's journey through two difficult years during the pandemic. Key declarations include:
- God is a keeper - He carries people through difficult seasons
- God is a restorer - He brings back what was lost:
- Joy and peace
- Relationships
- Health and wholeness
- Reputation
- God recovers - The enemy must "put it back with interest"
"If you're breathing, there's still hope. He's a restorer!"
Part 2: The Human Condition - We Are All Sinners
The sermon transitions to examine the apostle John, one of Jesus' first followers, to demonstrate that even religious people struggle with sin. For a deeper exploration of how Christ's sacrifice answers humanity's universal sin problem, see the summary on Understanding the Resurrection: Christian Faith’s Cornerstone.
John's Struggles (Like Ours):
- Hot-tempered - Jesus nicknamed him "Son of Thunder"
- Vengeful - Wanted to call fire from heaven to destroy unbelievers
- Ambitious - Secretly asked for a ruling position in Jesus' kingdom
- Self-righteous/insecure - Called himself "the disciple whom Jesus loved" as if uniquely favored
The Problem: Sin is in your bloodstream - it's the cause of every broken relationship, bad attitude, fear, sickness, and regret. You were born with it; children naturally lie and rebel without being taught.
The Consequences of Sin
- Eternal separation from God if you die without forgiveness
- Sin demands payment because it violates a holy God
- The enemy blinds humanity from turning to Christ
Part 3: What Jesus Taught About Life and Death
Jesus spoke clearly about:
| Warnings | Promises | |----------|----------| | Repent - the kingdom is at hand | Life more abundantly | | Story of Lazarus and the rich man | Peace I give you | | Prepared vs. unprepared virgins | Come to me - I will give you rest | | Faithful vs. unfaithful servants | I am the way, truth, and life | | Eternal separation | Seek first the kingdom |
Jesus offered purpose, meaning, calling, destiny, hope, and future to everyone who would follow Him.
Part 4: The Cross - "It Is Finished"
What John Witnessed:
- Jesus praying in Gethsemane - "Not my will, but yours"
- Jesus beaten within an inch of His life
- Jesus carrying His own cross to Golgotha
- Jesus crucified between two criminals
- Soldiers gambling for His clothes (fulfilling prophecy)
- Jesus' mother and John standing nearby
The Three Words That Changed History:
"Tetelestai" - "It is finished" (Greek: "Paid in full")
What This Means For You:
- Jesus exchanged your unrighteousness for His perfect righteousness
- His blood covers every sin - past, present, and future
- When God looks at believers, He sees the blood of Jesus, not your sin
- Your debt that you could never pay was paid in full
For the speaker: "For me over a toilet seat in a bathroom - paid in full"
Part 5: Personal Testimony and Transformation
The speaker shares his own testimony of salvation:
- Before: Drug dealer, in and out of prison, ruining families with crack cocaine, robbing people at gunpoint
- November 2003: Suicidal, cried out to God over a toilet seat
- After: God gave him life with purpose, meaning, and focus
- Now: A servant of God, saved by grace
This radical transformation reflects the abundant restoration discussed in More Than Enough: Finding God's Abundance in Your Life | Sermon Summary.
The Call to Respond
For Believers:
- Celebrate - Your debt is paid
- Live with purpose - So you can say at the end: "It is finished - I did what You sent me to do"
- Don't let circumstances steal your gratitude - Your salvation is reason enough to celebrate
For Those Who Haven't Believed:
- Today is your moment - Tomorrow is not promised
- Acknowledge your sin - You have broken God's laws
- Put your faith in Jesus - Repent and turn from sin
- Receive forgiveness - Your name can be written in the Lamb's Book of Life

"There is a blank space in heaven for your name - and no magic prayer puts you there. It is the acknowledgement of sin and humble confession that you are a sinner, asking the Lord to become your Savior."
Final Prayer
The sermon concludes with an altar call, where over 50 people raised their hands to receive Christ. The speaker prays:
- For spiritual revelation and understanding
- For the Holy Spirit to seal their salvation
- For freedom from condemnation
- For their names to be written in heaven
- For hunger for God's Word and community
This moment of surrender echoes the heart posture of Understanding Labor Pain: A Spiritual Perspective on Jabez's Prayer, where persistent faith leads to breakthrough.
Key Takeaway: Because of the cross, your past is forgiven, your present has purpose, and your future is secure in Christ. It is finished - paid in full. To explore how this grace attracts God's presence, read More Than Enough: Attracting God's Glory Through a Willing Heart.

thousands of dollars in outreach and hundreds of thousands of hours in service to our
city and when nobody saw a pandemic shook the world and
shut down all of our operation in the city of atlanta we have endured two difficult years of
[Music] too difficult yes today is homecoming
[Applause] [Music] [Applause]
so [Applause] [Music]
so [Music] [Applause]
[Music] today today is our homecoming too
the urban mission field where we belong [Applause] and before i jump into the proclamation
of god's word i just want to i want to call your attention to what god has done
so that you will be encouraged not only for our house but for your house the fact that
two years could go by and we make it back here what god has done for our church i want
to remind you what he will do for you that this is a reminder that god is a keeper
i'm talking to you for your house that this is a reminder that god knows how to carry people through difficult
seasons somebody holler at me like i said god knows how to
carry you through difficult seasons that when all hell breaks loose and when you're dealing with trials on
every side that the god we serve is able watch to carry you
[Applause] has anybody ever been carried through difficult seasons
right this day is a reminder watch that god knows how to bring us out
of difficult seasons and that he is a restorer i'm speaking to you for your home
that he's a restorer in the name of jesus he's a keeper
he's a carrier he's a waymaker he's a restorer in the name of jesus i'm
talking to somebody that's believing god for something i said he's a carrier
he's a wifemaker he's a restorer [Applause]
[Music] [Applause] [Music]
i said he's a restorer i said he's a restorer i said he's a restorer
you think you can't get it back but i said he's a restorer he'll give you back joy give you back
peace give you back the same mind he'll put a relationship back together i said he's a restorer in the name of jesus
if you're breathing there's still hope he's a restorer [Music]
he knows how to recover [Applause] [Music]
i feel the spirit of god for somebody he's a restorer [Music]
somebody's come through a bad divorce and you don't feel whole anymore but god is a restorer
[Applause] somebody got a doctor's report but he can put healing and wholeness
back in your body because he's a restorer [Applause]
he restores he responds who am i talking to somebody give him a wave of praise if
i'm talking to you [Music] hallelujah
he'll make the enemy put it back with interest that your ladder will be greater than
what you have put it back with interest [Music]
and in a real sense at the center of what the christian world celebrates this
weekend every easter is a monumental realities of
a great loss and an epic recovery so we have not gathered here today to only celebrate our return
back to the city no our new home base of operation though we've we've
we've gathered here together to celebrate and remember look at me the greatest
two events in human history [Music]
the necessary death [Music] of the lord jesus christ who called
himself the son of god and his supernatural controversial and scandalous
resurrection from the grave events
so significant in human history that our entire calendar of time is split around his life
into years bc before christ and years a d a new dominant latin for the year of our lord so important was
this historical figure jesus that all of our record keeping is surrounded around his life
the most important person in human history more than a prophet
more than a miracle worker and for the two plus billion people before this weekend is over tonight that
would have celebrated jesus as lord what we have put our faith in gives us hope
for now and for tomorrow but also what we celebrate is a message of warning
for those who are far away from god and an invitation to hope [Music]
and for these reasons before i jump into the proclamation of god's word i want to say to everybody
sitting in this room everybody watching online in cities across this country in some pockets around the world
that nobody in this room nobody watching me right now online nobody under the sound of my voice you're not here by
accident you're not tuned in right now by accident
that everyone under the sound of my voice you were providentially brought here by the spirit of god
for only one or two reasons for the believer to be reminded of what we celebrate
that our hearts can be pushed more and more into the joy of our lord and savior
jesus christ and for the one who has not yet believed that you may be awakened
while you still have time that's the only reason we're here for some of us to celebrate
and for some of us to be awakened so father in the name of jesus spirit of the living god
we feel your presence in this room it's not the temperature we feel it's the heat of your presence
walking these aisles up and down every row we feel you breathing down our neck we feel the wind of eternity growing
from the back of the room in this cataclysmic moment [Music]
spirit of the living god i pray you would arrest [Music]
the attention of every person under the sound of my voice i pray you would drive away every
demonic force and every distraction i pray you would use this
fallible vessel on the front line of warfare to awaken and rescue
that you may be glorified in this moment in jesus name we pray softly frank
i want to begin my message here on the majestic waters of the sea of galilee
where i took this picture in israel in december of 2018 it was on this majestic body of water
the ministry of the lord jesus christ was born it was on this majestic body of water
where jesus walked and performed the miracle it was on this majestic body of water
where the lord jesus christ began to call to himself his first followers a man named peter he told him to come
and a man named andrew he told him to come and a man named james he said come but among the first four followers of
jesus christ he met around the sea of galilee was a man named john a young man
a man who lived on the north shore with his family of the sea of galilee john
was born in a prosperous and financially well-off home
his father was a man named zebedee they had a lucrative fishing business had hired servants
a wealthy family but yet when john heard the call from jesus to come
he put down everything he was doing he walked away from a lucrative entrepreneurial venture
to follow jesus christ into the unknown of only these words follow me and i will make you a fisher of men
john in that moment taught us that there was something much greater in life than chasing a bag
john in that moment remind us something greater in life than just building businesses and monuments to yourself
he taught us that the pursuit of purpose and calling was more significant than wealth and fame and following and
he forsook all to follow the lord jesus christ and although john would go on
to write five books that are recorded for us in the new testament of the bible
the book that bears his name first second and third john and the book of revelation that tells us the end
because jesus did not hide what is coming for all humanity and although john gave us five books
that are preserved in the new testament look right at me john was no saint i know some of us worship him like he's
a saint no he was a man like you and me john he had issues like you and me
for one he was a hothead had a bad temper
anger management issues how do i know jesus gave him a nickname with his brother the sons of thunder
john was a hothead like the man with the microphone john was also vengeful he had rage in
his blood how do i know jesus was preaching the gospel in a city that rejected his message
and john said you know what lord says they don't want to listen to you let me call down fire from heaven
and burn all of them up let them all die and be separated from you and jesus said no john
patience and grace give them time while they're still breathing
he said you're of the wrong spirit john now you think
john had more issues than vengefulness john was self-righteous he was a man would watch unhealthy
ambitions like a lot of us right he comes to jesus secretly with his
brother says lord when you come into your kingdom don't let the other disciples know
i want to see on the right and put my brother on the left we want to rule with you when you come into your
kingdom but don't let the other disciples know and jesus said to john are you ready to
really sit in that seat do you even know what you're asking for [Applause]
are you ready to carry that weight john he was so ambitious not trying to be a servant just trying to rule
not trying to serve just trying to rule he was drunk with ambition but not only that
i think john was wrestling with some form of self-righteousness or maybe insecurities like you and me
how do i know because in the letter that bears his name he don't say disciple he tags
himself the disciple who jesus loved as if the lord jesus christ does not love
anyone else he doesn't call himself by name he simply says i am the disciple who jesus
loved the definitive article as if he didn't love the other 11.
either john is self-righteous or he has deep insecurities that he must give himself a title to make him feel
better about himself see john ain't no saint look right at me when you look closely at his life john
is wrestling with the same human problem that every person in this room is wrestling with
john was a sinner and like you and me
john was wrestling with what every single person in this room is wrestling with
your inherent flawed human nature
the scripture says it is called sin it is the very thing that's in your bloodstream
it's in your mind it's in your heart you don't believe that look right at me
sin is the cause of all of the pain and suffering of mankind
it's the reason for all your broken relationships every divorce
every friendship that has gone awry is the source between all of your bad attitudes
your rage your anger your aggression your foul mouth your dirty thoughts pornography
your lust your love affair with cardi b although she's not your wife
you're thumbing through social media being jealous of everybody else you want their marriage
you want their house you want their business you want their bank account so we got strong souls
strong thumbs and weak souls it's the source of all of our greed our materialism
our sicknesses our diseases every doctor's report every issue in your body
your fears your insecurities your hardships your trials look right at me everything behind you
that you've ever regretted every shame every failure every regret every mistake is all
because your sin nature your life if you look over your shoulder
testifies that you are a flawed human being and you didn't just learn it you were
born that way don't believe that don't nobody gotta teach your child to lie
ain't gonna teach a child to be rebellious or to talk back to a parent it's in them by nature they were born in
sin psalm 51 born and shaped in iniquity anybody's ever had a child talk back to you
because he's a little sinner little jaquan is a sinner little tuana is a sinner little timmy is
a sinner won't come off the table at the restaurant he's a sinner [Applause]
embarrass you in walmart he's a sinner don't obey you when you talk to him because sin is in his system
[Music] every problem every worry
every concern every issue in your life look at me every pain every suffering all of it
you look in the mirror don't like yourself all of it is because
softly frank our sin nature and the worst part about your sin nature it's not all of your manifestations and
the brokenness that we see in life the worst part of it is what it's going to do to us in the end
oh you ready to leave the room because you wanted to hear a message about the easter bunny or something sweet you
wanted me to come in and tell you that you're awesome and that you're wonderful
and prop you up on the pride that you already have in your heart no that's not happening here
[Music] now while there are messages of patty cake all around the country no you come
here to hear truth that can set you free the worst part of the fact that we're all wrestling with sin is that if
you die in your sin [Applause] the scriptures promises you of faith
you're not prepared to pay for eternal separation from god you said preacher i don't believe that
die and find out if the bible was true it would be too late on that day sin comes with a high cost a penalty why
because it flies in the face of a god who is completely holy that he wants a payment
for sin lied cheated
stole took a pen from your job that does not belong to you the lord demands a payment for that
and what the enemy is doing of your soul is blinding humanity from turning towards the lord jesus
christ that he can keep you numb in all your pursuits he don't care if you go to church as
long as you're far away from god i don't care how much religion you have as long as you're far away from god i
just want to carry as many of them with me as possible to damnation that's where we're headed yes yes
the whole human race look right at me the whole human race is damn nation bound
it's when john as he traveled with jesus for three and a half years
is why he heard him talking about things like watch he heard jesus say things like repent
turn for the kingdom of heaven is at hand he heard jesus give warnings about
eternal life and eternal damnation watch john
heard jesus tell real stories not parables of a man named lazarus and a rich man
who has no name both died one went to heaven the other one went to damnation jesus said in heaven lazarus was
comforted and in hell the rich man looked up and said i did not know this place was real
please go and tell my brothers not to come here and the lord said no they have the
prophets and if they don't hear the voice of the prophets they're going to end up in the
same place you are he heard jesus tell stories about virgins
some who were prepared for his return and others who were not he heard jesus tell stories about why
servants those who were doing his work and those who were not and he kept hearing jesus tell stories
and teachings about a world that was coming after this one where everybody would end up in one
of two places he kept hearing jesus give people warnings of being eternally lost
but you know what else john heard he heard jesus give messages of hope he heard jesus say things like
the thief which in his context is poor doctrine lies
comes to steal and kill and destroy that's what we've been
feeling from the thief from lies and bad doctrine and bad teachings and the influence of the adversary of your
soul he's come to kill steal and destroy and he heard jesus say things like but i
have come that you may have life
and have that life more abundantly he heard jesus say things like my peace i give you
he heard jesus say things like come unto me all of you who are weary and tired and i will give you rest
he heard jesus say things like i am the way the truth and the life
no man comes to god the father but through me not through muhammad
not through confucius not through buddha the gospel was offensive he says no man gets to god but
through me i am the only way to salvation he said so how could you say something like that
no jesus said that not through good works not through being moral not through
church attendance through faith in me and me only he heard jesus say things like
seek first the kingdom and his righteousness and in everything you need i will just
give unto you he heard jesus talking about rewards in this life and the next for
following him and john kept hearing jesus preach messages of hope
and messages of life and messages of change he see jesus keep inviting people into a
life they never knew existed for them a better life than the one they have right now
he heard jesus invite people into purpose into deeper calling
he heard jesus offering people anointings and giftings and positions in the kingdom
he heard jesus give people like you and i a destiny a hope and a future
he heard jesus say things like i am the good shepherd i lay down my life for my sheep
he heard jesus say things like i am the bread of life those who feast on me they would they
will always be satisfied he heard jesus say things like my words they give life and strength
he heard jesus keep offering people like you and me a life of purpose
a life of meaning a calling a destiny a hope and a future but you know what else jesus john heard
and saw at the end of his life john saw jesus walk into a garden called
gethsemane he heard him praying that lord this thing that you want me to
do if there's any other way to save this broken humanity please give me another route
he heard jesus say lord but not my will but your will be done if if there's no other way i would do it the way you have
sent me to do it you know what else john saw and heard he saw and heard on the night
that jesus was praying he saw him being captured and brought into a room to be beaten within an inch of his life
every scar the mutilation of his flesh the shedding of his blood
he saw jesus take all those lashes every single one for every mistake that you made
and every sin that you committed you know what else he saw in her jesus do carry a wooden cross
through the streets of jerusalem and on his back he was carrying every
mistake you made every sin you committed every failure every shame
he watched jesus carry all of that not just the wood but yours your your sin he was carrying
your mistakes he was carrying your failures he was carrying he saw jesus carrying all of that
you know you know what else john saw he saw he saw jesus executed
you put them there your mistakes put them there your sins your rebellion yours and mines
he saw jesus nailed to a cross for you and for me nailed to a cross for your sins and from
mine nailed to a cross for your past and for mine and you know what john wrote about this
moment let me read you what john wrote about this moment
he wrote in john chapter 19 verse 16. so they took jesus and they went out
bearing his own cross to the place called the place of the skull which is in aramaic called
golgotha there they crucified him and we have two others one on either
side and jesus between them pilate also wrote an inscription and put it on the cross that read jesus of
nazareth the king of the jews many of the jews read this inscription for the place where jesus was crucified
was near the city and it was written in aramaic and in latin and in greek
so the chief priests of the jews said to pilate do not write
the king of the jews but rather right this man said i am king of the jews pilate answered what i have written i
have written verse 23 so when the soldiers had crucified jesus
john said they took his garments because he was there as an eyewitness this is what he saw and what he told us and they
divided them into four parts one part for each soldier also has tunic but the tunic was seamless woven into
one piece from top to bottom so they said to one another let us not tear it but cast our lots let us gamble
for who should get his jacket this was to fulfill the scripture that says they divided my garments among them
and for my clothing they cast lots so the soldiers did these things now watch
but standing by the cross of jesus where his mother and his mother sister
mary the wife of clopas said mary magdalene and when jesus saw his mother and the
disciple whom he loved standing nearby watching jesus being nailed to the cross
he said to his mother woman behold your son and he said to the disciple behold your
mother and from that hour on the disciple took him to his own home
and after this jesus knowing that all was now finished he said to fulfill the scriptures i
thirst a jar full of sour wine stood there so they put it on a sponge
of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and they held it to his mouth in the last verse
and when jesus had received the sour wine he shouted from the cross
he shouted from the cross these three words that change humanity forever
it is finished and with that he bowed his head and he gave up his spirit
jesus shouted from the cross these three words i'm done it
is finished one greek word tetelestai which means paid in full
that he had come he had lived 33 years a perfect life [Music]
and nailed to the cross he exchanged on the cross your unrighteousness for his perfect
righteousness that from the cross he imparted to you the covering of his blood
so that when god the father looks at humanity for those who have put our faith in him
he no longer sees the sin that demands hell and damnation and payment he sees the blood of jesus
he sees my sin debt and my account paid in full he sees every mistake erased
every sin erased every failure every shortcoming erased he sees the credit of jesus account
applied to my sinful account so that when the lord looks at me he does not see the sin i made last
night but when the father looks at me he sees me through the blood of the savior
that my debt that i could not pay the sin that i could not pay
on the cross jesus said for this one paid in full and for that brother
paid in full and for this sister paid in full and for me over a toilet
seat in a bathroom paid in full and for many of us remember that day when the holy spirit snatched you from
the fires of hell and said this one right here no paid in full and that one right there no no no no
paid in full because what you deserve is how we don't deserve grace
we don't deserve mercy what all humans deserve for sin is damnation and hell and separation from god that is what you
deserve [Music] but because of the cross
because of 33 years of a perfect life because of jesus fulfilling and satisfying the wrath of god
when the lord looks at you when he looks at philip although i'm still struggling with insecurities and
stuff on the inside you beat your own self up but when the father looks at you he sees my son my
daughter you keep talking to me about things i forgave at the cross
your sin debt was paid in full and because john saw a resurrected jesus on this sunday morning
for those of us who are in christ we have much to celebrate for i want to rob us american christians of
feeling like everything has to be perfect for us to be thankful
there's one passage i keep coming back to all the time that john wrote in the letter called revelation
and revelation chapter 20 he said those names not found written in the lamb's book of life
they're gonna be tossed into the lake that burns with fire [Music]
and every time i read that i cry because i know that my name is there and because of what jesus has done for
me in november 2003 suicidal and crying out to god over a toilet seat that god has given me a life of purpose
a life of meaning a life of focus he took a former drug dealer
in and out of prison ruining families with crack cocaine robbing people at gunpoint
and snatched him from the fires of hell over a toilet seat rearranged his whole life with purpose
[Applause] and set him on a path to live in this life with purpose
and to receive rewards in heaven and because of that because it is finished man i have much to celebrate this
morning i ain't thinking about where i'm gonna eat after this [Music]
i ain't thinking about what restaurant i got reservations at no i'm gonna pause longer
i'm gonna pause long enough to be thankful [Music]
now because of the cross me philip anthony mitchell a former blasphemer
is now a servant of the most god-heart [Music] because it is finished
[Music] i have hope in this life [Music]
i have hope in the life to come [Music] so for the believers in this room we
have something to celebrate [Applause] [Music]
i said jesus said it is finished you have something to celebrate [Music]
[Applause] it is finished means it's a declaration that i did what i
came here to do i accomplished my mission and my purpose
softly frank [Music] i want you to be able to say the same
thing when your day comes you can look up to heaven with confidence that god
i labored [Applause] i lost i recovered
i sacrificed i gained i prayed and didn't see the answer to
every prayer some things i didn't understand but you know what god i never quit
and even when i walked away from you you came and you got me back [Applause]
[Music] a day is coming when i want to say to my lord
it is finished i did what you sent me here
to do [Music] every head bowed in every eye closed
there are men and women sitting in this room for you it is not finished i'm gonna tell you the truth because i
love you even though i don't know you you are and i am
a sinner [Music] you have broken
the laws of a holy god you have lied you have cheated and stole
you have slept with people who was not your spouse you have had evil thoughts and bad attitudes anger and rage
you have ruined relationships and been thirsty for finances you have done everything possible
to receive the wrath of god that's what's coming for you if you die in your sin
[Music] see i don't care about that preacher tomorrow's not promised to you
you have no guarantees you're going to make it home from this gathering you could end up in an accident on your
way home and be hurled into eternity and wake up and realize you lost the last chance you had
[Music] mercy god you didn't come here for three points in
a poem you came here to hear the truth you came here to be set free
you came here to be forgiven you came here to walk out of this room a brand new man a brand new woman a brand
new husband a brand new wife you came to walk out this room with a life of purpose and meaning and destiny
and calling there is a blank space in heaven for your name
and no magic prayer is going to put you there [Music]
it is the acknowledgement of sin and the humble confession that i am a sinner
according to romans chapter 10 and asking the lord to become your savior you already know who i'm talking to
because you feel it in your in your stomach you feel my voice reverberating in your
soul you're watching me right now in the chat you're shedding tears you can pull over on the side of the road i'm talking
to you the spirit of god is moving you to himself right now he wants to be your
father your lord your savior your provider for me this happened in 2003 over a
toilet seat it changed my life forever for you would happen right here in the auditorium right there in the chat
i'm talking to you here is the gospel but god not wanting you to perish when
you die sent the lord jesus christ to pay your sin debt in full
[Music] and he said if anyone would just put their faith in jesus repent and turn
from their sin their names will be recorded in heaven he'll put a piece of himself in your
heart and you can walk out of here a brand new man a brand new woman who am
i talking i'm talking to you not the person next to you i'm talking to you we did this whole thing for you
no sermon notes for you every song for you everything we set up in the lobby was
for you every flag was for you all of this was for you this is your moment right here
[Music] [Applause] i'm gonna count to three
when i count to three if i'm talking to you i want to see who i'm about to pray for i see tears falling all over this
room i'mma count to three i want you to throw your hand up and say preacher pray for me one god is calling you
two you're not prepared to pay the price for your own sin three purpose awaits you throw your hand
up and leave it up jesus i see that hand don't leave it up
i see that hand two i see that hand three i see that hand four five six i see that hand seven eight i see
that hand nine ten leave it up eleven twelve i see that hand thirteen fourteen fifteen sixteen i see that hand
seventeen eighteen 19 20. i see that here 21 22 23 24 25 26. i see that here 27 28 29 30 31 32 i see that head 33 i
see that here my sister 34 35 36 37 38 39 40. i see that hand 41 42 43 i see that here at 44
45 46. i see that here 47. i see that 48 i see that hit 49 i

When Jesus declared 'It is finished' (Greek: 'Tetelestai'), He meant that the debt for all sin was paid in full. This was a legal term used when a debt was completely satisfied. Through His sacrifice, Jesus exchanged our unrighteousness for His perfect righteousness, meaning every sin—past, present, and future—is covered by His blood, and believers are seen as forgiven by God.
The sermon emphasizes that no one is beyond God's restoration. It uses the speaker’s own testimony of transforming from a drug dealer to a servant of God as an example. The key is to acknowledge your sin, repent (turn from it), and put your faith in Jesus as your Savior. As the speaker states, 'If you're breathing, there's still hope.' Your past does not disqualify you because the cross paid for every sin.
The sermon highlights that even John, one of Jesus’ closest disciples, struggled with sin, showing that no one is exempt. He is described as hot-tempered (called 'Son of Thunder'), vengeful (wanted to destroy unbelievers), ambitious (asked for a ruling position), and insecure (called himself 'the disciple whom Jesus loved'). This demonstrates that sin is inherent from birth, affecting attitudes like pride and fear, and is the root of broken relationships.
God is presented as both a 'keeper' who carries people through hard times and a 'restorer' who brings back joy, peace, relationships, health, and reputation. The speaker declares that God 'recovers' what was lost, causing the enemy to 'put it back with interest.' The Easter homecoming theme emphasizes that restoration is possible for anyone still breathing, regardless of their circumstances.
The speaker references the historical details John witnessed: Jesus praying 'not my will, but yours,' being beaten severely, carrying His cross, and being crucified between criminals. The selling of Jesus’ clothes fulfilled prophecy. The climactic point is Jesus’ final words, 'It is finished,' which is interpreted as a legal receipt. The speaker personalizes this by recounting his own moment of salvation 'over a toilet seat in a bathroom,' where he felt this debt was paid for him.
The sermon urges non-believers to respond immediately because 'tomorrow is not promised.' The steps are: acknowledge your sin against God’s laws, put your trust in Jesus, repent (turn from sin), and ask Him to become your Savior. It stresses that no special prayer works—only humble confession of sin. The goal is to have your name written in the Lamb’s Book of Life, ensuring salvation.
It reminds believers that because their 'debt is paid,' they should celebrate and live with purpose. The speaker encourages them not to let circumstances steal their gratitude, stating, 'Your salvation is reason enough to celebrate.' The concept of 'Tetelestai' offers security that God’s work is complete, so believers can focus on finishing the work God assigned them, saying at the end, 'It is finished—I did what You sent me to do.'
